A little too fussy for me too, but FLAC is lossless so these is no or very little difference from CD quality sound. An MP3 is essentially a compressed file - takes the sound from a CD and essentially flattens it and compresses it to fit into a manageable audio file. For most - like me - the sound is good enough, but the compression results in a 'loss' of sounds quality, range, depth, etc. I'm no expert, but that's the basics - I'm sure someone else can explain it better... Except that a high quality MP3 compared to CD-Audio is virtually indistinguishable. MP3 only cuts out the high range frequencies that are not able to be heard by the human ear. The lower the bitrate, the more that is cut.

The second leak (full) occurred on June 3. The source is German iTunes. The reason they leaked it was obviously the release date got transposed (June 30 to 03). It wasnt out very long, but long enough that German fans were able to purchase it and share it. The Soapbox was the first place that it was posted. Do you not mean May, as the album was officially released in on 30th May.

Ha Ha, no worries.
I remember getting DBTT about 2 weeks before the release, but I got Heathen Chemistry about 3 months before.
I thing HC leaked earlier as they released Hindu Times & SCYHO before the album was released.

Thanks for the responses... i was going to try and hold off until the release, but now i'm thinking i'll just get it as soon as it's available Hold out until release date. I've downloaded the HC and DBTT leaks and it ruins the big day of walking into a store and buying the proper album complete with artwork and everything. Trust me, it'll be worth resisting temptation and holding out.

The big day is now the leak day! I'll buy it on release day as well, but if I can hear it before then, along with the dozens of fans who will download it and listen to it right away, thats what Im going to do. If the music is shit on a leak, it will be shit on release day. If the rip is really awful quality thats one thing, if its high quality its not even noticable.

I think you're the one who needs to chill out homeboy.
You're more than welcome to do what you like as well, but dont get worked up when someone else states a differing perspective.
If you choose to wait, you only torture yourself.

Except that a high quality MP3 compared to CD-Audio is virtually indistinguishable. MP3 only cuts out the high range frequencies that are not able to be heard by the human ear. The lower the bitrate, the more that is cut. Be careful here. Without going into technicalites, please let me assure you that, depending imperatively upon the playback equipment and the "experience" of the listener, one can relatively consistently decipher even a 320 mp3 and a lossless audio file. When my brother challenged me on this I nailed the lossless file 19 out of 25 times. Now, surely certain marterial can be more revealing than other (unfortunately most Oasis lp's do NOT fall into this category due to their insane use of compression, layering and loop), but make no mistake, there IS an audible difference with a significant amount of material. To be sure though, as you state, a decent 320 mp3 is pretty damn serviceable for most people and their "rig" (stereo). Because I'm an idiotic freak, I've got about 5k+$$$ in mine ("stereo") and most of my mp3 320's just aren't up to snuff. btw, please avoid flaming me for my audio set-up, I didn't post to beep my own horn, just to note that equipment has A LOT to do with the fidelity experience (and no, expensive equipment doesn't necessarily equate to a better experience). Finally, I would suggest to everyone here who uses itunes/ipods to utilize the Apple Lossless encoder. While it limits you to apple-based "stuff" (which usually isn't an issue for ipod users anyway), its a fantastic "reduced space" lossless encoder. see ya

There's something about having the artwork, holding the actual album in your hands and popping into your stereo that makes me never, ever listen to an album before it's released.

To each his own - I've not decided if I'll wait or not. I remember when DM came out - they played three tracks on the radio, and told everyone to run out and get a copy, so I did. Changed my life.
With WTSMG, I remember snapping it up pretty quick and heading off to grad school in the U.S. BHN was a different story altogether - that was a big event. I was living on top of a pub at the time, and there was a little record store around the corner specializing in imports. I counted down the days, lined up and couldn't wait to get back to my apartment. I stopped in the pub and convinced them to play the album end to end. They did, and we all got roaring drunk. I woke in the hall way of my apartment the next morning, and once I sobered up, I had to go back to the record store to get another copy - my original was left at the pub and was long gone. At the time no one knew what an MP3 was, so the thought of an advanced copy was out of the question.
The next two albums came and went - pretty much a blur during those years for me. Fast forward to DBTT, and I couldn't wait to download and listen to every scrap i could get my hands on. I had forgotten until and earlier post reminded me of the awkward leak - a few songs here, a few there.
This time around, I'm determined to make an event out of this leak/release. As soon as I can get my hands on a full version, I'm taking the day off work. Once the kids are off to care and my wife to work, it's Oasis day at my house. We'll invite friends over in the evening, do it up right - lots of food and lots of Stella. May not get roaring drunk this time, but if I do, at least it's still stumbling distance to my bed.
Thanks for listening, and my advice: do what you like, but just do something special. It's unlikely ten years from now you'll look back fondly or even remember downloading a couple of leaked songs at a time and listening to them on your laptop...
Cheers

Yeah, that's a good point, about having all of them at the same time... if you have all the songs at once, in the proper tracklisting, there probably isn't much difference.... however, if different songs leak at different times, that would kind of dampen the experience

'Ruins the big day'? 'Do something special'?
All a bit melodramatic, isn't it? It's an Oasis album, not the fucking apocalypse.

I'll listen to every fucking song as many times as humanly possible immediately upon their "leakage".
Then of course I'll tell everyone with a pair of ears how it's the best thing they'll hear all year...or until their next album anyway.

I'm a relatively new fan, so I'm gonna wait and buy the physical album. I'm too excited to listen to a poor quality version of the album off some file sharing site

I wouldnt usually bother with leaks but this year i may because im on holiday when the album is released, so im hoping it'll be available to download in full by the time i go (Saturday before the release) so i can listen to it while im away. I'll only get it if its the whole album that leaks though, i dont like listening to songs from a new album in drips and drabs.
Think i'll also order my copy on play.com this year and hope for an early delivery, ive had albums released on the monday delivered the saturday before in the past so hopefully that'll happen again so i can quickly put it on my iPod before i leave.
