Yes, I love that particular line myself. But I'm kinda torn between this song and Flashbax to which is the best Noel sung song from that period. Flashbax is a cracking tune Don't care for the whistle solo, but a great song

I'm pretty sure he heard it somewhere, and it fit into the melody, so he used, whit absolutely no specific meaning

To me magic pie is about his songwriting ability. Its about how he has a talent that will keep him going. Theres an australian story called the magic pudding, which this song has always reminded me of, its kind of like a pie type thing that never runs out. But i might just be trippin

To me magic pie is about his songwriting ability. Its about how he has a talent that will keep him going. i agree with this and was about to write the same thing till i read it above! its about his talent/genius getting him by.its like noels strwaberry fields. 'an extraorindary guy can never have an ordinary day' is his 'no one i think is in my tree, i mean it must be high or low'

come on, Magic Pie is the opposite of Humble Pie. It really isn't that hard to figure out or make sense of. And that makes much more sense then his song writing ability

In regards to the title, i think it's most likely a combination of magic mushrooms, and what headshrinker (or whatever his name is these day's is talking about.

how does the opposite of humble pie make more sense? listen to the lyrics in context. plus noel has consistently said that he regards his songwriting ability as a gift or his meal ticket that made his life 'extraordinary' (to quote the song). its not so mysterious imo. its natural that noel should have thought on this subject, and yes indeed, written a song about it.
i do agree that he most likley got the image of magic pie from john lennons bit about the flaming pie and the beatles, as this is discussed on the bealtles anthology documentary which was screened in between morning glory and bhn. also noel used countless lazy beatles references throughout bhn.

It clearly makes sense. Humble Pie is when you admit defeat, and admit that you're wrong. However, if you listen to the song lyrics, the tune itself is about reaching the top, getting the victory, if you will -- "I'll have my way in my own time, I'll have my say cos my star will shine"...."BECAUSE YOU SEE MY I HAVE MY MAGIC PIE" No way is it about his song writing ability

his star will shine because he writes songs! hes got his magic pie! not the formal education he refers to in the second verse.....

To expand on what I was saying before, having looked at the lyrics a little more closely, I think it seems like it was written pre-fame or about how he felt pre fame, 'I was that passer by', just an ordinary guy, but he knows that he's got a magic pie, a songwriting gift and thats going to take him places, 'my star will shine'. Having said that I think its very open to interpretation because noel's lyrics are often very ambiguous.

i haven't read any of the posts so i don't know if someones said it already, but i remember reading in a couple places that Noel got the name cause he was looking in a rhyming dictionary and came across the word MAGPIE...which is actually a bird. and then i remember reading his quote was something like "i remember thinking 'oh well that conjurs up some things now doesn't it'" in regard to magpie. anyways don't if somebody already said it. hope it clears it all up

by the way, anybody analyzing "magic pie" for lyrical meaning and content really ought to change their priorities in life.

Magic Pie means: "Wa-hey! I have taken LOTS of drugs! WA-HEY! DRUGS! I will make this song 7 minutes long! Wa-hey! DRUGS!"
Anything else is pure speculation.
