You're not anticipating this album at all yet you created an account on live4ever within the last couple of days? Exactly! But anyway, to the original poster, it's an imperfect opinion that you're perfectly entitled to hold. But is it really how you feel? I mean you're curiousity as johnnylsuave points out kind of contradicts your comment really. I've been a massive fan since I was a teenager. I would jus rather them be remembered as the awesome force they once were, and not the pub band they have become. I seriously makes me want to cry listening to filth like Mucky Fingers or Born on a Different Cloud. It's total rubbish. I'm a Beatles fan as well, and I'm glad they quit when they did. They went out on a high note. Every album they released is great. They didn't soil their legacy like Oasis have. Gem Archer songs on an Oasis record? Are you kidding me? Hell, even Liam Gallagher songs on an Oasis record? Ugh.

Oh No! This could easily be a thread straight off inet! One thing iv learnt in the past couple of days is that this place actually has real oasis fans. People who know what theyr talking about and have decent discussions about the future. Oasis arent dead man. Im 17 and i cant imagine my life without Oasis. Iv even ordered singles in from the US and UK coz we didnt get them here in New Zealand and people here are going crazy over just the titles of songs. I could go on but i think ya get my point. That's awesome man. The best days of my life were when I was a little older than you and discovered Oasis for the first time. Morning Glory came out when I was in high school... it was BRILLIANT!!! They were on top of the charts in the US and the UK, they were all over MTV, they were on the cover of Rolling Stone, they were playing to over 100,000 people. It was Oasismania. People seriously believed they could eclipse the Beatles at the time. Everything they released was fucking magic. Even the B-Sides!!! Today they are just a pale shell of their former selves. They should have gone out wit Giants. Leave with an underrated classic. Don't dilute yourself with Gem Archer and Liam Gallagher songs. Don't get old and fat. Don't get woman's haircuts and wear blouses in public. Don't have demented kids who kick at camera's. Just don't!

In the last 8 years, Oasis have:
- Had 4 number one singles and 3 number two singles
- Had three number one albums
- Sold over 10 million albums
- Steadily gained further legions of fans
- Played to over two million people on the last tour
So, nah I don't think that sounds like a "dead" band you tosser. If you don't like Oasis fuck off out of this forum.

Don't get woman's haircuts and wear blouses in public. Don't have demented kids who kick at camera's. Just don't! Look, if you're going to pull this shit, at least fight fair. Andy, Gem an Liam have contributed a grand total of TEN songs over the past 3 albums...hardly what anyone would consider a substantial contribution. When it comes right down to it, your real problem is with Noel...as he has about 2 dozen tunes on those records, and you only mark ONE as a classic (your word, not mine). As I've said a BILLION freaking times, it's about the timing. ALways has, always will. Unless you're named u2 or Red Hot Chili Peppers, please point out the rock acts that are 15-20 yrs old and still enjoying their "hay day"? It just doesn't happen. It's pointless to compare the popular musical landscape now to the mid-late sixties...the Beatles really had no REAL competition...no one was doing what they were doing- which of course is a testament to their innovation, but also a good example of how the industry has evolved, for every 1 band gettig any kind of exposure 40 years ago there has to be 50 now thanks to mass media and the i-net. Seriously. I'll put the Hindu Times, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Songbird (shit liam tune), Little By Little, Lyla, Love Like A Bomb (another awful liam tune), The Importance of Being Idle, Let There Be Love, and A Bell Will Ring in 1996 and I guarantee you they're certifiable hits....with any real MARKETING potential blockbusters. Not too shabby for 2 albums, hey? While I would agree that DEf Maybe and WTSMG? is perhaps one of the most deadly 1-2 punchex in pop rock history, the "downslide" of Oasis is largely the work of pop fiction/culture. They still have the songs, they're just not 24/28 years old anymore and it certainly isnt' 1995 anymore. It happens.

