DM had balls. Lots of guitars. Completely Rock n roll... until the last track, but even the acoustic track was ballsy. I It was a blusey little diddy with some sweet guitar licks and hilarious lyrics delivered by liam with perfect tone.
Slowly over time oasis lost their balls. In the beginning they were young and had dreams. After they achieved these dreams it seems they lost their inspiration... This is a generalization, as I do like some of their newer stuff (mostly the noel sung shit like idle and part of the queue). They became rather formulaic. In the early days the music was simple, but not too simple. The songs were creative and unique. Columbia had an awesome guitar jam and few lyrics... Shakermaker was surreal and used clever wordplay.
Of course around the early days you had noel's acoustic songs. But they were heartfelt and brilliant. A lot of them these days aren't. Just cliche and poppy sounding.
Now the typical oasis song is just formulaic.. Generic. No cool guitar parts anymore. Mostly just strumming, and if their is a guitar solo its short and shitty. I don't get why people are like "LOL GEM IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN NOEL." I haven't heard any evidence of this... the only way we know this is bc Noel says so....
why doesn't he sack up and show us his skills with some solos or sick lead parts? I haven't heard Gem play any lead guitar that had as good of a sound as Noel's guitar in the early days. Never. Nothing like the swamp song or columbia As I said most of the songs are pretty guitar-lite. Just strumming chords.. very little lead. It makes the songs almost boring.
That is why the only songs I really like now are the acoustic ones like Idle, Part of the Queue, etc. These songs are noel's dylan-esque songs. I like these songs because they are creative and cool.
All the rock songs are just boring. Oasis' sound has become a cliche, as have the lyrics.
So in conclusion I hope they explore with this new album. I hope they use the instruments in new ways. There's way more a guitar can be used for then just strumming chords and noel fucking knows that because he use to use the guitar for more than just that! I want unique creative sounding songs where they really prove that they have talent.
This is a bit of a messy rant, but does anybody else feel me?

Gem is obviously a better guitarist than Noel.
Noel: Brilliant writer, great singer Liam: Good writer, good (used to be brilliant) singer Andy: Good writer, great bass player Gem: Good writer, great guitarist

I'd actually think that andy is the most talented guitarist. His stuff with Ride is mind blowing. and Who knows about Liam's voice one review said "they even took cough drops to help their raspy voices"

Andy is underrated, probably the second best songwriter in the band, imo.

I don't know how you can call Take Me Away or Better People brilliant, but whatever. I really like better people actually. Gem is obviously a better guitarist than Noel. Noel: Brilliant writer, great singer Liam: Good writer, good (used to be brilliant) singer Andy: Good writer, great bass player Gem: Good writer, great guitarist Obviously? That didn't answer my question. Give me an example of where Gem smokes Noel? I've never heard it. They both sounds like competent but mediocre guitarists to me. I have not heard any great basslines from Andy. They're all mostly just following the chord progression of the song. I haven't heard any sick guitar solos from Gem. Nothing to show me that these guys are impressive musicains. Ever.

I'm not saying that they are or they are not amazing musicians, but Oasis's music has never been about amazing Basslines or insane solos/riffs. There not Mars Volta. Its about the tunes. I agree with you on the fact that I've never seen anything that would provide evidence that gem is way better than Noel, except I believe Noel has stated that.

Even though some people dislike A Quick Peep, it's got such a different guitar from everything else they've done, and it's also alot more complicated than anything Noel's put down. And it's really tough to tell how good of a bassist he is because he gets drowned out in concert and you never know who is playing what on the albums

I really like better people actually. Well, I like the tune too, but it's a far cry from brilliance. I disagree, I'll reiterate what I posted in the "It's Brilliant" thread: It truly is brilliant. According to itunes, I've now listened to it 33 times in the space of 24 hours! It doesn't get old, and that reason alone makes it brilliant. I'm not a fan of that migrane inducing electonic part near the end, but do like how it explodes after that as the piano comes in. And the piano is immense. I still get a buzz when hearing that piano segment. The backing vocals are great. And I love the "We live a dying dreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeam, if you know what I meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeean part" No doubt that DYOS will show everyone that Oasis are well and truly back.

So we can try with the Rolling Stones... but I bet " THE HERO THAT'S STILL UNSUNG " of the Bon Jovi forum board, would proabably disagree with you...

" And the piano is immense " LOL It's only few notes, nothing very complicated... nothing really inspired either... Are you really this dumb? Seriously? Things don't have to be complicated to be good. Did I say "Wow, the piano part must take an incredible amount of talent!?" No, I didn't. I said it sounded good. Many of the Beatles songs were simplistic in nature, does that mean that their songs can't be "immense"? The piano part sounds mega, it doesn't matter if it takes a lot of skill or not to play it.
