so regardless of what anyone thinks of the shock of the lightning (which i think will be amazing on real speakers up loud) i think we all agree liam is sounding ace. his voice is really soaring and not croaky and stale. love hearing him sing this way. let me know your thoughts.

He definitley sounds great on this track. I think Liam did something to make his voice better, because i was reading a thread earlier of a person who was at their gig the other day and he said Liams voice was spot on, pronouncing words really good, and hell He actually sang Slide Away!

There is certainly no vocoder on Liam's voice.... it's very compressed so the loud and quiet bits are all the same volume... giving it a very smooth sound. Sardy or Noel may have discussed his overly raspy tone as well because it is much more Be Here Now sounding in terms of clarity...

I heard he was having vocal lessons and just generally working on it. Looks like it's paid off.

Liams voice is absolutely amazing on TSOTL. I really couldnt believe that he could sound this great 2008!
Listen to Lyla, then THT and then TSOTL.
Which Liam do you prefer? obviously TSOTL-Liam.
I just hope that he sounds good on the other songs on the album as well.
Having in mind that he sound good on GGTIA but really bad on most other songs on DBTT.

Liams a tuff cookie and I think he knew what was being said about his voice so he has stepped up 2 the plate and quit the fags and got some vocal lessions..he's also running and stayin in shape. He knows that when he's on point there isn't anyone who can touch him. Period.

Some of the gigs from the DBTT tour I just can't watch because of Liam's voice. One that springs to mind is Beunos Aires Argentina 2006. His voice was simply awful at that gig, partly because they'd been on tour for about a year at that point, but someone who was at the resent gig said his voice is back to SOTSOG era. (which was in my opinion some of Liam's best vocal esp. the Yokohama and Jool's Holland gigs) If this is true I'd be very happy. Let's hope so....

He knows that when he's on point there isn't anyone who can touch him. Period. I think you're right. I mean Liam would NEVER say it publicly, but he had to be embarrassed after listening back to himself on the last tour. Sure he had flashes of the old Liam, but he had regressed drastically. Obviously we haven't heard him live yet, but after reading how great his voice was at that private show, I'm starting to believe. Not to mention, he wouldn't have even attempting to sing Slide Away on the last tour as he did the other night. I'm sure he didn't quit smoking, but there's no question he worked with a vocal coach during his time off, Plus didn't Noel basically tell him after they played the Brits last year that he better get his shit together or there wouldn't be a next album? Probably Noel's way of pissing Liam off, but maybe, just MAYBE Liam listened?

i don't think they used any form of autotune bollocks. it's just a massive improvement over the last few years.
that being said, we've only heard 2 verses and a chorus/bridge thing from him.
really does sound like it coulda been recorded back in '97.

i think his vocals are always awesome in studio... I had no complains regarding the albums versions... the problem is the live performances... I'd say he sounded spot on in DBTT, but he was awful on tour...
was just wondering, Noel played Slide Away half a tone down during the STC tour, they are probably doing the same with guitars now.... maybe even dropping a hole tone...

Liam even admitted himself that his voice sounded like crap recently in that Times interview and he quit the smoking and boozing every night so he can sustain his voice

He does indeed sound much better than before (his worst studio moment was probably Keep the Dream Alive, which is still a good song). If he can really sing Slide Away again, I hope they play it when/if they come to Chicago.

I've said this already in a similar thread but I'll say it again here: Let's not go beserk over how he sounds in TSOTL. I remember when Lyla came out, everyone was going nuts over how great Liam sounded. But than the album came out and Liam was really inconsistent throughout. Lyla was clearly one of his best vocals on DBTT.
I'm not saying he's going to be inconsistent, shit, or good on DOYS. All I'm saying is that it is way too early to judge how his vocals will sound. It's just one song and it's the lead single at that . . .

However asleigh who has heard the album made me happy. On the answer how Liam sounded he answers: "Do you mean on the cd or live? live he sounds alot better and for the first time in a while he was pronoucing the words alot clearer. on the record he sounds just like he does on tsotl on the rest of it which is good imo" live4ever.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=2008tour&action=display&thread=48572&page=2I still wanna hear it before I believe it though. Reviews of DBTT said that Liam sounded good there as well (which I think is a complete lie).
