My guess is because the pressure to live up to Definitely maybe etc. is gone.. i think noel and the gang always were trying to mimic that album as a watermark... the turning which is great, i think is them trying to sound like oasis ultimately...
now that the Oasis pressure is lifted. they can make an album anyway they like.. i actually prefer Oasis's ballads. dont go away was a breath of relief after the sonic assault of be here now.. so im pleased with this album!! ( havent heard the whole thing yet, saving about half for release date) but ive been waiting in a way for them to do an album like this...
and it sounds so much " less dark" than the last 4 oasis albums. which seem really moody and dark production in comparison!

When you think about it Noel was the man for the 'rockers' -- Only Noel can write a tune like TSOTL.

Funny you should say that because after getting a good helping of Beady Eye this morning I cranked up TSOTL and it sounded REALLY GOOD. It's very infectious...something I think the new songs are lacking. The guys are clearly more comfortable with softer songs.

When ever have BDI said they're a rock band? Early Oasis yes. BDI no.

I have been a bit confused about this.
Whenever Liam talks he's all about rock and energy dissing the number of ballads on later Oasis albums. And Oasis being pop compared to BDI...
Most of DGSS sounds like bubbles-gum pop compared to DOYS...even if you don't like DOYS you have to admit that!
He is hardly selling the album misrepresenting it that way. Those that like what his is describing are going to going to go look @ it and be like..."WTF is this? It's more than half ballads! I was looking for a rocking album that's HAVING IT!"
And those that like the soft side of rock are going to dismiss it from their minds because it doesn't sound like something they like!
If I had only hear FLW, BTL, TR, and HADN'T got those previews and just listened to Liam talk...I would have been shocked about the makeup of the album! Way poppier than he portrays it.

dont worry. the live shows should be comical. Liam wont be able to hold back when singing these ballads. expect hands behind the back full on rockstar mode.
Liam is a punk rocker in his mind but sings ballads round the house and on the album. His voice sounds good actually singing, and not yelling and sounding like Kermit.

Yeah, that shows again that Liam is not to be taken seriously. He also said DGSS is as good as DM and that BDI will be bigger than Oasis...

Yeah, there are ballads on this, but still I think this album is a lot moe rocky then the DOYS for example. It's because of Liam's voice I think. Almost all the ballads on Oasis records were sung by Noel. And BDI will ofcourse never be bigger then Oasis, but what do you want him to say 'I'm in a new band, but it's not as good as my previous band'. Hat off for the lads for doing what they want to do, putting all their energy in it, and the effort's paying off: DGSS is a very, very good album! You can not compare it to DM or MG yet, cause we've only heard it yesterday. And it probably wont be as big as DM in 10 years, because Oasis was there at the right place, at the right time. It's a different story with Beady Eye.

Yeah, I agree the record is more pop thank rock, but in the end, if they feel more comfortable writing ballads and have in their sleeves gems such as the ones they gave us, I don't mind. Plus, they still add a few rockers to spice it up and not make it too mellow.
I don't complain about the lack of rockers seeing that the slow songs are in general much, much better than the rockers.

I don't get it. There are 6 "rockers" on the album....? And the less rockier tracks will be more rockier live. Listen to the Millionaire rehearsal clip.

Even if I give you that there are 6 rockers on the album...that means there are 7 ballady tunes to 6 rockers...and only 2 of those 6 rockers actually sound anything approach the ferocity of BIU, TSOTL, and TT. (FLW and the atrocious SOTEOTN) Live is besides the point. We are talking about the album.

The only tune that I'd truely classify as soft is IOT on DOYS...more than half of this album is on the soft side... The only Oasis album that this is rockier than is DBTT IMO. Not saying it's worse off for it...but let us be realistic!

Only Andy Bell is really capable of writing a good rocker - Turn Up The Sun and Four Letter Word show that. Liam and Gem on the other hand are, quite frankly, abysmal at trying to write rockers. The day Beady Eye release a full album full of rockers, it's going to be awful. I'm so glad that it's more of a charming pop record rather than a rock record.

Gem's finest song to date.

The only thing we'll miss with BDI and Solo-Noel "replacing" Oasis is the classic Oasis first single. The Liam-sung Noel-written rocker (THT, LYLA, TSOTL). But at least we've got 4LW on the new album, which does this job very good.

It's not all over the internet like Dig Out Your Soul which is making thins a bit easier.

^ It was played on a Spanish radio station. It's crap quality recorded through at least one wall/door, muffled to almost unrecognizability. And there are people talking all over it.
Frankly don't bother.

By the by, I class 5 out of the 13 songs on the album as 'rockers' - there isn't exactly a shortage. I mean, it's no Coldplay album.
Four Letter Word Beatles And Stones Wind Up Dream Bring The Light Standing On The Edge Of The Noise Three Ring Circus
6 in fact! That I class as rockers/up-tempo songs

Plus Millionaire, which while it isn't exactly a "rocker", is still an up-tempo song

And only Liam can sing a tune like that Noel couldn't sing it as convincingly as Liam...but he could get a guest vocalist that has a better voice for tunes like that. Liam can't get a guest songwriter.

I'd add millionaire as a non-ballad as well. But that leaves almost half the album to be ballads. 6 ballads/7 up-tempo tunes to me means that it's still a pretty mellow record IMO I want to stress that I don't think there is anything wrong with that...just doesn't align with Liam's promo.
