Elbow's positioning in that chart is a fucking joke an'all. The Seldom Seen Kid is one of the best albums of the past decade, never mind year. And no mention of Coldplay, Kings Of Leon, The Verve, or The Killers.

I think I listen to a diverse and eclectic array of music, but this list is pure music snobbery at its highest form judging by the fact I only recognize half the bands

And no mention of Coldplay, Kings Of Leon, The Verve, or The Killers. I was disapointed with miost of those albums this year but they were still the best released this year. AND METALLICA AHEAD OF OASIS!! WTF!

^^^^
they're english and the album's good (if you like noisy pop)... the list makes them look like Pitchfork wannabes so Oasis being on it is surprising.

I'll agree that the list is pretty shit, but Only By The Night deserves no mention on any list other then "Most disappointing while at the same time appalling boring" albums of the year.

Horrible, Horrible List. ACDC ahead of Oasis? PSHHHHHh
And the fact that The Last Shadow Puppets are #2 shows this list is shit, that album is SO average.

I think Only By the Night was the biggest disappointment of my music-fanatic career. 3 decent songs, that's it.

That is a terrible list any way you look at it. It was probably made for those indie hipster snobs that read pitchfork.

Elbow should DEFINITELY be higher. As should Oasis.
That said, the Fleet Foxes album IS excellent.

why do these "end of year" list compliers seem to think its there duty to make a top 50 list of near enough unknown acts?

I don't think that DOYS is fanstastic, but it CERTAINLY shouldn't be 50th!!! WTF?
And come on - no Verve?
But at least 22 Dreams is #3

You have to realize that they always kick off lists like these with a pick that's obviously better just so that the list as a whole seems stronger. It's not like they polled the people buying the records. Oasis being last on this best of list really means they're about 11th in the editor's eyes
