bring on the ridiculing Lennon idolatry commentary...
thing is, how is this any different than the non-stop/nauseating, sampling and "shout-outs" that are almost incessant with hip-hop/rap?

Oh and the thing that irks me in hip-hop/rap is mainly that the 'rapper' has to constantly remind you who he is. I mean, imagine if at the start of Don't Look Back in Anger, Noel just shouted "NOEL GALLAGHER! OASIS! YEEEEEEEEEEEUH!" it would be stupid. And before the drum bit he shouted "WHITAAAAAAAY!" WTF.

Well, I have to say it: the Lennon idolatory is getting OTT. I don't consider hip-hop doing something making it okay.

Well, I have to say it: the Lennon idolatory is getting OTT. I don't consider hip-hop doing something making it okay. of course it doesn't make it "okay" for you and 90% of the population. But you can bet many critics who overlook it (or even praise it) in their "critique" of hip hop albums will chide Oasis for it. its all but guaranteed, no matter how poignant it is.

The fuck are you lot talking about? The sample of Lennon is of him talking at the start. They don't mix him into the music in some way and bears no resemblance to Hip Hop.

So they'll probably get slammed for the Lennon sample, more so in the US than the UK I'd imagine. Of course, Green Day cover Working Class Hero and sample the original with Lennon vocal at the end and it's a fitting tribute.
What you gonna do?

Well, most Americans think Oasis are Beatles rip off artists anyway, so this will only add to that stereotype. When I first heard about the Lennon tribute I just thought they were bringing it on themselves, which is where this whole comparison started in the first place. Noel even said once that it's partly their fault for going on so much about the beatles when they first came onto the scene.
But fuck it. I love both bands, and if its a good song its a good song.

What I hate is tracks that have talking - it comes off as sounding cheesy, and tends to be cringe worthy. A lot of American pop bands do it - latest one being Weezer at the end of their "Greatest Man" track on their new album.
I have yet to see talking in a music track pulled off, but hey, We Trust in Noel (to make the right decisions) so we'll see....but i can't say that I'm excited to hear that as we stand now......

Actually now that you mentioned it, I remember that the MSP had a song about Nixon where they included a voice from Nixon - which worked, and it was my idea to use it in a group project in my Nixon/Speech Writing in the White House class (which, of course, got an A ) So yeah, i take back my previous post...if done right, it can work. So lets hope for the best....

How the hell do we know WHEN it appears in the song? Was this in the NME interview too? All I saw was that it was in there somewhere.

Nah I'm only saying common sense tells us it will be talking at the start or the end. There hardly gonna do a kanye west and sample a John Lennon bit and sped it up and use it for the chorus or some shit. The clip of Lennon won't have any great impact on the tune or really be a part of the tune if you know what im saying? It'll just be a clip of him saying whatever and not interfering with the music. I don't know that for a fact of course but like I said thats what it more than likely will be.
