in america it's
"today is gonna be the day"
and that's it. though, if someone is a fan, then they're a real fan.

Irrelevant. That's the word that sums up the perception of oasis in America.
People don't hate them, because most love Wonderwall. But the image of the feuding brothers is what everyone remembers.

Uptight, pretentious, patronising wankers.
I'll take two hours watching Oasis with a bunch of 'neds' any fucking day.

I would prefer a festival attracted the Oasis crowd than those nutters who are trying to beat the shit out of each other at Slipknot and other angsty bands' concerts. Most Oasis fans are not as these jock arseholes are suggesting anyway.

Having lived in the UK until I was 23, and the US for the past 5 years, the perception is very different. Bourne is on the money as far as the US goes, most know them for Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova. Almost all know them for two feuding brothers. Generally speaking.

Even the other I was telling somebody I was going to the show in Vancouver and they looked at me like I had two heads. Oasis? Didn't they break up like 10 yrs ago? They were actually shocked that they had put out 4/5 albums since Wonderwall and were going to be playing for 12,000 to 15,000 people.

The problem exists in the way people react to them. They're not there to cause trouble. They're there to watch Oasis, and have the fucking time of their life.

You are probably one of these neds that ruin it for everyone else and are making excuses, piss off!

My friends that listen to respectable music appreciate Oasis for what they have done, and all can admit that Noel is a great songwriter. Even if they do not get into all their albums. Mostly I have to bring up Oasis for someone to remember them "Oh yeah Oasis. I had that album with Champagne Supernova on it back in high school"
But then on the other hand you have the closed minded people that hate them with a passion. Kinda like live4evr when it comes to Coldplay.

Ok, why don't you two go make out in the corner. Yes, I'm talking about you Lions er, Banana Hammock, and you supersonic1983.
And for the record, I can think of about 4000 other things live4ever is closed minded about - it's not just Coldplay. C'mon!!!

Every once in a while you stumble across someone who knows them well, usually when you're least expecting it. A couple of months ago a guy asked me what kind of music I liked and I ran through some bands. He was like, "Oasis?" I was thinking yeah yeah here we go again. But the dude owned everything except for SOTSOG.

One of the (wrong) perceptions that a lot of people have is that they copy everything from the beatles and that all the songs sound the same... People of say that usually don't know much further than wonderwall

People of say that usually don't know much further than wonderwall Yeah I've had that too, Beatles rip-offs, didn't they split up 10 years ago etc. When I was talking to someone around the DBTT era she was like "Oasis made a comeback?!" She compared them to The New Radicals (a massive one-hit wonder). I've found that people around me tend to be drawn in without me forcing the music down their throat. People do appreciate the music when they actually hear it.

I've run into quite a few chicks over the years who have been big Oasis fans. I credit one, about 6 or 7 years ago when I was really getting into the SOTSG and HC stuff, with initiating me into their backstory. She had a VHS tape with old 120 minutes footage, MTV specials and the Unplugged performance that she let me borrow. Unfortunately, I also found out she had a biting (hard!) fetish and a thing for vampires, so I got rid of her. Kept the tape though! Wonder if she ever forgave me for that...
