I have always wondered why they never mentioned AC/DC during their constant rants about their rock idols like the Beatles, the Stones, The Who, etc.
I think in terms of music and (rock 'n' roll) attitude, AC/DC and Oasis are pretty similar bands, especially from the Bon Scott era AC/DC. Both bands rely on guitar riff-driven music with a hard edge and catchy melodies. No cheesy crap, just straight rock and roll music.

highly doubt it. ACDC is one of those bands that no matter if you buy an album of theirs from the 80's or buy one from the present, it's the same fucking shit. very one dimensional.

No disrespect to you or ACDC but I'd be very, very surprised if they had anything positive about them.

It just don't get why they're not official fans. We know they are fans of hard rock acts like The Who and Led Zeppelin. Also, AC/DC is basically a hard-edged blues-rock band. Noel likes bluesy rock too, especially Jimi Hendix and Fleetwood Mac.

I don'y understand why its so confusing that some who is in a roc n roll band wouldn't like AC/DC. Like someone said they're pretty one dimensional.

The thing about AC/DC is that it's too much of a cult band, and the songs aren't really that good... There is no doubt that they have some classics, and they are an iconic band, but I personally think it's more about the spectacle (dolls, trains, dancers, jumping around on stage) than the actual music. And I don't think oasis really have that, you know...

i remember Noel saying that I Can See a Liar was something like AC/DC would make. And to be honest Oasis/Noel don't really write riffs in the same way that AC/DC do (say like You Shook me or Thunderstruck haha). I could maybe see them liking an odd song here and there but AC/DC really isn't classic in the same way Led Zeppelin and Hendrix are I don't care how many albums Back In Black sold.

Being top Oz lads, AC/DC are so revered here in Australia (there is even a street named after them in Melbourne where I live- AC/DC Lane). If you were to even mention them in the same breath as Oasis, you'd basically be lynched. There's a cetain 'over 40s set' in this country that simply won't hear a negative word spoken about AC/DC. But the reality is, they actually HAVE been doing what Oasis have inaccurately been accused of doing for years- releasing exactly the same kind of song! And people still love them.
The world jumped on board after the golden years of AC/DC IMO- the seventies Bon era is the best. The Jailbreak and Let There Be Rock video clips are pure gold. Thereafter, it's all a bit of a yawn. The latest album was horrible with that Runaway Train track- beyond cliche. They look fucking ancient now too.
We have a rock station called Triple M here which, from what I can gather, is like X-FM in England, the main point of difference being that Triple M worship AC/DC to the extent that X-FM does Oasis. Triple M, however, loathe the Gallaghers.
I don't think Noel and Liam would be too fond of that kind of music; that chucky, overblown riffage is not really them. Noel said once, even though he likes the lads from JET, he doesn't really dig their music (and they basically ape AC/DC). The interesting thing about Noel is that he is often referred to as an average guitarist with a limited arsenal of chords but the way he arranges songs and his ear for melody ends up making many Oasis songs sound quite intricate. He looked as if he was deliberately trying to dumb down and simplify a song like I Can See A Liar. As a result, the riff sounds like a shitty copy of AC/DC. But compare Oasis at their ear bleeding best. Songs like Headshrinker and Bring It On Down trounce a lot of Acca Dacca's stuff. Columbia has about a million guitar solos compared to the one you usually here in an AC/SC song.
The late Sixties is more the Gallaghers' scene. Oasis loved touring with Australian band 'You Am I' and rightly praised them no end- they really are the bollocks. As are The Pictures (they channel that Faces retro vibe like Heavy Stereo but superior).
To Oasis fans of this site and indeed Noel, Liam, Andy and Gem I'd heartily reccommend The Pictures two records releases thus far, 'Pieces of Eight' (2005) and 'Kicking Indifference' (2008). If Beady Eye are kinda like these guys I'll be happy:

AC/DC are rubbish and while Noel doesn't have the most expansive taste in music he does know good from bad.

Fleetwood Mac = bluesy rock you meant is Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green, but I'm pretty sure Fleetwood Mac Noel loves is Fleetwood Mac with Stevie Nicks. "Rumours" was a brilliant album btw.

I'm really really surprised that The Smiths and The Jam are not on the list.

^ But that list isn't the top Noel's favourite bands, it's the ones "he believes are the 10 best bands of all time".... There might be a difference, and that's why The Smiths and The Jam didn't make it.

It's not the top 10 Noel's favourite bands, it's the 10 he considers to be the best in the world.

How can you call one of the biggest touring rock and roll bands in the world a cult band? They're massive. If they play a gig it WILL sell out. That's not being a cult band

I haven't listened to all of AC/DC's stuff but I've listened to the bones of it really because my girlfriends dad loves them and I can safely say that 99.9% of their music makes my ears bleed!
