It is, i never play it. WTS MG DM B-sides excluding those from DBTT TM SOTSOG Little by Little, SCYHO is all you need. And if you're true with yourselves you'll agree. Oh BHN had to be made to enhance the myth of oasis but you don't really need it Agreed. Kinda.

Turn Up The Sun - Sounds like Andy's attempt at Oasis-by-numbers. Mucky Fingers - Good melody but ruined by the Velvet Underground aping. Lyla - Poppy, decent enough, but not great by Oasis standards as a first single. Love Like A Bomb - Not bad, nice enough melody, just too twee and underwhelming for an Oasis song. Sounds like something they should be writing in 15 years time. The Importance of Being Idle - I don't like it at all but I can appreciate the fact that it's a very well-written song. The Meaning of Soul - A pretty good short and sweet rock n' roller. Guess God Thinks I'm Abel - See: Love Like A Bomb Part of The Queue - Such a Golden Brown rip-off that I can never take it seriously. Keep The Dream Alive - Middle of the road middle of the road middle of the road middle of the road middle of the road middle of the road middle of the road. A Bell Will Ring - My favourite from the album. The riff sounds great. Probably one of maybe two tracks from the album that I'd miss slightly if they never existed. Let There Be Love - A stereotypical Oasis ballad that never quite hits the mark.
An honary mention goes to the B-side Pass Me Down The Wine, the second best song Liam's ever written, behind Songbird.

DBTT is a good album...don't really like LLAB though, sounds very messy.
POTQ is great, my favourite track from that record.

DBTT is crap. Deal with it. You all just like the idea of a return to form. All the albums have become progressively worse since the first three (which I love equally). SOTSOG is absolutely fantastic, leave it alone. And HC is incredibly inconsistent (half of it is unbelieveably good) but the lows are nowhere near the very consistent (you all use this word to describe it) low of DBTT. I can't even listen to it any more, no songs on that album would make b-sides on any other. If anything it was a sellout album to get some airplay. Poppy nonsense, no edge whatsoever. If Scouting for Girls had written lyla, which I'm suspicious they did, none of you would like it. Fair enough to those people that say they got into this album first, but to me it's a different band to the arrogant rock stars I fell in love with. Even the lyrics are an absolute disaster. POTQ is my favourite but is he seriously talking about being stuck in a shopping queue or was he joking when he said that. To sum up: Those of you who got into this album first have fell in love with a different band. Those of you who were here back then but still call this number four or higher in their list of favourites are sheep and need to make up their own mind instead of liking what you are told to like and almost quoting some of the stuff you read from the nme all over the forum. I am sick of these appreciation threads!

nah...my first tune from Oasis was Live Forver... it was so infectious... i couldn't stop humming it... but i never bought the CD at the time... not until Wonderwall took the states by storm... did i realize these guys were for real... after that, i almost died traveling to Circuit City in winter conditions in 95 to purchase Morning Glory... and not until a year later purchased Definitely Maybe... which blows me away... Columbia, Supersonic, Slide Away... imo > Live Forever...
but after that... I was having it man... went to best buy on release date... i think August to pick up Be Here Now, which i love too... i fucken hate Pdiddy, puffy, diddy, whatever he goes by for beating out Oasis for # 1 that week... any who... rambling.

I wouldn't say I'm just into albums from the glory days though. Am I the only one that really likes SOTSOG? Now that was a clever change in direction without sacrificing songwriting. DBTT was not a change i direction at all, just production, all they did was turn the amps down!
P.S. You all call DBTT a stepping stone as well (I have no idea how anyone can say that without having heard the new album yet) but if anything SOTSOG was. Without putting little james on the album he wouldn't have continued writing and we wouldn't have some fine songs today. Mainly BOADC...

DBTT is an oddity of a record for me. There are moments (TIOBI and POTQ) that for me bring me back to when Oasis could do no wrong and are still regular listens for me, but there are other moments (Lyla, LTBL) that are as contrived and cookie cutter as anything the band has ever done. That's not to say Lyla is bad, but I know they can do better than that. LTBL is dogshit though. The epitome of the word "contrived". It just feels like they thought "Lets crank out a ballad!" and made it overly sappy with almost no emotive resonance whatsoever.
I hope though that its a harbinger of whats to come and I know that the low points are definitely not the lowest and can be improved upon. Noel is back on form for the most part after a misstep on HC and theres no PYMWYMI on there. There's no Songbird either, which is a shame (best song on HC), but Liam's songwriting on whole is stronger on DBTT than he was previously.
I think the best phrase to describe DBTT is "transitional album". This is not a bad thing. It just is the band leaning towards going somewhere else with a maturing sound and preferably leaving the "lad mentality" behind (but still able to bring that out at any time).

I think some of what holds DBTT back from being a great album (though I think it's very good) is the fact that it feels edited where it shouldn't be. Turn Up The Sun, while having an awesome opening line, feels like it should have a killer guitar solo after the end part where the notes are picked. The first time I heard I thought it was building up to that, but then it just ended and I was let down. A 4 minute song that easily could've been 4:30-5:00 with some imagination, especially since guitar solos have been rare lately, extended ones at least. Another song that I think could've been vastly improved on is Guess God Thinks I'm Abel, the "Come on now, let's make it tonight" should've been repeated several times, other lyrics added, that part was mad but seemed to just appear and disappear for no real reason. Those songs, to me, would be legendary with those additions. Agree with the middle of the road assessment of Keep The Dream Alive, ok but not necessary, goes with what Noel said in the NME about Andy and Gem writing what they thought Oasis songs should sound like. No matter what, though, everything they've done has brought us to this point, where we strongly feel we have an amazing album on our hands, so I'm just really excited about that prospect.

DBTT isn't unforgettable just a bit jaded when it comes to past albums. The main thing that I think may separate it from other albums is mainly its length. If I'm not mistaken, it's the shortest Oasis album, even though SOTSOG is probably a close second. But that's not saying it's a bad album, not at all...
#1 - Definitely Maybe - Classic. #2 - (What's the Story) Morning Glory? - Near-perfect but has unnecessary fillers. #3 - Don't Believe the Truth - A wonderful album that has trouble holding its fire, but still shines. #4 - Standing on the Shoulder of Giants - A genius of an album blinded by too many unneeded disasters. #5 - Be Here Now - If production was better we would've had a worthy follow-up to WTSMG. #6 - Heathen Chemistry - There's one or two gems, but nothing that'll ever save this album from losing even its shadow.
I have no doubt that Dig Out Your Soul will take my #3 spot. Just after listening to the 20+ second clip of "The Shock of the Lightning," I have officially become hooked.

What a strange bunch there are on this forum DBTT is an excellent album, with no real weak links.....GGTIA, TIOBI and ABWR are top class....especially ABWR....all the others are great tracks and I struggle to find a song I don't like....at different times each as probably been in my top 3 off the album........any Oasis fan who doesn't like these tracks should probably find another band

Mucky Fingers (the only debatable one...personally my favourite Noel rocker apart from Full On, I think people are a bit too harsh because it reminds them slightly of that VU song...) I love Mucky Fingers. But to say it is "slightly" reminiscent of the Velvet Underground is possibly the most charitable statement ever made.