I agree with most, maybe all, of what this guy's saying. I've felt disappointed by all the same things he's talking about, just maybe don't take it to the extreme he does. I don't think he's just here to troll.
I accept that, though. There simply has never been another band, and never will be, that could match what Oasis are to me. I don't see why there should be, anyway. Their worst output still trumps the best of any other active band, and I'm not saying that objectively, but on a personal level.
I never could get the mindset of "I wish they'd quit when they were ahead." 1991-1998 will always be 1991-1998 (or whatever years you think they were still viable), regardless of what they chose to do afterward. So why not have more? That's the point where I disagree.
It's like when people say (and they have said this ...) that they wish Noel had died right after they made Be Here Now or played Knebworth or whatever so he could be immortalised as a tragic rock hero a la Cobain or Hendrix. That's silly. They were great because they had the talent, not because they had a spotless career or because they left you on a cliffhanger wondering what else they'd have done.

The only album I've been dissappointed with is DBTT and that is a recent thing. I think a lot of people make up their minds on what i is popular to like. You can even notcie people using the exact same phrases and tag lines of NME reviewers on here to describe some of it! Make up your own minds! DBTT was a return to form: False, easily their worst album and I can't even listen to it any more or pick out one as a stand-out song. They are on the right track with this album after the success of DBTT:Not necessarily. BHN is all about the production and not the quality of songs: Not true again, it's my favourite. Some of these songs were even written at the same time as DM and DYKWIM is their best song by far. SOTSOG was a disaster: One bad song, this album is unbelievably good, gas panic a close second after DYKWIM!

DBTT was a return to form: True - HC was poor, with only about 2 good songs. DBTT has several great songs (Turn Up The Sun, Importance Of Being Idle, Meaning Of Soul, Part Of The Queue, Let There Be Love) and a few other good ones. It has also garnered them many more fans and a lot more respect in the music industry (which is importance whatever you say about the NME)

I do agree about SOTSOG though. I Can See A Liar and PYMWYMI are terrible songs, but every other song on the album is superb. Gas Panic, Roll It Over, Go Let It Out and even Little James are some of the best and innovative pieces of music that Oasis has ever done. I also think that Who Feels Love may be the most under rated song of all time. The first chorus is brilliant!

WTSMG, DM, BHN, DBTT, SOTSOG, and HC is my ranking with HC being my least favorite studio album.
Dead? i don't think so... as a fan (atic)... Oasis (Noel & Liam) can put shit on a plate and i'll still eat it up (figuratively speaking)... i feel Oasis is more relevant to me now than ever because i know i'm growing old... and i know there will be a day... when they call it quits and i will be crushed man.
but as an average fan of Oasis... then yeah... some of your opinions are reasonable.

A bad oasis album is still ten times better than most things around these days though!

Minus BRMC and Kasabian, obviously. Their recent albums have been better than DBTT easily...

The one thing I do agree with is the noticeable difference in Oasis songs after Noel used up his proverbial "teenage archive" of songs. I know there is no way to know when exactly it happened, but it does seem that after BHN and its assorted b-sides, that Oasis had to start clean with SOTSOG. I think that's why the last few albums have had more fillers and non-Noel songs on them. Don't get me wrong, he still hits the bullseye these days, but just not as much as in the DM/WTSMG days.

'Standing on the Shoulder of Giants' was Oasis' 'Strangeways , Here We Come'. It was still great, but was a noticeable drop in quality.
As a Smiths fan, I'm glad they broke up after 'Strangeways'. They didn't tarnish their legacy, and as a result, still have their reputation in tact.
To me, Oasis will always be Noel, Liam, Bonehead and Guigsy. It's just a different energy now. A different vibe. And it';s not working for me. It's been bastardized.

If I'm a fan of a band, I'd rather have a new album of songs (some good, some average) over them breaking up, thus retaining some pointless legacy. Honestly, who cares about reputation. If you're concerned about reputation, Oasis is the wrong band to be a fan of.
