Yes Noel is an athiest. He's said it in interviews I believe, but all the clues are in the songs:
"I never could pray cos it's just no good" - Idler's Dream
"But faith in any God is gonna bury us all" - Carry Us All
"You found your God in a paperback" - Mucky Fingers

actually it's "you found your god in a paper bag" No it's not! Check the DBTT album book, the lyrics clearly state "PAPER BACK" Does paper bag even make sense to you? I doubt it. By PAPER BACK he means BIBLE - he's mocking the idea how people believe in God because of it being written down in a book, and he's right.

Sorry but I hae to stick up for Mercury here. I remember Noel discussing those lyrics one time around the release of DBTT and he difinitely said paper bag. Also I wouldn't use Inet as a source for correct lyrics, in Stand by Me they list a lyric as "Said I would and i believe in one day before my heart starts to burn" when it most certainly is "Said I would and I'll be leaving one day before my heart starts to burn"

I remember an interview in NME when he applauded Richard Dawkins for trying to disprove God.

If you can make sense out of "paper bag" then credit to you.

It's 'paperback', now stop the bickering children.
It's nice to see that Noel has joined us.

Haha who gives a flying fuck if it's bag or back. What a petty thing!
He is an atheist but I read somewhere that he "believes in a higher power/being".

I always took god in a paper bag to mean alcoholism, like tramps carrying bottles of whiskey around in brown paper bags

I always took god in a paper bag to mean alcoholism, like tramps carrying bottles of whiskey around in brown paper bags exactly what I thought too. makes a lot of sense when you hear it that way too. and even if discredit that, finding it in a paperbag would mean that its trivial and what you have found is worth nothing, further supporting the atheism claims. Inet is shit for lyrics

I always thought it was paper bag too. But both back or bag could make sense.

Around HC for some reason, a lot of lyrics started sounding religious or spiritual. This interview is kind of weird, not sure what he's talking about, but it sure seems like he's talking about God.

What about the SMS lyric " Some Might Say they don't believe in heaven, go and tell it to the man who lives in Hell".
I don't think the intention is to mock religion there. Sounds like he's saying there's a heaven.

He is an atheist but I read somewhere that he "believes in a higher power/being". If so, then he's not an atheist.

This is stupid, but it is paper back. I have multiple live versions where you can more clearly hear him. People just go with what they think they hear and get used to it. Just like most people think in Don't Go Away it's: I don't want to be there when you hit the ground"... but it's "And I want to be there"...

Look at the liner notes for the album. It's paperback. From Noel - "I'm very, very cynical toward (religion), and I think it's human nature to believe in something, but I can't believe that there's a God when Mr. George Bush claims to be on the side of God and Al-Qaeda claim to be on the side of God, and they're gonna blow up the f -- n' world. So to me, there is no God. Because if there was, now would be a pretty good time to give us a sign. ..." On the There And Then DVD, when Liam sings "Some might say they don't believe in heaven" he points to himself and says "Oh yeah!" There's also a celebrity athiest site with profiles on both of them, although it's under the "ambiguous" section: www.celebatheists.com/?title=Liam_Gallagherwww.celebatheists.com/?title=Noel_GallagherThere's been some tabloid stories about Liam taking his family to church and telling his kids not to swear, but that could be for all sorts of reasons ... probably still an athiest/agnostic whatever.

He is an atheist but I read somewhere that he "believes in a higher power/being". If so, then he's not an atheist. I don't know how you'd figure that. The higher power doesn't necessarily have to be a god or gods. Not according to Alcoholics Anonymous, anyway ... it'd be interesting to think of Liam at an AA meeting, lol. It's possible one or both of them have fluctuated between having some form of belief and nothing.

The point I was trying to make here is that for a so called official website Inet gets a lot of lyrics wrong!!
