Doves have announced their best of released on 5th of April 2010. A couple of new tracks on there as well; "Blue Water", "Drifter", and new single "Andalucia". You can hear Andalucia here (about 11 mins in): www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00r3t11 . Another quality song from them, hopefully we'll get a tour to promote it, yet to see them live and am aching to do so. "So here we are, twelve years since Doves formed in Manchester and released the Cedar Room EP on the Casino Records imprint (funded by the one and only Rob Gretton) and ten years have elapsed since Doves epochal debut, “Lost Souls” was released on the legendary Heavenly Recordings. In that time we have been privy to a catalogue of genre-warping singles and a quartet of albums that have forced writers to go back to the thesaurus in search of new superlatives. These are “The Places Between”, A multi-format best of that has cherry picked the best from number one albums: ‘The Last Broadcast’ and ‘Some Cities’, last years critically acclaimed masterpiece, ‘Kingdom Of Rust’ and their generation defining debut ‘Lost Souls’. Indeed, from number 3 hit ‘There Goes The Fear’ to the Motown thump of ‘Black and White Town’ and the anthemic morning after glow of ‘The Cedar Room’. ‘The Places Between’ has been painstakingly sequenced by Jimi, Andy and Jez themselves in the way they want you to experience their last decades work, in short this is the definitive Doves Best Of. Furthermore, in addition to a host of B sides, rarities, and unreleased tracks that make up the second disc there is a smattering of brand-new recordings, ‘Blue Water’, Drifter (Featuring Cherry Ghost’s Simon Aldred) and the brilliant new single ‘Andalucia’." The album comes in single disc and multi disc versions. The tracklistings are as follows: DISC ONE – The Best Of 1. There Goes The Fear 2. Black and White Town 3. Snowden 4. Here It Comes 5. Words 6. Kingdom Of Rust 7. Sea Song 8. Pounding 9. 10:03 10. Catch The Sun 11. Jetstream 12. The Man Who Told Everything (Summer Version) 13. Andalucia 14. Caught By The River 15. The Cedar Room DISC TWO – Rarities, B sides and alternate versions 1. Blue Water 2. Eleven Miles Out 3. Rise 4. Darker 5. Push Me On 6. Willow's Song (Bury Version) 7. Valley 8. Northenden 9. break me gently, rise, firesuite?
That is in justice.
I love Doves. I hope this doesn't mean they are done. They are way too talented to quit now. I hope they come back to the states for this best of.

I love Doves. I hope this doesn't mean they are done. They are way too talented to quit now. Not a chance. They're just capitalizing on their increased popularity following Kingdom of Rust. Kings of Leon did a similar thing in repackaging their old albums alongside Only By The Night.

They'll be a new album in 2012 hopefully.
Jez interview September last year:
"We've done four albums so next year, around January time, we are putting out a greatest hits collection. I know four albums isn't masses but we have been around for ages because each album takes so long to write," explained Jez Williams.
"We will have to start thinking about a fifth album after the greatest hits collection, but in all honesty, I doubt we'll finish our fifth album until at least two or three years' time."
He added: "It makes me sick just thinking about it. That's because I know it will be the start of two to three years of arguments. The thing about Doves is all three of us write each song. We're a democracy, and we always have different input into each songs so it ends up taking ages. Expect a new Doves album in 2012."

am I the only one who wasn't crazy about Kingdom of Rust? It had a couple solid tracks, but a lot of the tracks on there seem like fillers and the album in general doesn't have the same atmosphere as the other ones. I feel like I'm the only one who was disappointed with the album cuz everyone else I've asked loved the album, but it has to be my least favorite album. I'll take Lost Souls anyday though

I'll admit I didn't take to it initially like I did with the previous 3 albums and of the 4 I would agree that it's their "worst" album for want of a better word but that's taking nothing away from it. Give it a few more listens

It's not exactly a best of is it. Not for me anyway. I a big Doves fan, but this release is just a history of singles with the odd new track and a few b-sides.
This release is good for Doves fans and collectors. But i wouldn't call it a best of. U2, Rolling Stones, Oasis, Stone Roses have a body of work to call a best of. Doves fall short in my book.
This release just looks like a quick money spinner. Similar to what Happy Mondays, Charlatans and other bands have done over the years.
