When you listen to WTSMG as an album, what do you feel about these instrumentals.

I voted that they make the album. They are essential to the flow of the record, and the 1.20 seconds that they take up certainly aren't difficult to listen to in the slightest

i love swamp song & i think instrumental portions of music can really bring out the song & make a point to what the band is trying to get across.

They're useless, especially the second one, the transition between Morning Glory and Champagne Supernova is perfect without it.

Tend to agree really. I always wonder whether Soul II Soul noticed (or received a payment for) a sample of one of their songs in the radio static as the end of Morning Glory fades into Track 11. Unless I'm mistaken at 4.59 on track 10 Morning Glory you can hear the singer from Soul II Soul sing "without a lover to call your own" from this song 'Love Enuff'. It happens at 1.50 on the Soul II Soul song. I always figured it was Noel doing that thing Lennon did at the end of I am the Walrus, scanning random radio stations and mixing them into the song for psychedelic effect.

I really think theyre the perfect break in between completely different songs, such as MG and CS

You just blew my fucking head off with that! That's so crazy, I always wondered what that short bit of a tune was from! Anyway, I think they add a bit of quirky character. Not absolutely necessary, but all the same I don't mind them there.

Ha! Love Enuff was a big hit and all over Radio 1 in Britain in mid-95 when the band were mixing MG so if I'm right about Noel randomly scanning radio transmissions I assume that's how it got on there.
I used to listen to Radio 1 all the time in that period - school holidays, killing time - and Love Enuff stood out as being a class tune. Then it just happened to be on a Now! compilation CD I bought at the height of the Britpop (it also had Some Might Say, Pulp's Common People, Supergrass etc. on it) so I listened to it a lot on that.
When I heard What's The Story for the first time in October '95, Love Enuff was familiar in my brain so it occurred to me straight away that was what it was.
I can't believe since almost everybody in Britain owned / heard the MG album, Soul II Soul didn't hear it, but it was never reported that they took any legal action that I'm aware of.

I thought the sample had some effect put on it, like it was reversed etc, but turns out it wasn't. Still sounds good.
I like the bit between, gives the album something more, like a bit more structure or something.

I'd say neither. They're not vital but they're good when you're listening to the album all the way through.
Also it's a long shot but does anyone have an mp3 of Love Enuff? Thanks ;D

Also it's a long shot but does anyone have an mp3 of Love Enuff? Thanks ;D This is the first time I've uploaded anything so I hope it went OK. I've sent you a PM with the link. My version is from that Now compilation and says it's an 'edit' but I'm guessing its probably the same as the version on youtube.

I love it. Never heard that in there before. I'd always heard the scanning and whatnot but never knew you could make anything out!!

they are making the album cos flows the record, you cant put the rocker morning glory and then a slow song you need someting like a bridge and noel and owen did a great work doing that 39 seconds track

Not exactly sure, but maybe the bit of the tune used at the end of Morning Glory is too short to warrant any action? I mean, it's like less then 5 seconds at least.

I think you only need to pay royalties if the sample's 12 secs or more, so you'd be right

I think they're pretty useless. I have the Stop the Clocks version on my iPod and Morning Glory and Champagne Supernova just flow right into each other.

USELESS!!! My only qualm about that most amazing record. If they had combined them for a proper instrumental, then it makes sense. But its absolutely useless

The first portion of SS is OK because they put the best part of the song. The second portion of SS, with that radio and water effects, is the perfect bridge between the rocker MG to the epic CS.

I like the way they help the flow of the album, but I don't like it that they were used as songs... I mean, if you're gonna have little bits of one song at least put some more in the album... I'd much rather have Underneath The Sky and Rockin' Chair instead...
