There seems to be a lot of love for DOYS on here and I'm starting to wonder if I'm missing something.
To me it's got a few stand-out moments of quality but about two-thirds of it is really sub-par.
I wasn't expecting another Definitely Maybe or Morning Glory (I've given up hoping after 14 years) but it really is a huge disappointment.
Nearly four months on this is how I see it.
Bag It Up - Starts off sounding like Nickelback. Lyrics make no sense (Noel's memories of a drug trip apparently) and although that didn't stop Supersonic being a brilliant tune this just sounds dumb ('shine a light on the choir' etc). No real melody.
The Turning - One of the better songs but still sounds a bit limp, certainly not the blistering energy of the first two albums as some have suggested. Dodgy lyrics.
Waiting For The Rapture - Good song but a bit too plodding and Force of Nature like. They should have picked the alternate version from the bonus disc which is fantastic.
The Shock of The Lightning - Hated it when I first heard it. Thought it was embarrassing pastiche. The lines 'Love is a time machine up on the silver screen, love is a litany, a magical mystery' made me cringe. Has grown on me but not really an Oasis classic and probably the weakest first single they've put out.
I'm Outta Time - A good song spoiled by Liam doing yet another John Lennon impression which is getting ridiculous now.
(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady - Alright groove but doesn't really go anywhere and outstays its welcome. Filler.
Falling Down - Thought it was great when first heard it and still like it but it doesn't seem to have another gear and doesn't improve with further listens. Still one of the better tracks though.
To Be Where There's Life - Embarrassing use of a sitar to make it sound Beatlesy. Good vocals from Liam just about saves it but again sounds too much like pastiche.
Ain't Got Nothin' - Good Liam vocals, good to get some rawness back but this is still filler. File with Meaning Of Soul.
The Nature of Reality - Jesus. This is criminal, from it's crap, cliched lyrics to its dull tune. Should never have been a B-side, let alone made it on to the album.
Soldier On - Strange to think that the great Noel Gallagher is now taking advice from The Coral about what to put on his band's albums. This should have been called Soldier Through. It feels like a slog just listening to it. And I've only done that about twice.
Anyone agree or am I way off the mark here?

I kinda agree with u, imean, everyone rave about BIU & TT, tho i feel as if noel just thought "alright, lets take 5 minutes to try and write something that sounds like the 94-95 stuff" ..feels totaly fake to me..("come on shake your regdoll" ...?) i find nothing thrilling about those 2 and TSOL also.. IOT is great IMO & TF is a F**ing smart tune. from the other hand tho, i think most people expectations from oasis these days are low, and as long as the stuff is better then HC its great. people say some of this stuff couldve been on DM or MG but if it was it wouldve been the less rememberd stuff. Not that my exepectations were high, i wasn't expecting another DM or MG too, but im just not convinced by Those "anthem rockers", they sound like they were written in some formula 2 me....

No, i'm listening to an album by a band who had THREE years to write, and even tho it is not a double album, i still got THREE album fillers (AGN, GOYHHL & TNOR)
Ive mentioned these on the forum and ill mention these again - 4 songwriters, 3 years - this means each of them shouldve written ONE proper tune per year! Getting 3 crap fillers like those and half decent tunes like Soldier On or Waiting For The Rapture is just lazy....

It's got roughly 3 x excellent songs. About another 3 x half-decent songs. The rest is plain lazy and of no use.

