When you play Oasis to your mates, what are their reactions to the music? Do they generally respond with apathy? Or positively? Or perhaps think that it is shit?

You goto any bar in my area (philadelphia) and if wonderwall or DLBIA or CS comes on the jukebox, most will sing along...if I play fcking in the bushes, they tell me how awesome the movie Snatch is...

Well, I've been a fan since 94! I was 13 years old, my favorite band was Pearl Jam. But I was watching 120 minutes one night, and 'Fat' Matt Pinfield had a special on Oasis. So I bought the album and was fookin' madferrit ever since. Anyhoo. Then in college in 2000, my friends of course all knew them from the big hits of the mid 90's, but I started getting back into them pretty hardcore. Evertime I had friends over, and and drinking involved; cue the Oasis. DM, MG, BHN. To this day, my friends ALL love Oasis because of me. And anytime there's some sort of festive acitivity involving booze or a party, it's expected that we'll be blaring the boys and singing along wasted, annoying many people in the process. So I guess to answer your question, me ol' friends are all fookin' MADFERRIT!!!!

everytime i put oasis on at a party i'm at on an ipod or something, everybody despises it. Usually it will get changed midway through the tune, and results in me getting into an argument with whoever changes it.

With hannah montana, the jonas brothers, and some american idol ruling the charts, everyone here is brainwashed to believe that THAT is good music. Music is based on how many lunchboxes you can sell with the band logo on them. Because of that, Oasis is respected here, but not seen as a successful band.
And for all of you who are upset Oasis is only giving us a remix on the B-side, you are likely the same fans that complained that Oasis should have held a few B-sides back to make BHN or SOTSOG better. I am not saying i want Oasis to be more popular in the US, but it would have helped a lot if the average US fan heard songs like Masterplan, Acquiesce, Whatever, Stay Young, Rockin chair, Underneath the sky, and Let's all make believe.
I can definitely understand your frustration, but as long as they continue making music, then why complain? If they don’t think a track is finished (or 40 tracks), why give up on the track and throw it in as a b-side (especially songs with great potential like RM or STC)? We will have more great music in a few weeks and won’t think twice about the SOL b-side.

All my friends like it if I play it around them (mostly the old stuff). The newer stuff like HC and DBTT confuse them too much.

So I bought the album and was fookin' madferrit ever since. Ya know its weird I have met alot of Pearl Jam/Oasis fans, i once saw a Manchester City jersey at a pearl jam gig (I thought I had entered bizarro world), I am not really a big Pearl Jam fan, my husband is, plus a huge Oasis fan on stop of it, its so weird, they just seem so anti each other lol, but then again they were the two biggest band of 90s generation. Anyways my friends are weird, and certainly not typical, I go to parties and random Oasis song will come on (like b-sides and things), as well as seeing random people wearing Oasis tees. There is even a story going round about one of our friend SLEEPING (he was drinking all day) through an Oasis gig....they asked him afterwards what he thought and he was like "Oh Roll with it was great" and of course they turned away and it occurred to them that they didn't play roll with it! Poor guy he was really excited for the gig too!!

I like to expose my friends to Oasis in small bites at a time rather then overwhelming them all at once. Whether it's having friends over for a party and plugging the surround sound into my iTunes on shuffle, or riding around in my car with my iPod plugged in with some friends in the backseat, I always try to work an Oasis song in that they probably haven't heard of before. Most people enjoy it, and most of my friends here at college and back home like Oasis and know most of the hits. Of course most Americans don't pay as close attention to Oasis as we on this forum do (but then again, most people don't pay really close attention to a single band), but most people who I encounter very much likes them. I take pride that I've helped spread their music around haha.
Enough time has passed since their persona from the mid-90s (the drunken, fighting brothers) that people are looking back fondly on the hits here in the US. Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, and DLBIA always draw great reactions in a bar. Most of my friends are in love with 90s music in general, being that we all grew up with it, and Oasis is a part of that generation, despite the fact they weren't HUGE here. Basically, if the band was better promoted here in the US right now and got some higher profile plugs/positive reviews, I think they'd land a top 10 album.

I have a battle of the bands between 2 of my best mates. Obviously I rep Oasis, they rep U2 so I'm outnumbered. However, both have said that WTSMG is a great album, and both have conceded on many other songs. The one friend is very stubborn, so I think he likes them more then I'm led to believe, while the other friend tends to like anthems more than rock (cue The Fray, Keane, Coldplay ), so he's never going to like DM, BHN, or apparently DOYS. Either way, the battle has gone on now since 7th grade - almost 8 years lol, and I still proclaim that Oasis are better than U2. (Although, just as they have done with Oasis, I have admitted I liked a few U2 songs - Sunday Bloody Sunday, Sweetest Thing.....but let's be honest here, Vertigo is shit). When I began college I have found many people who list "Oasis" on their facebook for fav music. While they aren't hardcore fans, the fact that they placed them there is significant. My other college friends - who are all in to rap (big surprise there, fucking yanks) - just kind of tune out when I rant to them about how great Oasis is yada yada yada. My friend even created a facebook group just today called "B, No more Oasis", which has 4 people in it - most curiously my sister who wasn't invited but stumbled upon the group by herself lol. But yeah, I think Oasis are well respected in the US. People don't go crazy about them, nor do they tend to care too much, but the average rock listener seems to respect them - at least their early work. I don't buy into this "Cult" image a lot of you portray. It's too big to be a cult. Cults don't sell out every venue in the US, nor get the albums to #12 in the charts. I think the problem actually lies with the state of music in the US and the demographic targeted. Rap dominates the US, and has done for this decade. Other than rap, you have the pop tarts - Fall Out Boy, Miley, Keane, etc who appeal to girls and young teens. Rock barely exists in the US, so I dont think you can fault Oasis for not being big (although their bad boy image and reputation of walking off tours in the 90s didn't help). Better promotion for Oasis will help fix that, but so will the shift from rap to rock as the predominate musical choice - whenever that occurs.

I agree with the poster who said we don't know music. Hanna Montana, a disney boyband, and rappers rule the charts. Once in a while you head a noisey wanna be punk band.
Still everyone i know has been subjected too, and enjoys oasis. My family is prolly familiar with every song off of every album, and the Bsides

I don't play them for mates or friends, cause I'm 30 and married with a kid, but I'll answer the perception question at least.
Because, there was a time, back in 1995 when I was 17 and about to head off to college/university and they were moderately popular here. They opened up the new indoor arena in Philadelphia in, I think, 1996 with Manic Street Preachers. They were and still are, I think, popular in the Philadelphia region / NY / DC.
I think if you told most people the band was still together now, they wouldn't believe you. They get decent airplay on satellite radio, but as alt-rock stations (where they'd get most of their play here) have mostly dried up across the country, save a few large ones, there's little to no exposure.
The AT&T commercial last year with All Around the World was probably the most people had heard from them in 10 years.
But, I think there's a fairly respectable fanbase that does pay attention and does buy the albums, but I think most are probably in the 21-30 range and have stayed with them. I don't think the younger population really knows they exist. The new young kids, the ones that drive capitalism and record buying and all that were barely even born when Wonderwall hit.

My family is prolly familiar with every song off of every album, and the Bsides That's because older fans usually illegally download most of their favorite music off the internet (Limewire, etc.), whereas most youths (well, probably their parents) buy their music; which happens to be Hannah Montana, Jonas Bros., Super Mario Bros...etc. etc/.
