What a monumental song. Best on the album, and that's a hard decision, and, furthermore, speaks volumes about how good this album is.
It's in the same vein as Some Might Say in how it sounds a bit, but more in the way that it's a mix of smart lyrics and nonsensical lyrics.
Some Might Say has more silly lyrics, the only part I can't make sense of is "shake your ragdoll baby" in The Turning.
Many Oasis songs are like - most are their best - that have overall silly lyrics but hidden genius lines: Supersonic - "I need to be myself, I can't be no one else"; Some Might Say - "Some might say they don't believe in heaven" part, etc
The Turning is VERY similar to Stone Roses - the Liam sung verses are SO similar to Stone Roses, and it works.
The guitar solo is great - very much like the BHN days.
"Be the fallen angel by my side" is just so euphoric.
And both other versions - Alternative Noel sung AND remix are equally as epic.
Should be in the set list, best Oasis song since the WTSMG/BHN days, hands down. 10/10. Oasis at their best.

I agree. Top song. Along with Bag It Up they are in the top 5 Oasis songs of the decade.

You have been on a roll lately Notorious! You should write reviews for Rolling Stone lol. Your post have been an interesting read lately and you use many facts to back up your opinion. The only problem I have with this song is that they sing "Shake your rag doll baby" too much. If they had cut that down a bit I'd give it a 10/10. My review is 9.5/10, classic song.

its in my top 15 favorite oasis songs. Those keys are just so chill then that chorus just rips out and its like heavy as hell. The lyrics are pretty solid. Its got a killer solo. I love the falsetto "shake you rag doll baby shake it high" part. And as seeing Dear Prudence is my favorite beatles song i love that outro.

Amazing song. Between The Turning and Waiting For The Rapture, I've found at least 2 new songs for my Oasis top 10, with Bag It Up and I'm Outta Time not far off.

I'm with you, it's vintage Oasis mixed with the new groovey Oasis! The piano riff just pulsates through whilst Liam's vocals drift along like a breeze. "We live with the numbers, mining our dreams for the same old song" - it's pure ecstacy, then the ferocious chorus comes in with a bluesy riff underscoring the sheer venom.
The guitar solo and differing choruses also give you something great to look forward to which is a feeling I think is kind of lost after TSOTL's drum solo, there's not as much desire to listen to the final minute because its the verses that make The Shock what it is.
I'm preying for The Turning to be played in Belfast!

Along with Shock, I think it's the best track on the album.
They both sound like tunes Noel wrote during the classic era that he found, long forgotten, in the bottom of a drawer somewhere.
I think they're lazy for not playing it on this tour.

This song really stands out for me. I mean, the start begins will a slow groove intoduction, but then the chorus just takes you away

Its a good song, not my favorite, its not better than TSOTL, but since you guys already played out TSOTL you like TT better because its 'newer' I agree 100%, after hearing the whole album, TSOTL was definitely the right choice for a lead single. However, The Turning is a great song, and the chorus is top class. They should really do it live

I think they will play the Turning at the BBC Electric proms gig this month...as they'll want to do something special with the 50 piece choir! (And the great news is..that gig will be on the radio!!)....I'm hoping they'll play it anyway!! It's the only song on DOYS which used the 50 piece choir so I think they should at least play it live then!! It will be amazing live!

I do like it, but it hasn't blown me away yet. Maybe it will soon.
