Great great album on the whole, no doubt about it. But lets be frank, if you ever needed a reason to have Noel write 9/10 Oasis songs, see: Ain't Got Nothin, Soldier On, TBWTL, and the Nature of Reality. Do any of these four best any one of Noel's six? Honestly?
It gets blatant as fuck when you hear them all run together at the end.
Give me a break. Andy and Gem are "charged" with coming up with 5 minutes of music in 3 years and this is what they bring to the table? Not that they're awful, but am I crazy for thinking both of them are a clear step below the other half of the record? From our early reviews, it would appear not. Let's not even discuss AGN which is already considered a failure by all but the most goggled Oasis fans. Soldier On is so apathetic I guess I still don't know what to make of it. That's probably not good either.
I think all the non-Noel contributions but I'm Outta Time keep this record from soaring to classic-level.
Now, tell me I'm crazy.

I totally agree. Andy and Gem where there as a stop gap whilst Noel had writer's block. When he's writing as prolifically as this they need to take a step back. And waht the hell is Noel talking about a writer's block for when the last album he claims could've been a triple album and he's leaving off songs like STC and RM for bloody ABWR and KTDA.
There is no need to make a quota just for the sake of it so that they can seem like a democracy when they're not and shouldn't be. Oasis is Noel and Liam. The others are hired hands and should remain so.
There is a clear drop in quality in the second half of the album.
P.S. I love their songs, I really do but it's like comparing gold with bronze. When you could have 11 gold medals why unnecessarily settle for 6 and a couple of bronze, haha. Sure, bronze is good but you could have more.
I would consider these to be good songs but Oasis can do a lot better.

I will say this about AGN, at least they cleaned it up, the drums thunder balls. It ended up a bit better. That screaming bs is still fucking whack though.

I must admit I expect better of Gem than To Be Where There's Life. But I won't hear a bad word said about The Nature Of Reality. And Liam's tunes I have no beef with either.
Goggled? Like fuck I am. Judge these songs on their own merits.

BTW, outside of Liam's vocal, tell me TNOR doesn't sound like it could have been pulled right off one of Metalicas last two records?
seriously.

I've only listened to the first 5 so far... But they are pretty fucking good. Yes they are.

Judge these songs on their own merits. Take it easy, I am. I just don't find a helluva lot of merit in AGN...TNOR is a decent song though, I'm just saying it seems to pale to the first 6 songs on the record.

Judge these songs on their own merits. I tend to agree with you... As far as I'm concerned, they could get rid of Gem and his awful song and I wouldn't care. Andy's Nature Of Reality is an interesting song. I like it. Liam's songs are good. Soldier On might be slightly inferior but I need to listen to it more before I have a definite opinion. Noel's songs are really good with the exception of Get Off Your High Horse which I don't like.

TNOR badly rips off Helter Skelter. Gem and Andy have far more Beatles influence than Noel's songs and they don't face the same kind of insults from the NME.

I think the worst two songs are soldier on and The Nature of Reality. To be Where there's Life is amazing! I just love the groove in the bass guitar and Liams vocals are top! But the second half of the album falls off with exception to the ones I didn't name. Soldier on needs to be a little shorter. TNOR needs to be replaced with Stop the Clocks in my opinion.

TBWTL is forced monotone blandness masquerading as psychedelica.

Why is it that when Robohump says it, everyone disagrees? But when anyone else says it, it's taken as obvious comment?
Anyway, the OP is 100% correct. Andy Bell and Gem Archer are not in the same ballpark as Noel Gallagher as a songwriter and they need to remove their crap from the albums to make way for more Noel songs.

I disagree and will always disagree with your opinion on TBWTL. TBWTL is a good tune in my OPINION. Great lyrics, Great delivery and vocals, and it is a perfect filler to an album full of psychedelia or "The Groove". Someone please back me up on this one!

i think TBWTL is a good tune. the beat and bass riff + "dig out your soul" moment is awesome. and Soldier on is pretty awesome too. i love the singing melody.

Honestly, cuz you tend to come off over the top a lot of times, and it weakens your valid points. I haven't read everything you've posted, but from the little I did, I would say that your crticisms (like the 2nd half nosedive) are considerably harsher than my own. I stil think the album is A-/B+ territory, and I seriously doubt you'd get anywhwere near that. The 6-7 positives on the record are massive and even the letdowns are not chasmic...cept perhaps AGN and it's really less than two minutes anyway. Just sayin'.

It's a bit harsh to say he's gone over the top. Music is subjective. Everyone thinks differently. If he thinks it nosedived then it did.

I didn't say he's gone over the top...I said his opinions and his presentation are over the top many times. I don't think you'd find a lot of people on this board who would disagree with that. It's nothing personal.
