Dennis was a derelict when he saved a starving Alsatian he named Oscar Schindler. The two formed a remarkable showbusiness partnership that led to salvation for both of them.

His owner spotted him when he was less than a year old, undernourished, shivering and filthy, tied up with rope outside a drug dealer's house in London.

Most nights you would find Oscar Gill down at The Met Bar, hanging out with his celebrity mates.

He knew everyone. He was great friends with Hollywood A-listers such as George Clooney, Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta; his pop star pals included Robbie Williams, the Gallagher brothers and Lionel Richie........


A few weeks after the pair became acquainted, Dennis and Oscar got off a bus on Park Lane after a night in Central London selling the Big Issue.

Ahead of them, outside The Metropolitan, there was a commotion, with flashbulbs going off and a group of photographers vying for pictures.

Out of curiosity, Dennis and Oscar went to investigate and saw Noel and Liam Gallagher from the band Oasis, along with Patsy Kensit, then Liam's wife.

As Dennis was asking if they wanted to buy the Big Issue, Oscar ran up to the Gallagher brothers to say hello.

'They were very friendly to Oscar,' recalls Dennis. 'I had some dog biscuits with me, so I handed one to Patsy Kensit so she could give it to Oscar, but she ate it herself instead.

'I was so stunned I couldn't think of anything to say. But Liam put a £20 in Oscar's collar and said it was for something to eat for us.'

Now, showbusiness is in mourning following the sad news of Oscar's passing.

He died on Sunday aged 12 following a battle with cancer.
