hello again was just revisiting dbtt and i recall seeing quite a bit of negatism on here about 'keep the dream alive' .. . i can't understand why this is, i think it's a great tune,, that: 1- some say it's too long, well i like how it just keeps on going, and liam's 'na na na ' part near the end is great, , followed by the electric guitars just pouring it on and on until it finally breaks down to fade - also this: it is good to have a song 5 minutes plus on this album to round things out, since many of the songs are 3-4 mins. (and mos even shorter than that) 2-a few people on here say that it was poorly produced, but i disagree with this also. i feel that sardy did a fantastic job with the post-production, especially with the chorus , helping liam a bit to sound like the 'vintage' liam i recall on the dvd i think it was gem that said that you could ride yer car off the side of a cliff to this song! great comment that, i totally agree, also this is the type of tune that you could picture running on a movie while the end credits are rolling, similar to robert plant's 'big log' don't get me wrong i am not one of those 'fan boys' who go crazy about anything and everything that oasis puts out,, (i don't particularly like ltbl, i feel that one of liam's best vocals in years was wasted on that dreadful number) agree? disagree? comments welcome, as always glad to be here, madferit! thanks for your time. cheers!

I love the song. One of my favourite of DBTT. Great chorus. I think, if it was Noel or Liam, it would've been a single, the first or the second. About the production, it's an old thing: Noel, since BHN, didn't want the "f*cking epic" sound anymore. If this song surfaced before 1997, it would've done with the "wall of sound" treatment, and I think it would've been massive.

The production really ruined it. It sounds like a long outro from the second chorus and on. I hope a demo serfaces someday cos the tune itself is amazing.

It is a good song, and it's typical Oasis - just like Lyla
Just feels to me like Stand By Me 2.0 -- not a bad thing mind
I am dissapointed with the production of KTDA though. It just sounds too.....rough? jaded? - dont know the right word, but the tune would have benefited with better production imo
The only real weak songs on DBTT are
Mucky Fingers (good lyrics, good live, just boring on the album) Let there be Love (Good lyrics, but Noel made a mistake and should have made the song bigger) A Bell Will Ring (Worst on the album -- it's too fucking preachy)
EDIT: The lyrics for KTDA are fantastic though

Mucky Fingers gets better with age. LTBL is a classic for me. A Bell Will Ring is the weakest probably but its a good tune i'm liking it more. KTDA is great. The guitars are so "Shining". Its also Zaks drumming in this one is very solid, it sounds like Alan though (thats a good thing for me) Liam's vocals are also quite strong

How can some of you people say A Bell Will Ring is the worst song on the album ?? That song is one of the only timeless songs on DBTT. The lyrics are great and the music is awesome. I can't believe people bash this song. If Liam wrote it than I guess it would be one of the greatest songs on our lifetime.
The Meaning of Soul is by far the worst song on DBTT. It's one of their worst songs on any album. The lyrics are stupid and the music is ok.
About KTDA, I do remember people bashing it by I didn't understand it. I still enjoy the song 'til this day. It's a really uplifting song and it's what Oasis is all about in my opinion.

KTDA is an awesome song. Brilliant structure, rhythm, solo...As complete of a song as there was on DBTT.

And 'keep the dream alive' hasn't been preached by athletes and teachers everywhere The only line that bothers me in ABWR is the 'all will be brand new' bit. But the rest of the lyrics are arguably the best lyrics on the album. If Noel wrote this song people would go absolutely nuts over how good a song it is. The guitar work throughout the song is as good as anything on DBTT and like I said, the lyrics are top as well. 'Keep the Dream Alive' tries a bit too much to be uplifting and positive. To me, it always seems like Andy Bell trying to write his own Live Forever. KTDA is definitely a quality tune. But ABWR does not deserve the criticism that it gets.

Not only with the vocals and energy, but attitude and arrogance. MOS sums up what Liam is about perfectly. And its a top tune to play when youre pissed off.

Oasis have always been preachy and simple thats what makes them great.... they are not radiohead, never will be....KTDA is a perfect non Noel Oasis song... way uplifting, thats what I always loved about Oasis...they can make you feel like your flying just by listening to a song.

