Bag It Up 9.5 The Turning 9.5 Waiting for the Rapture 9.5 The Shock of the Lightning 8.5 I'm Outta Time 9 (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady 7.5 Falling Down 9 To Be Where There Is Life 9.5 Ain't Got Nothin' 8.5 The Nature of Reality 8 Soldier On 7
Have to say I think the first 5 songs are great, as strong for an opening 5 songs as any Oasis album.
(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady and The Nature of Reality seem like filler to me, but very very good filler at that.
While as a stand alone song I don't think Soldier On is that great, as a closing song I think it's fantastic and the last minute or so of the song is epic.
I must say I'm pleased they kept Ain't Got Nothin'. It's a very good song, in comparison with Meaning of Soul it's 10 times better. I guess the only reason it gets stick is because the majority want the flag waving anthems that were leaked on demo with this one.

Yeah, hate to be negative, but Be Here Now shits all over this album. A year from now this album is gonna be like DBTT for me. Listen a couple songs and bored by the rest.

Robohump, go fuck yourself you elitist prick. Oasis aren't one of my favourite bands anymore, but they've produced a great record which has a tonne more depth than Be Here Now - and I love Be Here Now. Believe it or not, some people have musical tastes that don't revolve around power chords.
You can have an opinion, but you can't tell other people what to think.

The Nature of Reality its top notch - 10/10 To Be Where There's Life good stuff 10/10 And Liam's "I'm Outta Time" WOW!!!! 22/10!! The Two Noel sung ones Waiting For The Rapture and High Horse Lady - Not too sure about......but one thing for sure its certainly not a britpop album - its completely miles about from that!! Well maybe Shock of the Lighting keeps the brit poppers happy - anyone know what they are called - begins with a C LOL - Sorry humor myself (p.s. its not the C word)

Robo, you've immensely ignored TBWTL. Seriously. Its THE groove. Dig Out Your Soul Robohump.
But saying that, you like 50% of a NEW oasis album. That's a miracle.

First impressions:
Bag it up is a really good song, as is Falling Down which we'd already heard. I'm Outta Time is a bit too short imo, but I suppose the sign of a good song is a one that leaves you wanting more. It reminds me of Stop crying your heart out. Credit to Liam, he's written a very good song there.
The Turning, High Horse and The Rapture seem good on first listen but lack a certain kick if you know what I mean. I'll listen a few more times before judging. Can't make my mind up on Soldier On either, on one hand I think it worked really well, but on the other I can see me getting bored of it very quickly. This years Better Man.
The rest of the album however... All seems much of a muchness.
I think it sounds decent on first listen, although I was hoping it would see a definitive change in style as promised, rather than a slightly improved DBTT. At the minute I'd say it was better than SOTSOG and Heather Chemistry, but on par with DBTT.

i know you're all going to say, it's 2008, and bands have to change their sound etc.
but this album, just isn't anywhere near as good as their older stuff. this is not because of the different sounds or anything; but i honestly think that these songs won't be remembered, like the others are.
i've only given the album a brief listen, and i hope i'm wrong; but it just isn't doing anything for me yet.

AGN is GREAT! But I love the leaked version more. It was a bit more exciting. Everything is at least really fucking good so far. I've only got to TNOR, which sounds cool so far. I'll have to rate them after a couple listens. So far, as an album I'm saying 9/10.

Damn it I caved and downloaded the leak. I just put it on after burning it as a gapless CD at incredible decibels.
The first SEVEN tracks blew my fucking mind! The last three were a big let down... TBWTL is ok but not using guitars just for the sake of not using them was idiotic, because the choruses could have rocked. The last three tracks are basically bad songs. The Turning is one of the best Oasis songs of all time and Bag It Up is right up there... absolute classics. The production is in another world from DBTT... I take back all the horrible things I said about D. Sardy.
Bag It Up - 9 The Turning - 10 Waiting For The Rapture - 7 The Shock Of The Lightning - 7 I'm Outta Time - 9 High Horse - 7 Falling Down - 7 To Be Where There's Life - 6 Ain't Got Nothin' - 2 The Nature Of Reality - 5 Soldier On - 3

I think people are desperate to like it, rather than listening with an open mind. It was the same with DBTT. It's not a bad record, it's just not particularly brilliant.

Bag It Up - 7/10 The Turning - 8/10 Waiting For The Rapture - 10/10 The Shock of the Lightning - 6/10 I'm Outta Time - 6/10 High Horse Lady - 5/10 (if this had more lyrics it would be a classic) Falling Down - 8/10 To Be Where There's Life - 7/10 Ain't Got Nothin' - 6/10 (Noel doesn't do the falsetto harmony, which is all I liked) The Nature of Reality - 5/10 (too much jamming, not enough singing, but I do like the melody) Soldier On - 5/10 (needs more lyrics and melody)
Disappointing record... Noel has some stunners but overall it leaves a lot to be desired. Liam just isn't cutting it as a songwriter. If Noel cleaned up his tunes they'd be great, but right now they need more lyrics and melody- and this goes for I'm Outta Time as well. Honestly, it sounds like an ELO tune and they do it way better.
Waiting For The Rapture is the best song on here, IMO. Shock Of The Lightening needs some cleaning up, but it has clever chords.
