I heard clongs... huge chorus strums... and layers of guitars... that's all... and you people wanting "juicy details" are out of luck...

Just one question... what are 'clongs'?!

I hated the tinny crappy guitars on DBTT! I thought I was the only one who thought that! I completely agree... what is up with that... I've listened to other Sardy productions and haven't heard that tinny sound as much or at all, so I don't know if it's an Oasis thing or a Sardy thing... may have been the mastering... there's also this harsh fizzy sound throughout that really bothers me.

Sorry, didn't see your post there (my other ones seem rude now). i totally agree with you. I always presumed it was sardy, what else has he produced? Maybe it's gem actually? Cos it can be best described by the tone in eyeball tickler! How good would that song be with the right tone? Very!

They could begin to use sitar on some songs! It'd be really massive.

It sounded like big Oasis guitars... I call them clongs... layered strums that happen on the 1 beat of chord changes... that's all I could tell you. I'm not saying any more because I don't know any more and I work with the studio frequently so can't jeopardize my professional relationship with them. They sounded epic, but on the record they may sound tinny and shitty like some of the guitars on DBTT.

Actually... it's not a Sardy thing because Mucky Fingers has that terrible sound in the opening strums and that's the demo that wasn't produced by Sardy. I think it may have been the mastering.

I thought mastering was just how loud every track was, but I'm obviously not an expert!
Have you noticed though, since Gem joined, the guitars have got less straight forward, proper rock to kinda jazzy stuff (like Paul Weller or something...). Did he play on SOTSOG, cos after that's when things start to go to downhill for me in terms of production.
P.S. How good is gas panic? That's the best we could hope for with the new album unless noel still thinks he's paul weller.

Gas panic! is one of Noel's finest songs. Really genius! To me, the worst Oasis production is Heathen Chemistry. DBTT was top notch although the guitars could been rougher.

Be Here Now has the worst production, no question. I love it, but from a technical standpoint it's fucking appalling to listen to.

DBTT wasn't meant to be 'rough' and 'raw'. It was a very simple, retro sounding album, and to make it sound like BHN or something would have been pretty bad. For the new album, their talking up rocking, loud songs, so i would aspect some rougher, louder production on the new album. Be Here Now has the worst production, no question. I love it, but from a technical standpoint it's fucking appalling to listen to. Couldn't disagree more- in my opinion it's their best. (Not that i'm an expert, but the music sounds the best, very 'immediate', to me) MG is the album w/ shit production. The thing is, it makes all the songs sound old, and classic. Part of the queue, Turn up the sun and TIOBI are among the band's finest material.

Be Here Now has the worst production, no question. I love it, but from a technical standpoint it's fucking appalling to listen to. Why? I guess it's personal preference but I think it's amazing. My friend was the engineer for a lot of it and said working with Owen Morris for those sessions was mind blowing in terms of getting sounds that are unbelievable. I think the production is amazing... Noel cites the lack of bass guitar volume as a major flaw but overall the only weaknesses I hear are with the arrangements. Now days producers are all about "separation" and "clarity" which is often terrible to me... it takes all the soul and vibe out of recordings for bands like Oasis. I have many friends who work at the best studios in the world and without fail, they all say that the wall of sound thing isn't cool because they're part of the system of "popular music" and can't "feel" music anymore... I love the epic sound Owen Morris makes... listen to that guitar slide intro on SBM or just the pummeling swagger of DYKWIM... utterly classic.... If D'You Know What I Mean? came out next month as the new Oasis single we'd completely shitting ourselves.

If D'You Know What I Mean? came out next month as the new Oasis single we'd completely shitting ourselves. Absolutely agreed 100% mate. If BHN had been put out by any band who hadn't preceded it with DM and WTSMG, it'd been hailed as a triumph of the highest order.

People only make fun of BHN cos they are told to, if journalists didn't exist everyone would love it! It's just the popular thing to do these days (similar to how you are not allowed to like axl rose's new band, cos everyone knows Slash was the genius ) P.S. I totally agree with you, you don't wanna be separating the tracks on it. That's why it seems like a wall of sound that just hits you. It's massive and DBTT sounds like a weak pop album that would have been forgotten in the 60s. Who wants to start a campaign to get Owen Morris back, or even the guy who produced SOTSOG, who was that? I love ranting on this site even if noone lieks to listen!

Cartoon Moon is great example of what he does well: www.mediafire.com/?mm4x6zbm3gj

Sounded quite good, but that was exactly the kinda rock n' roll I was talking about, jazzy! It is Gem, and Ive always like him... Oasis were good, straight forward rock, gem must have snuck in the roll lately and I'm not having it.

Stop The Clocks as the album's closer... and it's sung by Noel... hmmm... I hope there's only one or two Noel-sung songs (when in reality I know there will be 5, which SUCKS.) The change-up means so much more when it's done just once like on the 2nd and 3rd records. Liam makes tunes exciting.
