So it’s good news bad news at this point. Dig Out Your Soul is projected to sell 55K to 60K this week. That is clearly a letdown cause the last CD sold 68K week 1. Granted that was 3 years ago and economically speaking it feels like 3000 years ago. I know that C D sales continue to decline so it’s a coin flip I guess. The good news is that the CD is tracking to be 5th in the billboard top 200. Now that is pretty cool considering that they have not been top 10 since 1997. So all in all its pretty good I’d say. But it’s amazing to think that they sold 90K day 1 in the UK and will probably sell 250K to 300K for the week. That is impressive as always… Will have total Global week 1 sales next Thursday night… Info is from.. www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgiYOUR WEAKEND TOP 10 PREVIEW: Four debuts, and maybe five, are headed for next week’s leader board, led by Rise Against (Geffen/Interscope) with a projected 70-75k. That total appears to be enough for a #2 finish behind reigning champ TI (Grand Hustle/Atlantic), who has enough momentum to wind up with another 175-200k in week two. Then we’ve got #3 Jennifer Hudson (Arista/RMG) with 65-70k, #4 Metallica (Warner Bros.) with 60-65k, Oasis’ first for Warner Bros. bowing at #5 with 55-60k and #6 Ne-Yo (Def Jam/IDJ) with 50-55k. The next five slots are up for grabs, with three debuts—a Bob Dylan Bootleg Series set (Columbia/Legacy), a best-of from Tim McGraw (Curb) and a hits collection from Sarah McLachlin (Arista/RMG)—all trending toward 40-45k, as are Kid Rock (Atlantic) and Robin Thicke (Star Trak/Interscope). You may now return to averting your eyes from the CNBC stock ticker. (10/10a)

yeah... top 5 isn't "that bad" but still... i was hoping for a top 3. I knew T.I. was more than likely to remain as #1, then Rise Against who is a popular band here in the states, but i didn't think Metallica could outsell Oasis in its 5th week of release, i mean WHO THE FUCK KEEPS BUYING THAT SHIT!?? in its 5th week?? come on! and Jennifer Hudson? wow... give me a fucking break! she was on American idol and all but she didn't even win it! she wasn't even a finalist! lol oh well... top 5 it is, hopefully...

i'd say the economy has a lot to do with it. most people are not going out spending $14 or however much it is for a cd/legal download.

i for one am very VERY disappointed in this country lol seriously though, the album had some decent advertising, not "great" but fairly decent imo. I just expected more, perhaps 40-50% more than what it is being "projected". I also didn't think Metallica could still sell so much in its 5th week. i understand the band has way more fans in the UK than here but are you kidding me? 90K in one day in England and about half of that in a week in a country that's 20 times bigger!?

Dude, you're taking it too hard Oasis has never sold well in north america. The only album that sold really well was Morning Glory. The UK will always love them since they're seen as working class and they have a catalogue of great hits.Metallica is awesome by the way!!

I woudlnt be disappointed with this. A top 5 album for Oasis in America is HUGE
Not as many people are buying albums now anyways as compared to 2005, this economy in the States is SHIT right now

the economy can't be used as an excuse because whoever the fuck TI is is selling 100K plus... it's all about promotion and the way the music industry is set up now

We just have to accept it, and yes, our economy is on the verge of collapsing. People are about to lose more jobs, and I bet you that it's a threat to the music industry aswell. For the most part, teenagers are buying the albums today. You know, they aren't worried about saving money or the economy, they just want all the latest stuff. TI is everywhere, is in a bunch songs, etc. Rap is a bigger market than it was ten years ago, we just have to accept the movement. It'll go away eventually.

For those concerned about money, the album is $9.99 at Bestbuy. I remember when CD's cost 20 bucks back in the day. I will gladly pay 10 bucks for a great CD.

i live here, and the state of popular music in america is SHIT. look at what they're competing with? ne-yo? TI? who the fuck, what the fuck, and who cares? a bunch of fucking idiots buying a load of shit. the fact that they came in (or are supposed to) at #5 is probably an achievement these days...

I would actually be quite shocked if those numbers hold and Metallica only manages to out distance them by 5 to 10 k copies.
Let's face it, it's a US based heavy metal Icon VS a Brit Pop/Rock band competing in a US album market.
EDIT , just realized Metallica are in week 5 , so I guess the numbers are to be expected, they sold about 175k in the first week of their release....

Listen, I think this album is a number 3 album or a number 2 album. The weekend still has not come and most people are more likely to buy a CD over the weekend when they actually have time and also the fact that they have just gotten paid on that Friday. The music market in America is weak. I live in Chicago and the album is getting alot of buzz. There are people who haven't hear Oasis since WTSMG and they are really excited. So, before you start getting worried at least wait til' the weekend is done. If Oasis isn't in the top 3 by then, then they won't be, if they are then they will be. Besides, have some faith!

more likely right than wrong... oasis is never going to be that popular in the US, hate to burst ur bubble
but more importantly who cares.... they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. as long as YOU like oasis who gives a shit what the rest of the country thinks?

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm just pretty happy that Oasis is projected to have a top 5 album in the US! That is a pretty badass accomplishment for the boys.

No 5 is amazing!
What we want is a slow burner so it hangs around a bit.
I have a hunch this will be another breakthrough album in the US and teh world over (the UK loves oasis so no surprise it's doing well there)
Rollingstone have even featured I'm outta time as one of teh songs you can listen to from their homepage!
This is a breakthrough in it;s own right as RS detest oasis with a passion.

No 5. is great in terms of cosmetics and seeing it at #5 , but its pretty fucking telling about the state of the industry when 60000 gets you a top 5 album.
Its pretty telling when DBTT, which was not nearly as well promoted as this, sells more and debuts even lower.
However, it looks good cosmetically and that may keep it around a bit longer, but the thing is going to drop next week, and pretty severely I'd imagine (US).
You can't blame it entirely on the economy either. This is an industry wide issue (dwindling CD sales) and has been for 3+ years. Its steadily gotten worse and worse, and the economy just compounds the problem.

oddly enough I'm perfectly happy with oasis sales being just where they are. It means sales are just strong enough to warrant more US tours and just weak enough to keep tickets for the shows available and affordable.
Sounds perfect to me as I'm trying to find just one Friday night Wembley floor ticket so I can go to the show with some friends who were lucky enough to get a couple at the face value. I can't find one for less than £200 (about $370)