If thats so than i dont know what worse, if theyre lazy, or if they think TNOR is a proper song.

i see you points but i disagree completely. Oasis is back to true rock n roll. I mean DBTT, HC, SOTSOG were all rock n roll but this album is just like heavier. Its great i haven't listened to it in about a week i think i'm gonna throw it on.

i guess in the end its just a matter of opinion. personally i think the album is their 3rd best (with dbtt a close 4th).
bag it up is insane - up there with the best of oasis turning is just rocking - one of oasis best tunes (not THE best) waiting for the rapture - i dont know what it is, this tune is just magical. one of the best oasis songs ever shock of the lightning - i love it, great rocking tune, love the way it sounds im outta time - just a great song. incredible chorus and the 'im outta time' bit at the end hhl - i love it. i just love the melody, the sound, the lyrics falling down - just a fantastic tune, though not as incredible as some say. tbwtl - love it agn - pure real rock n roll. great nor - i actually like it. not the best oasis song ever, but a cool song nonetheless. nice lyrics so - LOVE IT. so very cool. just a good song IMO
i feel sorry for the people who dont like this album.

I'm a huge Oasis fan but i'm not the type to rave on about every songs the best and every album is great etc.
Was disappointed with many songs on HC, DBTT was a welcome return but still wasnt great to me, was very good but i wasnt blown away.
After the initial 3 month 'wow its a new album' hype where you love most songs as theyre so new i'm still really really enjoying it.
Even liking get off your high horse a fraction more as before i detested this song. The 'filler' ones arent bad, soldier on and TNOR but to me theyre just as good as some of the 'filler' ones on WTSMG, eg Hey now (which i really like).
I love the new sound, shock of the lightening has grown on me even more. Yeah I'm outta time is another Lennon style one but i really love that song, if you reflect on something sad (or great) in your life when thats blaring out it gives me good pimples !
Strangely the turning i'm not so keen on, love the chorus but not the build up.
Overall a really good album and probably my 3rd favourite after WTSMG and DM (With the much underated SOTSOG 4th).

With respect to sound, this is as close as Oasis have gotten to DM. WTSMG, HC, SOTSOG were all very soft and somewhat mellow.
Again -
Heavy Rock: DM, BHN, DOYS Anthems and Ballads: WTSMG, SOTSOG, HC Stripped Down Sound: DBTT

BIU- Good not spectacular TT- Same as BIU WFTR- Love it! Probably my second fav song on the album TSOTL- My fav song on DOYS. Old Oasis revived. IOT- Like it don't love it though GOYHHL- Weakest song on album. Skip it usually FD- Liked it more when it first came out. It's good though. TBWTL- Actually really dig this song. Good lyrics AGN- Alright. 6 outof 10 TNOR- Fantastic lyrics. Not as bad as people say. I like it. Good groove. SO- Cool groove.
I think DOYS works better as an album than individual songs. Overall: 7.5/8 out of 10. Solid effort.

i think DOYS its a great album (for us the fans), first time listeners, they like TSOTL and IOT, bag it up too
but for them the rest of the album its not that good, dont get me wrong, i love it but to have 3 years in the making, something is missing
i will love if they bring owen morris to produce again, what happen to that guy?? where is he? it would be nice to hear some 90's sound back on oasis!

Fuck this thread. What I want to know is: Am I Missing Something?
I've seen a few posts claiming that this is one of Oasis' worst albums.
Seriously, what the fuck?
Heathen Chemistry is by far their worst. FON? PAINTM? BM? HIABP? AQP?......Fuck off Standing On the Shoulder of Giants has some of Oasis' worst material: ICAL, PYMWYMI, LJ......Again, fuck off. Don't Believe The Truth is good but it misses the Oasis bravado, something that DOYS def. doesn't lack, so yes, please fuck off again.
DOYS is the best album since BHN, and arguarably since WTSMG. So what it has 3 average tracks? The rest of the album if fucking awesomely rocking. This is what Oasis is suppose to sound like, something they haven't done since 1997.

Yeah! Anyone who doesn’t share your opinion should FUCK OFF.
BHN and DBTT are much better than DOYS because they have songs on them I will remember, sing along too, and love forever. Sure DOYS is 'rocking' but I don't see why you would want to produce a monotonous album. Monotonous = boring. WFTR alt version is the only song which would probably make my Oasis top 40 songs from the album and the bonus disk.
