Just got this email from oasisinet: Oasis to play Slane Castle Oasis are delighted to announce that they will be playing the legendary Slane Castle on Saturday June 20th 2009. This is the first time the band have headlined this famous outdoor venue, although they played there as special guests to REM in 1995. Located in the Boyne Valley near Dublin, Slane Castle has over the past thirty years hosted concerts by the some of the world's greatest bands, including U2, the Rolling Stones, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Young, and Bruce Springsteen. Tickets go on sale on Friday the 24th October at 8AM through www.ticketmaster.ie and 0818 719 300 (R.O.I.) & 0870 243 4455 (N.I.) Oasis' new album, the first to be released in Ireland on their Big Brother Recordings label, entered the charts last week at number two and has already been certified platinum. I got a question for you guys (and please go easy, I'm Canadian). I'm going to Glastonbury next year, so would it be feasable for me to goto the Slane castle gig the weekend before, then go from Ireland to Glastonbury the next week? I mean if Oasis are going to do Glastonbury (unlikely I'm thinking) I don't need to go to Slane. But seriously, how epic would that be to do both? I'm also expecting its going to be alot of money.

You can also go down through Ireland and ferry over from Rosslare to Fishguard (Wales)/take the train to Glasto. Can I come with ya - LOL www.stenaline.co.uk/ferry/

By the way, they sure burned a lot of people saying they were playing their "home", everyone figured that would be Manchester (myself included.. you cheeky gits ).

Every time ive been to Slane I have had such a quality day out.
The Verve 1998 Robbie Williams 1999 U2 2001 The Rolling Stones 2007
Sometimes its not even the band that have made my day, its the area. Slane is a little small village in Ireland just outside of Dublin, around 20 miles or so. The gig itself has always been a day event as far as Ive known it, like a festival but for one day only. Bands start playing at around 1 o clock so the line up for this gig next year is bound to be quality. The area where the concert is itself holds around 80-100,000 people and its on a hill which, if its sunny, is great place to sit back, relax and get slowly drunk/stoned during the day.
I advise anyone from outside of Ireland thinking of going........TO GO.
