''While we're living.. the dreams we had as children fade away'' While this lyric is usually interpreted in a negative sense, it can also be viewed in a positive one ie. the dreams are fading because we're living them, and so they fade into reality And line and indeed bridge before it ''we only get what we will settle for'' sets up this thought process perfectly, ''dream it while you can maybe someday i'll make you understand'' You'll understand when your lifes brilliant... Overall it's a bunch of really positive lyrics dealing with overcoming adversity

No, in the context of the song its negative. The line can be interpreted isolated, but as a whole in context its negative. Sometimes I wonder if you spend too much time nature walking and not enough time studying.

Come on man, you're smarter than th........wait......nevermind...

It's not necessarily negative, it's just melancholic.
I saw them w/ the Black Crowes in 01' and they played this - blew my face right off.....

I know it's meant to be melancholic but i like the possibility of there being an undercurrent of joy in the song ''now my life has turned another corner''

Yeah, you could take that line either way. Depends on where you're head is at when you hear it I guess.
Fade Away is definitely a top 20 track for me. That's obvioulsy saying a lot too, to get into a top 20 Oasis list.
Warchild Version is better though, IMO. Liam's background vox are key, and sound great on it.
Who is that girlish voice that sings 'Fade Away' a few times at the end? Is that Lisa Moorish? It sounds ROOBISH......

I can't believe I'm even give this thread this much attention, but oh well. It's a great song, with great lyrics. Although the lyrics are pretty straightforward I thought, but never mind.....
When I was young I thought I had my own key I knew exactly what I wanted to be Now I'm sure You've boarded up every door
--> Negative: "boarded up every door" negates the notion he "knew exactly what he wanted to be" ie, all his opportunities are now closed to him.
Lived in a bubble Days were never ending Was not concerned about what life was sending Fantasy was real Now I know much About the way I feel
--> Negative: Contrasting the positive aspects of childhood (which he is reminiscing about) with the negative aspects of adulthood - When you're a child you don't care about anything, you live happy and care free, ignorance is bliss, etc....but now that he's older he knows how he feels meaning he has despairs and concerns, something that a child wouldn't know or even think about.
I'll paint you the picture 'Cause I don't think you live round here no more I've never even seen the key to the door We only get what we will settle for
While we're living The dreams we have as children Fade away
--> Negative: Going in context that childhood was bliss and growing up sucks, this is a negative line. The dreams of childhood (ie, see above analysis + the notion of endless possibilities) have now faded away, everything is now bleak.
Now my life has turned another corner I think it's only best that I should warn you Dream it while you can Maybe someday I'll make you understand
--> INCREDIBLY Negative: Life has turned another corner (from childhood into adulthood), and dream it while you can meaning that your childhood dreams dont and wont last forever, so make the most of it while you still can.
However, I don't think ugottahave fun understands.....
So, how is this positive?

So, how is this positive? obviously that's the way it is on primary level, delve deeper subconciously, it never brings a tear to your eye does it, always smiles... I see you failed to comment on the ''paint you the picture''. ie he's showing the people ''who boarded up every door'' this is what you do,i'm going to be the one doing the verb, and what about the most positive in your face lyric of ''we only get what we will settle for'' Anyway ''now my life has turned another corner'' refers to the life where ''you boarded up every door'', he's in adulthood yes but he's making a go of it, after an intial stumbling block. Sound familiar yes ofcourse, noel and liam in the thatcher era, on the dole but now in a rock n roll band...OASIS Dream it while you can could referance that when you're in adulthood, you can draw from your childhood inspirations and make them a reality in your later years ie make them fade away.

All i know is that when liam sings it , he's singing it from my point of view. This discussion just shows how good a song-writer noel gallagher is...
