Is this true of the rest of you lot? I wouldn't even put it in their top 20. Great song no doubt, but they have so much better... I really don't give a fuck about the song.

Yea, I'm the same. Every now and then I'll give it a play and it's ok. I think it got so famous because it has huge appeal outside of oasis fans.

I'd much rather rock out to Bag it Up or Columbia or get all teary to DLBA or Champagne Supernova, or go mad with something like Go Let It Out, To Be Where There's Life or TIOBI.

The song cannot be in the daily rotation of oasis songs. However, it is brilliance. The track laid down perfect vocals and melody, great beat, the melotron was great. It added up to a perfect pop/rock ballad.
I dislike the song because of the people who like the song. Perfect example, sometime this past August, my best friend and I were out drinking one night, and there was this kick ass cover duo, a guy and girl, taking turns signing and playing guitar, the other would play the bongos. They played wonderwall to finish their set. A bunch of drunk, former frat boy and sorority douche bags, started singing at the top of their lungs, "THIS IS MY SONG! I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! OASIS!!! WOOOOOO!!!" My best friend and I shook our heads at the same time and said, "fucking fake fans." The cover was really cool with the two of them.

Yeah I know what you mean, everytime I meet someone new, and we start talking about music and he or she asks me who's my favorite band and I say Oasis, he/she goes "Yeah I love Oasis, I love that song...what's it called...erm...and afteraaall you're my wonderwaaaall,...wonderwall...yes!" Still Its a great song but nowehere near theyr best

I wouldn't even put it in their top 20. That's fucking crazy talk, that is. yea.... agreed i mean, most hardcore Oasis fans prolly dont listen to it a lot because its still fucking EVERYWHERE... but theres a damn good reason for that. Its just a fantastic song. I know for a fact that most of my friends couldnt name one other Oasis song (although a few could name CS and DLBIA), and yet Im sure all could agree that Wonderwall is one of their top 25 favorite songs ever. Even though I barely listen to the song, itll still always be one of my top 3 or 5 favorite Oasis songs ever. They have a lot of great songs, yes, but I loved Wonderwall prolly 4 years before I ever took the time to listen to another Oasis song. theres no way in hell i ever woulda taken the time to listen to DM or WTSMG if I hadnt previously loved the song, so itll always be great for me.

I mean, i'll be the fist to admit, Wonderwall was the first Oasis song I heard. I saw the video and was like that's fucking bad ass! A couple of weeks later, my cousin visited for a week and he had the cd. I remember listening to it nonstop! When he left, I got the cd. Ahhh, 1996. What a simpler time.
I would just be able to enjoy this song a whole lot more, and really enjoy the brilliance of it, had it not been played out to death.

I admit, Wonderwall is probably one of their better songs and definately their most successful but they have done better. Its like AC/DC. Everyone claims to listen to them, but rarely, if not at all, listen to any song other than Back in Black. People will claim to like Oasis on the back of Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, Don't Look Back in Anger, Little by Little (songs like that) and thats it. Okay, its great people like them but I hate it when those people claim to be 'huge fans'. Thats what gets me.

If I purposely listen to Wonderwall less than other songs, it's not because the song itself is shite. It's because its impact has been diluted by ten years of radio airplay and constant setlist rotation, and I've probably heard it about 800 times.
Overkill, simple. Doesn't make it any less one of the greatest songs ever written.

an amazing song, that i barely listen to on purpose.its because its played out in my mind many times over. the song is one of the greatest songs ever written though, but then again theres live forever wich is the greatest song of all songs, and not just amongst oasis songs.

I listen to it too seldom at home. Every time it comes on over the radio in a shop or somewhere, I still think "Wow... what a brilliant song!". Its freshness still surprises. One of Liam's best vocals ever, too!

Do you do the little dance from the video?! LOL, I know I do sometimes, or at least tap in beat with it. I had NEVER heard of Wonderwall until I got Stop The Clocks, and that's actually true. I was just watching PBS one day and The Royle Family came on and I just had to have the song playing. I rarely hear it though, and I didn't think many people had heard of it. Although, I had a shite graduation party a couple of months ago, and some guy came into my room, and they were asking me to play my favorite songs and artists, and they belted out every word. It made the night so worth it.

It never even loses it freshness for me even though I've heard it a billion times, and I'll hear it a billion more. The re-mastered versions which are around with clearer guitar overdubs underscore how amazing the total package is - voice, tune. The guitar, bass, mellotron parts are stunning (all played singlehandedly by Noel IIRC). Too bad a lot of twats got into the band solely because of the song but that's no reason to hate on it.
I remember an interview on Radio 1 with Noel in the summer of 1995, a month or two before the release of WTSMG and he was asked what was his ambitions were for the future. He said "I'd like to write the perfect pop song", well whether Noel likes it or not he already had : surely Wonderwall is as close to perfect pop as it gets, appealing to the housewives, grannies, mopey indie kids and pissed-up lads in equal measure.

It's brilliant. Anyone who says otherwise is daft. Sadly, Noel will more than likely never craft another pop gem like that again.
