I like it but I wish the vocals were mixed a bit higher. That's on first listen mind you, my opinion might evolve. Brilliant guitar tone

I like it but I wish the vocals were mixed a bit higher. That's on first listen mind you, my opinion might evolve. Brilliant guitar tone I think his vocals have been mixed way too high before, so I'm more happy with the levels on this new stuff. By Bloodflowers and The Cure it was just ridiculous. Those albums sound like Robert Smith doing karaoke. The backing tracks were flat and lifeless while Robert's voice, even when he's murmuring lyrics, just towered above. I love his voice, but you can't get a vibe or atmosphere going with just a voice. Not with the kind of tunes The Cure write anyway. The instruments do a lot of the heavy lifting, and Robert's voice should just be the final ingredient to make it all stick together.
(I'm also happy that this album looks set to come in at under an hour. Too many Cure albums have grown to be too long.)

I adore this. Robert's lyrics are so starkly moving, and Reeves Gabrels' guitar solo only adds to the emotion of it.

I wanted to listen to this for a while before giving my opinion. My 3 favourite bands are Oasis, The Cure and Radiohead and when any of the members from those groups put anything out I get a bit overhyped and fall into the recency bias trap a bit and tend to over rate things a little. But over 2 weeks into this release I still think it's amazing. It's a short album in terms of amount of tracks but length wise it's pretty standard and there isn't a single dull or uninspired moment. You can tell they really worked on these songs and developed them as much as they can. I've said before that 4:13 Dream sounds like a collection of demo's or first takes, this is the complete opposite and sounds really well thought out and so tight and cohesive.
I really enjoy Bloodflowers and the self titled album but I'm pretty confident by this point in saying that this is my favourite release since Wish. It might even be on par with Wish, it doesn't quite have the high points that album had but there's not a single moment of filler.
