Noel has become too lazy... THE SHOCK OF THE LIGHTNING - SINGLE DETAILS 11 August 2008 Oasis return with the first single from their forthcoming seventh studio album, ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ on 29th September. ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’, is regarded by principal song-writer Noel Gallagher as one of the band’s most instant songs “because it was written dead fast. And recorded dead fast. ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ basically is the demo. And it has retained its energy. And there’s a lot to be said for that, I think. The first time you record something is always the best.” The eagerly awaited new album is released on 6th October on the band’s own Big Brother label across the world. The B-side to the single is the sought after Chemical Brothers remix of ‘Falling Down’, another song from ‘Dig Out Your Soul’. The Chemical Brothers remix is a psychedelic, acid-tinged take of the track which has been climbing club and radio charts after Big Brother sent it to a handful of DJ’s around the world. This is the first time an Oasis single has been backed with a remix and fans purchasing downloads of ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ via the band’s own web site at Oasisinet or www.itunes.co.uk will also have the option of buying the video for the single. This is only available via those two web portals. A strictly limited edition 7" vinyl collector’s box will be made available separately for fans from both Oasisinet.com and select retailers to enable fans to collect all the 7" singles from the forthcoming album campaign. All formats are as follows: CD: ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ / ‘Falling Down’ (Chemical Brothers remix) 7”: ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ / ‘Falling Down’ (Chemical Brothers remix) iTunes / Oasisinet EXCLUSIVE: ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ / ‘Falling Down’ (Chemical Brothers remix) / ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ video.

To the general population, Falling Down remix is a 'new' song, as they wouldn't have downloaded it.
So it's your own fault really.

Said this in the other thread, but's it's fucking rubbish.
They leaked the remix on purpose! ONE B-side that they know all the fans (i.e. the only mugs who buy singles these days) will already have.
Shit.

That's really poor if true. It would cost an artist nothing really to throw on a couple of songs that otherwise would sit on the cutting room floor. Even demo's. They've used demo's before, and they've thrown awful songs on there in the recent past to make up the numbers (Sitting Here In Silence On My Own, Won't Let You Down, The Quiet Ones). So it's kind of surprising. Obviously as a fan I'll buy it anyway but would a curious consumer walk into HMV or Virgin and pay for a single with two songs?

Strange. If your search for the single on recordstore.co.uk there's two b-sides actually:
1. The Shock Of The Lightning 2. Falling Down (Chemical Brothers Remix) 3. The Orangutan & The Pink Rifle

It's a fucking piss take no matter how you dress it up, especially when you consider the amount of unreleased songs that are floating around. I wonder if they're holding back some of the better B-sides for the "super deluxe" album release?

Only a single b-side? They're supposed to have tons of songs lying around aren't they?

Yeah, it's totally a bush-league, amateurish move.
I'd rather they put a couple unheard Liam-penned stinkers on there than a remix.

well this is a first for oasis, over the years they gave us excellent b-sides, was so exciting getting a oasis single (even though we know the song) as the other 2 or 3 songs were "new" but for some reason they have done this, quite dissapointed

This is ridiculous... They've been doing less and less proper b-sides, and now they don't even include a single track aside from a remix? This is a fucking travesty... there hasn't been hardly any "good" b-sides since Be Here Now aside from one or two, and now, nothing! If they have so many songs and spent 6 months doing the record how can they not have b-sides? AHHHH!

I wonder if they're holding back some of the better B-sides for the "super deluxe" album release? i bet they are, i think that's why they're not bothering with the dvd singles that had the demo's on aswell, it'll probably all go on a second cd with the super deluxe version. it's shit really, i was expecting at least 2 b-sides.

This is truly ridiculous and insanely lazy. For a band with a near limitless budget and supposedly near 100 songs they can't give us even a shitty demo of someone singing in the fucking shower?
I hate feeling negative towards the band because i've followed them so long, but fucking hell.

the only people that will prolly buy it are the ones that collect all of the singles Cuz seriously, all of us already have the remix. And all of us will have TSOTL when it comes out on the album. So whats the point in buying the single? The artworks certainly not worth the price... Yea no way in hell I'll be buying it. And there better be some damn good shit on that 2nd disc on the Super Special Edition... or else that $200 price tag is the biggest fucking joke in the world.

I'm really disappointed to know that we're getting short changed in terms of b-sides.
It makes sense though if you look at it in terms of selling records. They know the first single is going to sell well because it is the first one in a long while, and it well go to number 1 regardless of what b-sides are on. It would help the later singles to load them up with other b-sides to make them more marketable. I'm not trying to justify this but it's another way to look at it.

Hopefully you're right, and we get flooded with quality b-sides later on. This could be a bit of wishful thinking, but fingers crossed and mape! that is a friggin cool picture in your sig. Whered you find it?

You guys should all really chill on the "lazy" rhetoric and that sort of thing. I am not happy with this as well, but I think that this decision for this singles b-sides was made as it is because the Chemical Brothers' name is attached to this particular remix. It gives that remix a lot more weight than DJ Poopsteak would.
If the next singles b-side is only a 2003 live acoustic Wonderwall, shaft them all you want, Ill join you, but I think this single and the song they included as a b-side is a bit different.
The Chemical Brothers are no slouch in sales or in name, making it the only b-side on this single gives them a lot more pull.

The remix was intentionally released, and has been played on various radio stations.
So anyone saying you shouldn't have downloaded the leak are talking crap.
Am i supposed to turn off the radio from now on incase i hear any songs before they're released.
I could understand them releasing the remix a bit more if there was a 2nd b-side.
But have always though band lazy released live versions and remixes as b-sides.
