havent heard the pink song is it any good? a quick wikipedia search tells me that its topping the charts in a ton of different countries at the moment... and its supposedly Pink's "best song yet" or close to it so yea, doesnt surprise me that its no. 1 over TSOTL. Im not gonna diss on Pink or anything... because to be honest Im not very familiar at all with her music (other than about 1-2 songs that were played at the occasional middle/high school dance). But Im guessing the songs decent if you keep an open mind about it. Maybe Ill get around to giving it a listen myself

TSOTL is a great song, def good enough to be a #1 hit. I agree that had this been released a month ago it would have hit #1 with ease. Its the bands fault this isnt a number 1 hit. But hey, its not like it flopped, its a number 3 for cryin out loud

it was beaten by a KOL song that had been in the charts for how many weeks. that pretty disappointing

Another sign of the decline of Western Culture, when a brainless pig-woman hybrid can beat the best Oasis single in years..

come on, if you are an oasis fan since the beginning, you should probably think it's a shame a single as TSOTL...not because of the song, which is great, but because of the b-side and the timing...they should put more new songs on the next ones to be worth buying for fans and the regular kids around... It's totally Oasis' (Noel's) fault, hope they've learnt the lesson...

I think the album will sell well- and that matters more. For sure number 1.

i have said this and will say this again OASIS are not a online sales band!
thats why they ended at #3 (download+physical sales)... TSOTL was #1 on CD sales but when combined with downloads they were #3.
Oasis fans buy CDs not downloads....
DOYS will storm to #1 in the albums chart this week easily! just watch and see. PINK wont even manage any sort of first week sales with her album like Oasis will with DOYS,

Two reasons
1) they released it to radio too long before release date so everbody had ripped it
2)Apparantly Oasis sold around 80,000 copies of their single to people at the same time as they were buying tickets for their UK tour. Unfortunately, and stupidly these pre-sales don't count in the final chart positions. (see NME.com)
It's a good omen as wonderwall never made it to number 1.
The single did its job and publicised the album.
Don't fret too much it doesn't matter really.

I don't think the (lack of) b-side is the problem. 90% of singles are sold digitally nowadays, so they're just individual tracks.
Times have changed. In the CD days Oasis ruled the charts but nowadays every kid is downloading the new Pink song on his/her mobile phone as a ringtone or whatever.
I'm a bit disappointed but honestly, the charts are not as important as they were even a decade ago. Since big shops like Woolworths have quit selling CD singles altogether, buying singles and following the charts is not a national pastime anymore. That's just how it is.

I do like all the woofing about the b-side. If there's an old or sub-standard track, "fucks sake, what are they doing releasing this, lazy bastards." If there's a cracker on I'm Outta Time "fucks sake, what are they doing keeping this back as a b-side, silly bastards."

the reason it's not #1? cos it's shi-ite. however in the end... It doesn't matter, the charts stand for nowt any more. ...thats the truth

To be fair, the charts do matter still, if you're an unsigned band, and you top the charts, of course some power hungry label is going to try and get you to go under them. That's what basically happened with the Arctic Monkeys.
Also, we're in a day and age that more singles are being bought because you have people complaining that only one song is good on the album and that they're paying too much for it. You know, it doesn't help that the music industry is asking for more money, but it is becoming a very demanding industry. Both songwriters and producers are asking for HUNDREDS more than what they used to, and it doesn't help that we have torrents and P2P networks. iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, and all those other sites also want a share of profits for promoting and selling. So that $1.07 that we all pay (well, that's my state tax, some pay more) we're spending per track is going to multiple people.
It might not matter to Noel because, well, he does have 4m in his pocket, and a credit card with a huge limit, but if your music doesn't sell, it hurts everyone. "Oh, I like your song, but I can't afford to buy it, I'll write my own instead", "Oh, your studio is too expensive, I'll look somewhere else", "Our budget isn't big enough to promote ourself in that way", "The single isn't selling, what are we going to do? We have no choice but to split/take a break because we have no money left." If studios don't get the money to run, they don't get their equipment they need, if songwriters don't sell - well, I don't know, if they can't promote themselves, they don't sell, and if they don't sell, they don't make money/and that's what leads to arguments/breaks/and splits.
And remember, records used to be 50 cents on Vinyls, a 50%-100% difference there.

its #3 coz the chart is dominated by popsters and R&B shite! if music listeners and buyers woke up and realised that TSOTL is the best bloody song that has been released this year then it'd be number 1 'til christmas!!

honestly why are you on this forum then? for fucks sake .. and im sorry i have to disagree with you. the pink song is mainly popular because of teenage girls being obsessed with any pop song that's half catchy. congratulations to kings of leon though, top notch band.. although not too sure about their new record.
