It's a great, rocking good time of an album! A bit soft at times and the words aren't the greatest, but the melody and songs are brilliant otherwise and I believe it's honestly and truly the first Gallagher related record to match up or even surpass Definitely Maybe or (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. I was that surprised and overjoyed by the record.
But of course, the last song threw me for a loop. The Morning Son, written By Liam Gallagher and supposedly about Noel and the Oasis breakup, has an ending just A LITTLE to close to The La's and Lee Maver's "Looking Glass".
The vocals are VERY Lee, especially on his extension of "Maaaaaaaaaaaahning". The end of the song is very much like the end of Looking Glass, with drum speeding up and all the elements of the song crashing together in and out of each other,
So we have a song, written by Liam and the singing sounds like Lee nearly. We have Chris, the exact same drummer who played both The Morning Son and Looking Glass. And last but not least, we have the same producer Steve Lillywhite who finalized both The La's debut and Beady Eye's debut.
I find it a shame that such a good song is going to get slated by plagiarism accusations, but even I HAD to laugh when I noticed how similar they were. I don't know who to blame, Liam Chris or Steve! Just compare, and no matter what you think just enjoy two beautiful songs by two amazing musicians!

It IS a top song I love both tremendously, but I gotta say Looking Glass is better IMO. The lyrics, message, and the "re-journey through the album" (a repeat of brief clips of all the albums songs played whilst the drums, guitars, and vocals all go crazy) is BRILLIANT. No one else I've seen has done such a thing! But I'm a huuuuuge La's fan and somewhat idolize (I'm blinded ) Lee Mavers just as much, maybe even more so than Noel Gallagher as a songwriter. Noel once said Oasis were "out to finish what The La's started" and it appears Liam is still carrying this true to heart. The spirit, feel, and groove of the album is VERY La's, but in spirit and soul, and ambition more so than direct rip offs or copycatting. I LOVE the album, more so than DOYS, HC, and it ties with DBTT and all the other records for me. I don't mind the similarities, nor do I even care, because they are both brilliant and amazing songs. I just had to point it out. If anything it's a tribute or a nod towards Lee, not a plagiarism. So many bands end their albums in such a way, with a big rockin' finale and crash landing. Lee Mavers was not the first to do it, Liam Gallagher won't be the last, but I just know the critics and haters will find this as SOMETHING to throw at Liam and the gang. And I say let them! Liam and the fans truly know what the music means, and we all love it and will play it endlessly no matter what. Bring it on, Beady Eye, keep the music and faith soaring! Liam truly is the "last of a dying breed".

My favorite song in the album so far, and probably to become my favorite Liam-penned song. It's just beautiful, and when the drums kick in, I started to feel almost euphoric the first time I listened to it. It surprised me, because although there were many who loved the 30-second preview, I thought it was only ok.
Great song. I love it, really, really love it.

Someone better give Lillywhite a fuckin award for this song. Liam's voice is absolute butter, it just melts with the acoustic guitar. Those seagulls floating about the track just blow me away, sheer genius. The effects used to make Liam's voice echo, is what does it for it for me. At first listen, it was an instant HIT. My personal fave from this album. Another minor comparison in GREATNESS is Steve's work on Morrissey's "Vauxhall and I", in the way Looking Glass closes with the heavy drumming speeding up to close the album, Morrissey's "Speedway" does the same, with also very personal lyrics added as does TMS. I suspect that Lillywhite might have also been able to help Liam write this gem in terms of "getting in" and looking for the lyrics within himself. I guess with the tumultuous sibling rivalry Liam and Noel have always had, the whole LOVE HATE, double act, which is no longer a double act, but reality in their own personal lives being played out before our very eyes is what pulls on our heart strings and makes this song the epic brotherly-love LOVE song one of them had to write about eachother and Liam, I guess being the Spartan that he is chose to pass the olive branch first. My hats off to you Liam. If the Chief can't shed a tear to this one I don't know what.
PS. When played live my fuckin lighter will be firing at crack level high!

When it starts going nuts and explodes and you hear the Indian sounding music. Same here. This is amazing. The full song is great and the best song I've heart since a long long time but this part is the killer. I could cry because it's so beautiful. Definitely the best part of the album for me too. I'm still speechless

Liam might have always been regarded as the "daft" one all these years but this one's up there with some Oasis HEAVY HITTERS...stuff off DM/WTSMG... He is indeed simple but this i's simplicity at its honest self.

That slide guitar (?) at 2.35 after the drums kick in is one of the best moments in this album. Truly monumental.

"He's even in my Rock N' Roll"
You have to be heartless if you're an Oasis fan not moved by that line.

Amazing song, Liam really liked his vocal effects on Soldier On and carried it to this song.

Best song on the album, the one I was most looking forward to hearing.
If DOYS could have not had TBWTL, TNOR and SO, and have I Wanna Live A Dream (In My Record Machine) followed by The Morning Son, it would be worthy of rivaling WTSMG.
Back to the song though, it's the closest we've ever got to another Champagne Supernova (loving the sea/waves sound at the start hah), something which Oasis were always lacking.
10/10 for this song.

I'm sure he must be moved by this.. His litlle brother writing this absolutely amazing song, straight from the heart..

I'm sure he must be moved by this.. His litlle brother writing this absolutely amazing song, straight from the heart.. Indeed. Liam seems to really wear his heart on his sleeve, so to speak. There seems to be a very genuine, organic emotion in his songs. On the other hand, Noel has never been one to be particularly direct in his songs, imo. They're typically a "one size fits all". Even when he does write them about specific people (Sunday Morning Call, Where Did It All Go Wrong?) they seem very detached from the situation. If you take "Don't Go Away", which was supposedly written about Peggy and a cancer scare, it doesn't really feel like a song one would write about their mother's mortality. With that siad, the two tracks where I think he did engage very directly would be Talk Tonight and Idler's Dream.

Of course it's a brilliant song, one of the best from the album, there's no doubt about that. Even though I must mention that it are the production and maybe Chris' drumming, and the strings that take this song to another level.
If it just were Liam's words and melodies, it would've been a nothing but an improved "soldier on". But when I heard the strings, I thought: this is brilliant. I doubt if Liam wrote the string sections himself. This along with the beautiful production and especially the drums at the end make this song arguably the best closer since CS. (Yes, I think this song is better than Roll It Over, and maybe even better than LTBL (which was once one of my favorite Oasis songs))

I originally hated the preview - sounded too much like English Rose, and on first listen I rated the song as an 8/10, but that needs to be seriously bumped up. Yet another highlight of a truly fantastic second half to this album.
