On that note: It's a real shame the vast majority know The Verve only for Urban Hymns, because the songs from that era (and plenty of those from Forth, while we're at it) are fucking masterpieces.

I so know what you mean! I bought the four Verve albums, and the two I listen to the most are Forth and A Storm In Heaven. I just can't believe the non-reaction Forth had, best album of the last decade in my opinion. I'm seriously considering importing No Come Down. Best band ever. Transcendent.

Believe me well worth the time and the money. It's got the glastonbury version of Gravity Grave. If that doesn't make your heart go fast I don't know what will

In a totally different vein: If you haven't already, get the acoustic version from the Slide Away single, it's phenomenal.

I've got it already, it just does my head in the way these guys didn't make a decent B-sides collection. Songs like I See The Door, Let The Damage Begin or All In The Mind aren't in any album, and I'm just not buying all the singles (although they're very tempting, amazing artwork, amazing songs)

Hate to break up The Verve love fest (I love 'em too, fantastic band), but Poor Places by Wilco always gets me.

That song is fucking amazing, Rita! Have they got any more like that? What would you suggest? I'm really glad you liked it! That song is from their debut album "Marks", they have some other great ones like this one: - I love the piano on that. And if you liked their music, you'll also like some other progressive rock bands like Guru Guru, Can, Neu!, Arktis and Faust, to name a few...very psychedelic stuff, I love it. Hidden treasures.

Jimmy Chamberlin was (is) a phenomenal drummer. On that note: It's a real shame the vast majority know The Verve only for Urban Hymns, because the songs from that era (and plenty of those from Forth, while we're at it) are fucking masterpieces. Early shoegaze Verve were excellent. S/T EP and A Storm In Heaven are their best releases.

I agree, I feel Forth is a classic. It's a pity it didn't have the impact UH had. Stayed 2 weeks at number 1 in the UK charts, but then it quickly fell.
