I was thinking back to the release of DBTT -
Lyla:
When Lyla was first leaked on the Polish Radio and we all heard it for the first time, I remember thinking - and reading on this forum - what the fuck is this? Liam's vocals/the rhythm were pretty sloppy, sounded awkward. But I, along with most on here, love that tune - it's just a fun pop song and a very good Oasis by numbers (must be insane live too from watching the Manchester 2005 gig).
Part of the Queue:
This is the song special to me, and the track I had in mind when creating this thread topic. I disliked POTQ initially
In fact, I just searched the forum, and this is what I said in my first review of DBTT on May 31, 2005:
Part of The Queue- 7/10, hard one to rate, it's not bad but not amazing--average
Compare that to what I said on January 1, 2008:
Part of the Queue: Wonderful song, all around. "Every begining has broken it's promise" is one of Noel's best one liners. 10/10 ------------
So somewhere within those 2.5 years, POTQ jumped 3 stars for me. In fact, I declare it my favorite on DBTT, ahead of TIOBI, LLAB, Lyla respectively. ------------
I'm not saying the same thing happens to everyone, nor am I suggesting it will happen even for me with DOYS. I mean, there are songs on DBTT that I'm still indifferent about (LTBL - could have been epic, but Noel fucked the sound over, KTDA - love the attitude and vocals but needs more polished production, MF - good lyrics, boring on the album though, etc)
So maybe SO, AGN, TNOR won't grow on me anymore - decent tunes as it stands, but nothing more, not now anyway. Or maybe I'll love a song even more that I already liked.
My point - these things just hit you. One day, for whatever reason, you could be like "fuck me, Soldier On is epic, how didnt i see that before?"
So, my advice - don't ALWAYS skip the poorer tracks, give them a listen occasionally....
We may have had the albums for 3 weeks now, and we may have listened to it hundreds of times, but there's still a lot to be had.....

Agreed but Lyla is still shit to me but I know what you mean Like, when people say "Maybe SO, AGN, etc will grow on me".....I see what they're saying, but at the same time they're predicting what might happen - my point is that you can't predict it, it just happens. There will always be songs you don't like (again, ABWR, LTBL for me from DBTT) but when you finally "get a song", the moment that you realize - 'WHOA thats actually pretty damn good' - is magical. It's only really happened to me with POTQ, but it's amazing when you make that kind of realization. Also, just listening to Soldier On on repeat hundred of times wont necessarily make it 'grow on you'....it doesnt happen that way, you can't force yourself to like something....let it happen on its own - might take years, but it's worth it.

When I first heard the demo of AGN, I though it was appaling. Allthough the album-version isnt much different from the demo, it has certainly grown on me. I think its way better than MOS and GGTIA. However, it will never be a classic or fav song of mine, but I dont skip it.

I'm pretty sure NOR will not grow on me. The only song on the album I don't really like. The rest of it is great. Bag It Up wasn't bad, but not great at first...now I'm really digging it.

Yeah the ending goes on a bit, they should have changed that or ended the song at about 2:20...

The new album is definitely a grower. The more I listen the better it gets.
I always loved Part of the Queue from the beginning. Mucky Fingers really grew on me though, I couldn't stand it at first but I quite like it now.
I didn't like The Meaning of Soul at first either but it grew on me after seeing it live. The studio version could have been alot better if they'd extended the drum intro.
I actually think DBTT in general though was the opposite to a grower (not sure what the word would be to describe it). I loved it at first but the filler tracks got very boring very quickly imo. DOYS seems the opposite.
