FINALLY got the album delivered today. Other than TSOTL and Falling Down singles and a few checks of the 40 second previews, this was my first real listen.
The album starts off with a bang. Bag it Up and The Turning are fucking brilliant. I love I'm Outta Time, very mellow and slows it down. I thought High Horse was going to be a song that wasn't really heavy or anything, sort of like a Digsy's or She's Electric (only based on the title), but I was surely wrong. The song is rocking, and is really good lyrically. Simple but very cool. Falling Down is one of Noel's best, up there with DLBIA, Half the World Away, and Acquiesce. To me, the last few songs of the album aren't AS strong, but still very good. I like TBWTL, it's different but interesting. Ain't Got Nothing Reminds me of The Meaning of Soul. Nature of Reality is OK, and Soldier On.
About Soldier On, I heard something about it being a "Champagne-ish" closer to the album, and therefore I was most excited about listening to that song upon getting the CD. BUT it really isn't. The song sort of builds up to nothing, while I was hoping for a large shift in sound with colossal choruses and vocals and solos, but it was pretty even. BUT just as some have said, I have listened to it about 5 times now, and it is growing on me. It is a good closer for the album, but not what I was expecting.
Now that I have the gist of the album, time to shift to listening to what's gonna be on the US Tour setlist. Anyone have any ideas?

Didn't listen to the album before the release date, except for the 40 sec clips, and a few seconds here and there on myspace. I've listened to it 5 or 6 times now and I am absolutely blown away. I love all the tracks. The Turning, TBWTL, GOYHHL, just all fantastic. Actually almost got chills hearing Soldier On the first time. Listening on the drive home from work today, I actually had an epiphany about the album. I don't get those often, so I was quite surprised. This might be the least positive album by the band yet. It's for sure the most "mature" yet. This is the band that gave us Live Forever, Roll With It, It's Getting Better Man!, Go Let It Out, Let There Be Love ... you get the idea. There is always a huge undercurrent of positivity on an Oasis album ... but I don't hear it on this one. I'm not branding this album negative, though perhaps melancholy is a good word. One of the first things that popped into my head after the first few listens was "soundtrack for the end of the world". All of the references to the rapture, and especially the feel of Falling Down, The Turning and Soldier On. OK, I've rambled enough. But I love this album!

I agree with the "soundtrack for the end of the world bit" but I still think SOTSOG is the most negative feeling album.

Alright. Well, I see where you are coming from. Maybe I am being a bit harsh. BUt I must say that I stand to my initial statements. It is GROSSLY overproduced. It's so evident on TNOR, Soldier On, and in particular Falling Down.
The album is growing on me, but it's also mising a lot, sadly. I'm waiting for some epiphany that will make the second half of the album seem really good. SOmething tells me that's just dreaming
