just remember, people. the usa gave us such luminaries as... elvis, johnny cash, ray charles, little richard, b.b. king, bob dylan, the doors, the beach boys, james brown, creedence clearwater revival, iggy pop/the stooges, stevie wonder, michael jackson, sinatra, zappa, marvin gaye, the eagles, the supremes, jimi hendrix, the temptations, smokey robinson, bruce springsteen, tom petty, sly & the family stone, simon & garfunkel, the ramones and lou reed/velvet underground.
and that's just from the top of my head.
a list of british greats can just as easily be assembled, there's no denying that. however, you can't say american music is shit. (well, you can. nobody's stopping you, but it'd just be fucking stupid.)

And on the indie scene America gave us the Pixies, the Strokes, Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, R.E.M, Dinosaur Jr., Pavement, Spoon, Sun Kil Moon, Ted Leo, Wilco, Weezer, Bult to Spill, Flaming Lips, Interpol, Modest Mouse, The Replacements.... Not saying the UK isn't great, but saying America's music is shit is just ignorant and narrow-minded

I'd also like to show some love for Creedence Clearwater Revival, one of my absolute favorite bands of the sixties.

by the way, before we hijack this thread completely, i'm not saying if one country's better than the other musically. the uk's produced some of the greatest music of the modern era. we're just saying, well... so has the good ol' usa. but if there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that we're both better than canada. Patti Smith = godlike. An incredible woman. I adore Patti. I'd also like to show some love for Creedence Clearwater Revival, one of my absolute favorite bands of the sixties. +k to you both. (and joey, check out my first list... ccr's there! )

i kid, johan. i will always have love for canada for joni mitchell, neil young and the band alone. in all fairness, canada did unleash justin bieber, nickelback, avril lavigne, celine dion and bryan adams upon the world.

All countries have their shitty music, but I wouldn't put Bryan Adams in the same sentence as Nickleback. Personally I like Bryan Adams, how can you knock Summer of 69 and some of his older classics. Nickleback is the most generic rock you could find out there. Celine dion is for a different crowd. Justin Bieber well we could make fun of him until the cows come home, and then Avril Lavigne is for a different crowd as well.
Forgot to mention a few other bands the payolas, Pursuit of happiness, and barenaked ladies and Glass tiger, and 80's band Platinum Blonde. Oh yeah Alanis Morissette, and TAYLOR HAWKINS FROM FOO FIGHTERS IS CANADIAN HOW ABOUT THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
