I liked it at first listen, didnt care for the heebeejeebee part.....but NOW I FUCKING LOVE IT
Lyrics:
I actually get it....someone somewhere said it was about drugs, and now I can see there....
I thought it was jibberish like TUTS, but it's not.
"Freak rising from the floor" must suggest the guy is tripping, possibly a bad trip
"Heebeejeebees hidden in a bag" --> This line is GENIUS Yeah, at first it sounds stupid, hence I didn't like it originally. But once you understand the meaning of the line in context with the song, it's monumental
^^What he has in the bag is drugs, and he's calling the drugs "heebeejeebees" because heebeejeebees are fears, and drugs tend to cause fear/paranoia.....
"Someone tell me i'm dreaming" - drug like haze, perhaps?
Two Parts I Really Like:
1.) 3mins: "Bag It Up HIIIIIIIIIIIGH" - it's either the second or third time he sings that part - not sure, think its the third though -- when he sings "HIIIIIGH" that time round, his voice is higher, and it's just amazing
2.) 3:30 --> The drumming outro, the drumming, then the pause, then continue drumming - sounds MEGA
Oasis really know how to kick off albums, don't they:
RNRS, Hello, DYKWIM, FITB, THT, TUTS, BIU.....hell, even the MasterPlan started amazingly with Acquiesce
Out of that list, either Hello or THT is the weakest - probably the latter - but they're all 5/5 songs in their own right. Have that.

i love the last bag it up high part. The outro is epic. THT is the weakest opener for me the rest are 5/5. About the whole drug thing sure whatever its just a great fucking tune.

Nah I like THT....but if I had to pick the worst Oasis opener to an album it would be that one, but I do love it.
THT is about drugs too lol
"I get up, when I'm down" - drugs to cure the problem, getting high when depressed
"I got speed, and I walk on air" - feelings when on drug
"I get so high, I just cant feel it" - self explanatory
"In and out my brain, running through my vein your my sunshine, you're my rain" - again, self explanatory - and I must say, thats a great line
But BIU does shit all over THT without a doubt.

I could never get into THT it has a brilliant chorus but its just so like ugh i don't know its good but its just not up to par with the rest.

Bag It Up is possibly the best track on Dig Out Your Soul. The entire song is classic Oasis! Noel hasn't written a song like it in years. Gets me pumped even though it's about drugs!!!
Liam's voice starting off the song is awesome!
The "heebee jeebees" part is my favorite in the whole song.
Noel is a genius!

Yeah, Bag It Up is just amazing. Amazing from a songwriting perspective as well as just a rocking song. The pre-chorus might be the single best vocal moment for Liam since "Is it myyyyyy Imaginatiiiiiion". "SOMEONE TELL ME I'M DREEEEEAAAAAMMMMMING"! Just incredible... I'm dying that I don't get to hear that moment live.

Monkey Man. Stones reference? The song is fucking fab. The outro is sick. Great way to begin the album. From what I understand, they are not including this in the set list? That's a shame. I hope they change that. **wishful thinking**

My interpretation with the Monkey Man line was with drugs.
You know, if you take psychedelic drugs you question everything.
Where did i come from? Why? etc.
Gonna take a walk with the Monkey Man.. Monkey Man - evolution.
Gonna get a different perception on life.
That's my interpretation anyway..

I really don't understand why they aren't doing this one for the tour. It would kick all kinds of ass as the opener.
Edit: Actually, it should be second. RNRS should open every show.

great tune! it better than turn up the sun and the hindu time.
Dont get me wrong the hindu times is a good tune, yet the production really lets it down! maybe if D.Sardy produced it it could have had more potential. The drums need to be louder and so does the bass!

the bridge or whatever the smone tell me i'm dreaming part is is okay but other than the songs does anything but 'pump' me..whenever it picks up a bit of a drive the melody abruptly changes and i get a uuuh part that just feels out of place.
bit to messy for my taste

Just a great song all over. The opener to any album should be upbeat and exciting, and Bag It Up has all of those qualities. Great, classic Oasis tune.

It's the definition of 'contrived' and 'generic'. It's Noel trying to recreate a RnRS type opener and it falls way short. Not to mention that the riff is a blatant rip off of The Stereophonics' 'Same Size Feet'. When you hear what The Phonics does with the riff, there's no way you can be impressed with THT. By far Oasis' worst opener. And I'm always surprised by how much love it gets around here. I have no idea why . . . |

Yep! Instant favorite of mine! I was hooked the moment I heard the "Gold and silver and sunshine..." line. Great stuff.
Described as Noel as "Him revisiting his past psychadelic acid trips" or something along the lines of that. Said in the Making of Dig Out Your Soul DVD, that the lyrics are complete nonsene. But then again, so was the likes of Supersonic.
The second 'High' part of the song is brilliant!!! I think this song is really the greatest Oasis album opener second to only D'you Know What I Mean? !

Not to mention that the riff is a blatant rip off of The Stereophonics' 'Same Size Feet'. The same riff (yeah, similar), is in ABBA's "Does your mother know?".  About THT...it's been the song with which I felt in love with Oasis (before, it was just "yeah, cool"), when I saw them perform it live in Rome. So, I'm not really neutral about this song.
