It's been argued amongst historians that if slide away was released in live forever's stead it would've gone on and been bigger worldwide and commercially. Discuss

I agree it should've been a single, but not in place of Live Forever...that's just stupid.

Well. It could have been a 5th single but Noel refused. I agree but, I think Oasis would have been bigger had Slide Away been a single over Cigarettes and Alcohol or Shakermaker, not to take anything from those 2. But if that album could only be 4 singles...
Rock N Roll Star Supersonic Live Forever Slide Away
Fuckin epic right there.

But then where's the song for the fans? Huh?? Slide Away is regarded to the ''one for the fans'' ie a really great song which only people who've bought the album would've heard of. Andy Bell talks about it on the DM dvd

Im surprised Cigs and Alc charted higher than the other singles though... seems like that one wouldnt be as "radio-friendly".

Andy Bell talks about it on the DM dvd I'll live without "one for the fans" if it means they'd be a bigger band. It's frustrating knowing all these great songs when no one else does

Moving on from this idea...have oasis always made the correct decisions regaring singles. What would you have changed? Yes they have basically. I would make my above changes to DM. MG and BHN have the right songs as singles. So do HC and DBTT. For SOTSOG it would be Go Let It Out, Gas Panic!, Where Did It All Go Wrong, maybe Roll It Over. EDIT: Let's All Make Believe as a single after Gas Panic! could have kept Oasis more popular worldwide, but thats a whole other debate.....

Moving on from this idea...have oasis always made the correct decisions regaring singles. What would you have changed? If I were Noel... I woulda done the following Def. Maybe- 1. Supersonic 2. RnR Star 3. Live Forever 4. Slide Away WTSMG- 1. Some Might Say 2. Morning Glory 3. Wonderwall 4. DLBIA 5. Champagne Supernova Be Here Now- 1.DYKWIM 2. Stand By Me 3. Don't Go Away 4. AATW Masterplan- 1. Acquiesce 2. The Masterplan SOTSOG- 1. Go Let It Out 2. Where Did It All Go Wrong 3. Gas Panic 4. Roll It Over Heathen Chemistry- 1. The Hindu Times 2. SCYHO 3. Little By Little 4. Songbird Dont Believe the Truth- 1. Lyla 2. TIOBI 3. Guess God Thinks I'm Abel 4. Keep the Dream Alive That's just based on what songs I think would have seen the most radio play and done the best commercially. As you can see, a lot of the songs end up staying the same, so yea, Oasis has done a pretty good job in my opinion. Btw... I dont like the idea of releasing some songs "exclusively" in some parts of the world. Like releasing Don't Go Away "exclusively" to Japan (according to wiki) ? I don't understand that. And the whole double A side thing doesnt really seem important anymore, since very few people actually buy radio singles nowadays.

i always thought that live forever got the single nod due to the more unique sentiments/message and form (ie no traditional chorus)

Noel mentioned in the DM DVD that Slide Away is even more special because it's "not a single" and "you need something like that for the fans"
Look, I really don't give a shit anymore about Oasis' worldwide popularity. Why? Because they ARE THE BIGGEST BAND (along with U2) and BIGGER THAN COLDPLAY (no matter what that fool Supersonic thinks) in the world, and have been since the 90s. The only place where they aren't THAT big is the US, but they're still pretty damn big there too (WTS did incredibly well, DBTT reached #12, and I bet that DOYS will crack the top 10). Slide Away being a single wouldn't have changed anything. What matters is what I, and I alone think. Fuck you, fuck the critics, fuck Supersonic and his unusual hard-on for Coldplay. Oh, and fuck yet another shite thread by you.
Furthermore, almost everything off of DM could have been a single, where do you draw the line?
