In the future, the chances are that noel will be singing more songs, do you think this means he might leave riffs/ solos etc to gem?
After all there arent much big songs which had riffs and singing AT THE SAME TIME and solos didnt come across very complex, the most difficult in my opinion would have had to been DLBIA. (where noel sings normally)
Personally i think gem is a more skilled guitarist. Even on the Carbarette Sauvage (forgive my bad spelling!) his simple riffs and variations to the originals were so refreshing.
Imagine Supersonic or live forever??......
I would imagine that gem wouldnt play in the same way as noel which would be great seeing as noel has being playin the exact same solos and riffs since 95, Cig and alcohol, Supersonic, live4ever, rock n roll star etc etc

I've noticed that Gem does do quite a bit of lead, especially on the Noel sung songs.
I think when the band used to play DLBIA in the early days, both Noel and Bonehead seemed to play rhythm while Noel was singing, as i think back then Noel struggled to play lead while singing.
But now i think Gem helps out quite a bit.
It made me laugh when Noel once said in an interview, he would hope both Gem and Andy would take over all the guitar, so he could play bass, as it was easier only having 4 strings.

You know what, there is a really good version of Gem playing lead guitar on Live Forever on youtube from one of their concerts in 2000 when Noel dropped out of the tour. It sounded like it was lifted straight from the original album version. Really good.
I do think Gem can do a lot more on his guitar on the stage. But the question is if Noel allows him to do it?

I disagree. Noel's mixed up some of the solos over the years. He's tinkered with Live Forever, Champagne Supernova, Morning Glory, etc...

Some dual lead would be nice too. Morning Glory from V-Festival 05 sort of sounds like Gem and Noel are trading licks, though it could be just Noel or just Gem.

I also believe that Gem is a better guitar player, but I believe he really holds himself up... I mean, at the acoustic gigs with Noel, he didn't make anything different from the original versions... in his songs there are some really simple solos (ABWR and Eyeball tickler)... when Noel left during the SOTSOG tour he didn't come up with anything new... I wish he explored his potential.... But I rather see Noel doing solos like Live Forever and CS, they are just beautiful and sounds right that he perform them... bgut then again, Gem did a great job playing the Slide Away solo during the Brotherly Love Tour... I guess there's a tendency that he performs more and more solos on the new songs (Go Let It Out, Who Feels Love, WDIAGR, LBL), so noel can focus on the vocals... but the prblem is that since BHN we don't have much great solos which makes me feel like Gem could be more useful...

I think Gem is a better guitarist than Noel, and really should play more lead. His guitar work on Noel's solo tour was very good, I thought.

If Noel cared about getting the best sound, he'd play bass and let Andy and Gem -- two far superior guitarists -- on guitar.

i dont get why gem and andy are "far superior" i haven't heard anything that shows me how they're superior. they all are mediocre guitarists.

If Noel cared about getting the best sound, he'd play bass and let Andy and Gem -- two far superior guitarists -- on guitar. First of all, they do all trade off in the studio. So Noel does play the bass and let Gem and Andy play some guitar. We just have no idea which songs they did what on. Also, while I agree Andy is a better guitarist and maybe even Gem, how can you say they are "far superior"? That's just stupid. Noel's still a very respectable guitarist. And last I checked, Gem and Andy weren't exactly Clapton.
