In the '90s: - (What's the story) Morning glory?: 3rd position in the chart - Be here now: 2nd position in the chart - Wonderwall and Champagne supernova: very famous songs in North America - in 1996 Oasis played at the Mtv Video Music Awards in New York - Many big gigs in all the country - About 10 millions of copies sold in Usa
From the new millennium the things have been changed. Why? In rest of the world Oasis are still very famous, one of the biggest band of all time. Why not in US?

Liam at Trl Usa, in 2000. ;D haha I remember watching that live. Man oh man I just wanna punch Carson Daly in the face. I mean yea Liam is impossible to understand and a horrible interview, but he's still about 50 thousand times cooler than Carson Daly will ever be. I love the LG thing though

s'much as I love Oasis, and I believe in what they're about but, they havent played the "MEDIA GAME" here in the states (Im kool w/that. Wouldn't want every other fucker sporting Oasis garb around town) And now Im afraid it's all too late for that. Demographics show that most 13-22yr olds arent into bands with 40yr old men. Most American are into Mr. TrouserSnake himself, Justin Tinkerbell or slutty rehab starletts like Brit Brit, Lindsay, or Riahna (?) Well what about Madonna? Right Madonna, shes out there whoring herself out to every media outlet out there. I think the Gallaghers are content with the amount of $$$$ coming out of the states, which is why theres little to no effort on their part in doing a mini promo tour. Sides, they clean up with their tours, selling out The Hollywood, gigs at MSG, and you know what makes that special, for US fans, that we the FANS without US promotion managed to sell out these venues for the lads by buying tix, not just to one gig but, several. Out here you either fell off after BHN or you've carried on since. With the way the economy is out here right now, I dont know if this time around, I'll be doing a mini tourf their West Coast dates like I did for the DBTT. Planing on going to the UK instead for a few gigs and ofcourse a "pit stop" in Amsterdam.

They have a steady following here... Oasis aren't going anywhere. Here in Boston, I hear them on the radio at least five times a week..Only problem is the songs are over 10 years old that are being played. To be fair, they are a household name over here which can't be said for Robbie Williams or the Verve. The only bands from the UK that rival them in popularity here are Coldplay and Radiohead. (U2 if you count Ireland)

I've actually come across people who thought they were a one hit wonder cause all they knew was Wonderwall. Most American's don't even know Live Forever.

I live in NY... and could care less about Oasis being big in America, just as long as I can get there records and they tour here...its great! Do I think Oasis deserve to be here? Yes, do I think America deserves them? Hell no ;D

You go into 7 out of 10 houses in America and ask, "Do you know Oasis?" they'll say, "Yeah, the band with brothers that fight all the time. They had that song 'Wonderwall'. You go into 7 out of 10 houses and say, "Do you know Robbie Williams?" they'll say, "The guy from 'Flubber' and 'Jumanji?' I also adamantly disagree that "Angels" and "Millenium" made him a household name. They got lukewarm reception at best and you NEVER hear those songs on the radio anymore. And I agree that people know the song "Bittersweet Symphony" but ask Joe Q America, "Who sings that song?", 7 out of of 10 wouldn't know...they just know it from the end of 'Cruel Intentions".

Before "Viva la Vida", Coldplay really only had one huge hit in America and that was "Clocks". They've received steady airplay but I think their last album dampened their popularity a little bit since it wasn't very radio friendly. Radiohead isn't nearly as mainstream here, but they've got an enormous fan base. I guess Oasis would be #3...but certainly not when it comes to airplay.

I think el Streako pretty much hit it on the head. They were popular during the WTSMG era and all that, but fell off the map when their popularity waned. Of course they experienced a brief resurgence in popularity with Don't Believe the Truth but without incredibly large hits they fell off the radar for a while.
I think it really comes down to how fickle Americans can really be. Sure you have your fans that still listen and really like Oasis but you'll find that most people aren't that devoted.
Having said that, I think you'll find that a lot (if not most) Americans have Oasis on their iPods. Whether it be Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, of Champagne Supernova, most Americans are at least familiar with one of those songs.

does anyone have that interview of Liam to CNN back in 2000? Couldn't find it anywhere. Anyways, right there, he tells us why Oasis is not appreciated in the US.

Honestly, I don't think many people know oasis are still a band in the the U.S. If Noel wrote a song as catchy as DLBIA, they'd be more popular. DBTT didn't really have any commercial songs. Maybe TIOBI. But even with the little promotion they have in the U.S., if they released a song as epic as Champagne Supernova, they'd be much more popular. Everyone bitches about publicity etc. Wrong. That's a fairly small part in my opinion.

Liam spitting on the stage at the '96 Mtv Music awards turned alot of americans off, which I infact found really funny. And the bands, esp Noel and Liam's, 'I can do whatever I want, piss off' attitude didn't help matters, but I'm the same way so I dig it. Also, some americans don't get the english's very dry, sarcastic sense of humour unless there's a 'laugh' track following their comments . And lastly, Oasis' singles, esp 'Wonderwall' and 'Champagne Supernova' were completely overplayed on american radio stations.

Music is music. It's the reason I can listen to "Basket Case" even though I'd llike to throw Green Day off a building. If it's there and it's good, people will listen. The problem is Oasis can't even get their music out there in the US. Why? They'll never be interviewed on TV (esp live), and most radio stations are afraid to interview them because they don't feel like being fined. Well if their name isn't out there through that promotion and publicity, then how can you expect anyone new to catch on to them??

I would say Radiohead is the only English band more popular than Oasis at the moment. Coldplay is sinking in popularity and in ten years won't be looked upon as successful as either band. As for radio airplay, I feel bad for you guys in NY or anywhere that doesn't play them because Boston stations (92.9 and 101.7) play them all the time! I hear Champagne Supernova at least twice a week!

Coldplay gets regular rotation of their videos on MTV and VH1, Oasis gets none. Coldplay gets alot of airplay on modern rock stations and some top 40 stations. Oasis gets some airplay on modern rock stations and haven't had a song on a top 40 station since Wonderwall. So how are they bigger than Coldplay here?
