Apparently the crowd wasn't very into the song and they aren't a great live band

Beautiful (especially the beginning with the crowd singing. Some similarity to Oasis, eh? ) Frankly, I love the Arctic Monkeys and I think Alex Turner is a genius. I didn't witness Oasis' beginning, so I don't think I can compare these two very well. All I can say is that no other band does to me what Oasis does, the Arctic Monkeys included.

does an acoustic version of 'when the sun goes down' exist?

does an acoustic version of 'when the sun goes down' exist? I'm afraid not. At least I couldn't find one.

Nothing compares to an Oasis sing-along. When the AM have a tune that people react to a sing along to lime Wonderwall and DLBIA I will acknowledge them as equals.

The music is totally different. Noel wrote/writes songs which are made to be sing alongs, hymns. The songs on WPSIATWIN (which some here see on par with DM) are a lot faster and hardly "hymns" to which a big crowd can easily sing along. DLBIA is the perfect example for such a tune. Comparisons like that never lead to something.

does an acoustic version of 'when the sun goes down' exist? In short, yes. They played it at the Kerrang! session in late 2005, along with Bigger Boys And Stolen Sweethearts and Mardy Bum. It was largely available online around then, but is nowhere to be found , seemingly lost. They no longer have the rights to stream or air the songs, so it may never be heard.

Nothing compares to an Oasis sing-along. When the AM have a tune that people react to a sing along to lime Wonderwall and DLBIA I will acknowledge them as equals. I completely disagree, I think its rather naive to judge the Arctic Monkeys on that; their music is far from trying to be anthemic. Closest they get to an "anthem" is the opening of When the sun goes down, and that's a part that always gets sung-along to. On another note, Suck it and See keeps on getting better and better for me, and I already really loved it from day one. She's thunderstorms, The Hellcat Shalalalala and especially All my own Stunts are some of the best songs I've heard lately.

I don't understand how this thread got 10 pages.
1: The music is different 2: AM are nowhere near as big as Oasis was 3: Even AM deny that they're the voice of their generation
So: no.
May I post a picture of bunneh?

I'm really liking Suck It And See right now. I think it's one of the 7 best albums of the year. It's quite brilliant. The songwriting has significantly gone up, and they are definitely showing musical growth.
I can't compare them Oasis though. AM are a great band for their time, but I don't think they'll ever make the quality of tunes that Oasis made during their hey day. Anthemic or not. Oasis made b-sides that most people would gladly put on their greatest hits, much less albums. The AM have made great songs, but nothing as impactful as some of the best Oasis songs.
It really is an unfair comparison for AM. They're truly great and talented band in their own right, and shouldn't have to suffer a comparison to Oasis. A comparison that they basically already lose, without even starting.
AM are a great band, but obviously not Oasis. That's not to say that they're bad. Which always touchy in these situations. Because people assume that because you're saying that "they're not as good", then you're automatically saying that "they're bad'. I'm not saying that in the slightest. AM are a great band, just not Oasis. And really, "who could be?"

But thankfully being known in America doesn't mean anything. Look at KoL they were brilliant when they were unknown in America, then they became popular over there when the music went shit.

their 2nd album had just put them off the boil.
AM had it with their 1st album, but this 2nd album just hasn't done them any favours

To be honest I think it all depends on each person. For me Arctic Monkeys first album captures perfectly what it's like being a teenager/young adult these days.

I love the arctic monkeys! I don't know why they don't make big gigs! I think that they could fill one wembley, They couldn't. I went to both O2 gigs at the weekend (even chose them over Noel) and the second date wasn't sold out. So that's not even 40,000.

Alex Turner, like him or not, is one of greatest songwriters alive today under 30. Listen to those Submarine tracks above, and it's impossible to disagree.
They are one of my favorite bands at the moment, and I sincerely hope that they don't take a couple years off like they have said. Hopefully a Last Shadow Puppets or another solo effort is released in the time being.
Suck It And See is a great album, and I don't see how it's getting some hate. Each song is fantastic, IMO. I can't believe they're not more popular here in the US.
