Does it Work or not?
I personally was dreading it when I first read it was there but it just kind of comes and goes, buried within the mix and I think it works quite well.

I like it, it's quite subtle. I was worried it was going to be 30 seconds long and stuck in the middle of the song which would ruin the flow completely, but as it is it works well.

The sample is pointless in my opinion. I would have prefered a decent guitar solo.

"As Churchill said, 'It's every Englishman's inalienable right to live where the hell he likes.' What's it going to do, vanish? It's not going to be there when I get back?"

I don't get why that quote was used. It's got nothing to do with the song. When I first heard it it reminded me of that "2, 3, 4, ignition" bit on the Limp Bizkit cover of Behind Blue Eyes. Eek.

It was his last ever interview, hours before he was gunned down.

It was his last ever interview, hours before he was gunned down. Oh right, that makes it a bit more sentimental.

I tnk the song is more like SCYHO than anything else, but imo this song is better and more heartfelt lennon's last quote only adds to this. you can tell liams true love for lennon

well, it's about freedom then isn't it? Don't see the link with the song, but then I don't get the meaning of the song at all. The freedom to be where there's life was the first thing I thought of. But maybe we're just looking for meanings that aren't there. As usual with oasis songs.
Edit: Oh and to answer the question: If I (we?) don't understand why it's there, I don't think it can be considered as 'working' in the song. It doesn't add anything then, does it?

Lennon ran outta time after that interview. He never got back. Its brilliant. Exactly mate. It's Genius. No, Liam's "out of time". He should have been around in the 60s. That's what the songs is about. He writes songs that "reminds him of when he was young" etc. Let's not get carried away.

One of the cool bits in the song is when the band stops and bass does a riff during the break, this is a song The Beatles would be proud of...The song i've played the most, then Soldier On cus it sounds so different. The song The Turning doesnt fit in my little speakers or headphones going to need a PA system.