My favorite non-Noel Oasis song. ... just wish Andy had written a second verse... and na na's are lame... but overall it's amazing.

thanks a lot for all the replys guys (and gals!) guess more people like this song than i thought! here's one more thing i forgot to mention in my original post: noel's backing vocals on this song are ACE,, probably some of his best ever. (but perhaps that is another thread in intself haha!)

You seem to be forgetting Liam wrote 'Little James' for a young child, not the intellectually elite like yourself. I bet even little James, who had been enjoying the song up until that point, cocked his head at Liam with a "Really? Is that the best we can do?" look on his face at that point.

I remember buying the album and just listening through it with no idea of who wrote what song. I thought Keep the Dream Alive was a sort of Liver Forever reprise on first listen: Similar lyrical sentiments, similar driving feel. I was surprised to learn it wasn't a Noel song. I like it a lot.
For the record, I do think that A Bell Will Ring is the worst song on DBTT. It just seemed like a an excuse to get a Gem song on the album. Not a lot of substance there.

I seriously can't believe the hate for ABWR. An 'excuse to put a Gem song on the album'.
MOS is terrible. Absolutely terrible. It's one of Oasis' worst songs ever. If Noel would have written that song than I would have never claimed to have liked the band because I would be embarrassed. '10 out of 10 all night' ?? Really ?? That's lame.
ABWR is the closest thing to the Beatles on DBTT and it's a nice breathe of fresh air. It isn't just chords. It's nice guitar work with really nice lyrics.
But the same people who hate ABWR probably think The Hindu Times was a good song. And no, Hindu Times is not a good song. It was Noel trying to recreate Rock n' Roll Star and failing miserably. Plus, if he's going to blatantly rip off the Kelly Jones' riff from 'Same Size Feet' than I think he could have done much better than that. THT is a bit contrived and MOS is a bit lame.

First of all, it's 10 out of 10 ALRIGHT...which makes a big difference when you think about it making sense. Liam isn't ever going to write Live Forever...He writes rambling songs but some of them are catchy. LLAB is a fuckin great song. Brilliat lyrics..."You turn me on/Your love's like a bomb/You're blowing my mind"...That's just as good as anything Noel would write. But Gem obv helped a great deal I'm sure. Second of all, how is ABWR the most Beatles sounding song on DBTT? TUTS?? LTBL? LLAB? ABWR has a 60's drum beat but that's all I hear as far anything related to the Beatles goes.

I like both KTTA, even if there are some little things that should've been better (I think it hasn't the epic feeling it should've had, but it's quite a common thing for Oasis in their last album: "Born on a different cloud", "Let there be love", e.g). ABWR is a good tune, maybe too "retro", but I love it. I think in the live rendition it kicked asses.

Are you going to defend that line as well ?? It's lame. Also, I'm not bashing Liam's songs. I love LLAB. It's one of my favorite tunes on DBTT. I'm just saying that when Liam writes an average song, like MOS, people go nuts and overrate because Liam wrote it. People are obsessed with him. But he does write good songs. I like BOAD, LLAB, GGTIA, and Songbird. But MOS is just lame and it's definitely one of the worst, if not the worst, on DBTT. And yea, I probably stretched it out a bit with ABWR being the most Beatlesque on the album. But imo it's still one of the best songs on the album and it's far better than MOS. I just think they tried to make it too 'raw' with the production. I think just a little more could have been done to it.

when i first heard I really dig KTDA... the part where Liam sings "I'll keep the dream alive" just makes me feel good... but with time I got bored woth the, usually skipping it... the last solo is great, but I'm not a fan of the "na-na-na-na" in this song...

"I'm a different breed, I'm outta your league" And so you dont keep fucking it up, here's the full lyrics: ---------- I gotta show you, man The meaning of soul I'm taking on love tonight Get out of my way I dig what you say But that ain't enough, alright I'm a different breed I'm outta your league I'm 10 out of 10, alright Get out of my way I dig what you say But that ain't enough, alright All rise I see the love in your eyes If its alright Then I'll be your light ------------- It's a rocking tune. It's filled with energy and attitude. And those lyrics aren't bad at all. You dont get it if you think they're bad lyrics. Look at the title - The Meaning of Soul....now re-read the lyrics....lyrics match what the song is about to perfection.
