Got into a few this year...
The Moons - ...Paul Wellers keys player (Andy Crofts) is their frontman, if you like indie with a more Beatles influenced sound then you'll love them.
The On Offs - ...Andy Crofts old band were fuckin great, even though they only managed to get 2 singles out before splitting up (both of which are quite punky n sound like The Jam), but I really REALLY digged the footage of them rehearsing at home on youtube, definitely a band that had massive potential.
22-20s - ...Not necessarily only just got into the band, was a massive fan of them a few years back after they released their CLASSIC debut album, but they split soon after. Was really pleasantly surprised to find out earlier this year that they had not only re-formed but had even released a 2nd album. Whilst it might not be better than their first album it still definitely has its moments and its great to see such a class band back together.
Little Barrie - ...Well, first heard them a few years back after discovering a mates son was their drummer, but it was this year that I went back and really started gettin into them. If you like a bit of Soul/Blues/Funk then you'll love these guys, 1st class band!

I agree with you, Leezy. The Moons are great. Andy Crofts is a very talented musician. Nice avatar btw.
and TheImportance, I've just seen Warpaint at London Calling last month. Their live was very impressive, quite dark and heavy. and I can't believe that you didn't get into The National until this year. Didn't you like "Boxer" then? It was the album which got me into them 3 years ago and my best album of that year. I still love it as much as I love High Violet.

Heard they reformed but nothing since then Their 2nd albums called 'Shake/Shiver/Moan', came out May/June this year, even I didn't hear nothing n find out about it until about September. There's some really good songs on it, still in a very similar flavor of their first album, but for me the only problem with it is the production. It just doesn't sound quite as good as their first, still a pretty good album though. Really diggin this one a lot at the mo...

Got bang into The Besnard Lakes this year. Theyre from canada and make epic psychedelia with BeachBoys harmonies. If you want a taster visit their myspace and try 'Albatross'.
Just waiting for them to come over and do some dates...

^^Another great pick! I just listened to their latest album thanks to music critic Greg Kott's suggestion and it's really some kind of good! I agree with you, Leezy. The Moons are great. They're an exceptionally tight band, the grooves they locked into were incredible. I saw them at a dingy, little bar and and it was a fantastic setting for them. And I did like Boxer, but when I say I got into those bands this year I mean I really got into them. As in, obsession for some cases (in particular: Spoon, The National, and Beach House). ;D

Transference was a great effort and i sort of rediscovered them through that i sort of forgot the genius of their other albums. I mean every album they've made is great. Love them to death they are easily in my top 10 favorite bands now. The National just keep getting better. High Violet is their best in my opinion. Boxer is superb but High Violet is probably my album of the year. I have one more to add to my list. The Walkmen I just got a couple albums by them. I'm liking what I'm hearing so far.

The Walkmen are fantastic. Their latest, Lisbon, is very underrated but very good.

My first discovery of 2011:
Rachel Sermanni Actually a good friend of mine has recommended her last year as she's seen her gig. I just listened to her radio session a few days ago and she's brilliant.

As far as my 2010 discoveries go, in no particular order: The Brothers Movement The Moons Goldhawks Gold Future Joy Machine The Detroit Social Club The Real People Sweet Jane (debut album of the year) Sound Of Guns The Chakras The Sky Parade The See See Graffiti6 Exit Calm White Noise Sound The Chemistry Set Officer Kicks The Courteeners (really enjoyed their 2nd album much more than the first) Children Collide The Law White Belt Yellow Tag Sad Day For Puppets The Aftermath Kassidy (sounds like members of Led Zeppelin and The Kings Of Leon united at a campfire and started jamming - "Take Another Ride" is pretty terrific) The Kicks Spotlight Kid The Domino State The Last Tycoons The Cheek Modern Faces The Aeroplanes The Greencoats Baby Woodrose The Tamborines The Violet May Tame Impala The Laurels The Kissaway Trail Elephant Stone The Demon Parade plus loads of stuff from 2009 and beyond,....over all, a good year for music.

^ Good to know that people still dicovered The Law. I've been listening to them since their demo days. They're a great band. Pity that it took them ages to release the first album.
I've seen Sad Days For Puppets at London Calling 2 years ago and I found them quite dull.
Kassidy are fantastic. A good friend of mine is a big fan of them and she just sent me their brand new song "Stray Cats". Brilliant tune.

I got into The law when "Milk & Honey" was first released as a digital single back in 2007. I actually liked that version better than the one that eventually was re-recorded for the album. Sad Day For Puppets' 2nd album is much more polished than their debut. Maybe you'll find it in your heart to give them another chance? LOL
