It's an absolute travesty that this song isn't on any albums - it's definately one of Oasis' best ever. It's epic. So many people will never hear it because it's not on itunes or on an album. Does Noel not like it or something? They've played it live so many times, I don't understand why it's just being forgotten. Maybe the idea of sharing credit with Neil Innes or whatever his name is put Noel off the idea of putting this song on stop the clocks, DM or WTSMG.
Can anyone shed any light?

I believe it is royalties that keeps this one off albums, but on that basis why is C&A on DM and STC? Did Bolan not sue them for that?

There is no doubt that Whatever deserves to be on STC. Classic tune!

Please hunt down the acoustic version Noel did with Gem at 'live at the Lowry' which was brodcasted by XFM (if you haven't heard it already).
The whole gig is in a few bootleg/file sharing sites in very good quality - and this version of whatever is brilliant. Noel even says before playing it that this is how it should of been!
If you have trouble getting it, let me know and I'll see if I can up it somewhere.
There's a poor cam phone vid of him doing it on youtube:

Yeah! Classic tune! I really don't know why Liam hates it so much? Is it because he reckon he sounds like Tweety Pie again I think his vocals are amazing though! As for the new versions that Noel did on the Stop The Clocks tour: It's inspired and influenced from Dylan. I think the new version is fantastic, but I can't decide which version is best: Stop The Clocks tour version or MTV Superdry version? Whatever - MTV Superdry '02 Whatever - Cabaret Sauvage '06

Stop The Clocks tour version or MTV Superdry version? I can't pick. It's impossible.

I believe it is royalties that keeps this one off albums, but on that basis why is C&A on DM and STC? Did Bolan not sue them for that? When Whatever was first released as a single Neil Innes wasn't credited in the cover, but was on an later pressing of the single, so i don't think that's the reason it was left of DM. Although i do think it being left off DM had something to do with them singing "All The Young Dudes" at the end, which was later dropped for the release.
