Inspired by the I Can See A Liar thread on this forum, I've decided to write this:
I really love this album!!! It really is an underrated album, that don't get the respect it deserves.
Fair enough, it includes a few average songs like Little James and I Can See A Liar, but it also includes some of their best songs. Go Let It Out was the songs that got me into Oasis in the first place. One of my favorites! And Gas Panic!, well, that song is truly fantastic! They should do this on the new tour.
Those two is my favorites on the album. But Roll It Over, Sunday Morning Call, and Where Did It All Go Wrong is also very good songs!!!
My only complaint about this album, is the fact that Let's All Make Believe is not on it. Other than that, it's a strong album with It's own unique "dark" sound.

'This is for everyone who smokes pot'
yes, gas panic is one of my favorites, really great vocalization by liam on that one. Also, i refuse to jump on the bandwagon of hating 'little james'. It may be somewhat immmature lyrically, but it doesn't prevent it from being uplifting and enjoyable to listen to. Great album, there are tracks on there that definitely add another dimension to the Oasis catalogue.

Let me just clear something up from my first post: I'm no Little James hater. It really is an important song, after all it is Liams first song released on an album. But for me, it's no Songbird, which I think is miles better. For me Little James is an alright song.
Another thing about the SOTSOG era which I think is brilliant, is the tour!!! It's a shame I didn't see them live back then.

SOTSOG is the album that got me into Oasis.
Go let it out is a tune. So is Who feels love? Gas panic! Roll it over and FITB. Infact all the songs are good, its just lyrically the album is a let down at times. Imagine if this was the tracklisting though:-
FITB Go let it out Who feels love? Revolution song Little James (with new lyrics) Gas Panic! WDIAGW? Sunday morning call I can see a liar (with new lyrics) Lets all make believe Roll it over
That would've been a mega album in my opinion!

Is everyone forgetting "Let's All Make Believe" ? One of THE BEST B-sides they have ever released.
I fucking love the album to no end. It shows the best and worst of Oasis, and could have been their last album...but it showed a new edge of maturity that has since been noticeably present in their work.
They could have packed it up right there - I mean, the band was pretty much broken up. Britpop was dead. The album got less than enthusiastic reviews, and is the worst selling of all their albums. But they got through it, and still amaze us today.
It was a change in sound, one which I love and wish the band would try again once in awhile. I'm eagerly awaiting the new album, with Noel claiming songs like "Stop The Clocks" and "I Wanna Live A Dream In My Record Machine" being more "groovy" and psychedelic. Hopefully these songs will ring reminiscent of the SOTSOG sound. (But I'm still hoping for the heavy, rocking sound similar to Be Here Now that they promised, hehe.)

SOTSOG frustrates me. It's very good, but I feel it could have been a classic if they've given it more thought; IE include LAMB and rethink some of the songs (keep WDIAGW acoustic, rewrite some of th lyrics). Still a great album though.

Although Let's All Make Believe is mentioned in pretty much all of this threads posts. So I guess all members of this board could agree Let's All Make Believe should be on SOTSOG.

I notice that everyone seems to dislike PYMWYMI, but its actually on of my favorite songs on this album Granted, theirs not a lot of creativity in the lyrics, but i really dig the vibe of the song

My fav Oasis album behind DM (ex aequo with BHN since I got into Oasis with that album) I kinda like Little James, it's naive and cute i guess and ICSAL rocks! stupid lyrics but the song is about the energy so it's fine

I played SOTSOG more when it came out than I did HC or DBTT. This would be my dream tracklisting for that album:
1. FITB 2. Go Let It Out 3. Let's All Make Believe 4. Revolution Song (with Liam on lead vox and loads of strings) 5. Gas Panic! 6. Carry Us All (with Liam on lead vox) 7. Where Did It All Go Wrong? 8. Sunday Morning Call (but get rid of that f*cking choir effect) 9. I Can See A Liar (keeping the energy but with different lyrics) 10. Roll It Over (same tune but with slightly better lyrics)
I thought it was a good album but they missed a bit of an opportunity on this one. Noel had enough good songs to make it a truly great album but he either didn't use them, wrote shit lyrics for them or chucked them away as B-sides.

Noel should have worked some more on the b-sides. Full On with Liam on vox would have been a real belter!!! I also think they should have used Revolution Song, but apparently Blur came out with Tender, so according to Noel, they dropped it from the album or something like that.

SOTSOG could be my second favorite oasis album on a really good day (so could all the others but to a less extent(DBTT, BHN, DM) except for HC) ... Its amazing that LSMB didn't make it and i thought one way road should have too got one of Noels purest vocals. I liked Spikes production on most of the tracks.

Going by the tiny little bits we've heard from the lads, Gas Panic sounds like it might be the blueprint for the new album - bit groovy, lots of guitars, different sort of sound. Although I'm not a big fan at all of SOTSOG, an album of Gas Panic's would be pretty amazing!

For me, what really hurts SOTSOG is the one two punch of Sunday Morning Call and Where Did it All Go Wrong. It stops the album dead in its tracks. I prefer WDIAGW but the studio version is Weller trad-rock (Weller is awsome), it doesn't fit with the album vibe. I do like the demo version alot. Only one of these tracks should have made the album.
I completely agree that Let's All Make Believe should have been an album track but it is so similar in vibe to Roll It Over it becomes difficult to sequence it.

I think the "Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is" is the only song that really hurt SOTSOG.
So here's what I would have liked to hear on SOTSOG 1) Fucking In The Bushes 2) Go Let It Out 3) Who Feels Love? 4) Revolution Song 5) Lets All Make Believe 6) Little James 7) Gas Panic 8) Where Did It All Go Wrong? 9) Sunday Morning Call 10) I Can See a Liar 11) Roll It Over
I think Little James isn't really the best on the album, but it's the most important
