On "I'm Outta Time" Noel uses a style of finger-picking Lennon used a shit-load in the late 60's/early 70's called 'travis-picking'. It's mostly audible in the left channel. I've always loved it and wondered when Oasis would use it in a song. It fits in this one. Anyone else notice this?

At the end of 'The Turning' as well... that just sounds like 'Dear Prudence' from the white album.

Thanks to this post I just looked this technique up and can now do it reasonably well.

That isn't Travis picking. Travis picking sounds nothing like that.

Travis picking is used at the end of The Turning. Love Travis picking myself. Lennon used in it in songs such as Julia and Dear Prudence. Travis picking isnt hard once you get the hang out it. I actually have been using it alot for years and wrote alot of songs with that picking, Its very fun

yeah it's the most basic form of picking....it's when you start to put the tricks in a la....don't think twice it's allright that it becomes impressive..also, it's named for merle travis, since his first name hasn't come up yet

Yes sir, Merle Travis style, and I could use a whole side of that shite, as my British friends say. Don't take this wrong, but Oasis are starting to tread in Grateful Dead territory, and I mean that in the best possible way; I mean a band full of artistically inclined, technically proficient musicians all for one and one for all whose maturity and fire in the belly are elevating them to a level of excellence transcendent of the norm. Serious.

LOL "They Finally used travis picking!"
Because we were all just WAITING for this time to come where we would hear Oasis use this style of finger picking! ;D

At the end of 'The Turning' as well... that just sounds like 'Dear Prudence' from the white album. I think it sounds more like 'Mother Nature's Son' myself. I even think the chords are similar or the same (Dm, G/D, D, variation thereof).

I see, but I meant it's a picking-style you can easily associate with Lennon and the Beatles far more than any other and I am shocked it took them over 15 years to use it in a song considering their intense fascination.
