Steve Staunton has refused to respond to Roy Keane's latest criticism of the Republic of Ireland set-up.
Keane has criticised his former Republic team-mate's selections and claimed that Staunton picks players on reputation rather than form.
"He has his own opinions, and that's his opinion," Staunton said.
"Roy has done a wonderful job at Sunderland. That's his job - he picks his team. I've my team here, and I'll pick mine."
Staunton refused to comment on whether he was disappointed at Keane for airing his views, or whether such comments could be used positively to fire up his side as the prepare for the first ever football international at Croke Park.
"That's the end of it," insisted Staunton.
"It's not about Roy Keane. It's about Ireland playing a qualifying game on Saturday. I've nothing more to say. That's it. End of story."
Privately, Staunton cannot have been impressed with Keane's bitter accusations, although not that they are friends in any respect.
Staunton was one of three players who sat alongside former Republic manager Mick McCarthy the day he explained his reasons for sending Keane home following their infamous bust-up in Saipan ahead of the 2002 World Cup.
Asked whether the game against Wales this weekend was win or bust, Staunton replied: "A draw is of no use.
"I've said that all along. You have to win your home games - this is a home game and we have to win it."

was at the game today... poor game no doubt
BUT; 2 positive notes:
1- when stephen hunt came on, he looked excellent coming forward, he gave it a go and it worked out most times for him
2- Keane's comments seemed to have worked something... I remember Gilesey the other night commenting that Keanos comments were ill timed; i believe to the contrary, that they were exactly what the team needed coming up to this game...
Still though, very difficult to reflect on Ireland's performance given the utter ineptitude of Wales to capitalise on any of our mistakes; roll on Wednesday in Croker and a proper test!
(Ireland are awful under Stan so far, there is little doubt on that)

any spare tickets feck?? 'fraid not MG! Got the 4 for Wales Slovakia Germany & Cyprus in a package, fairly handy! The Slovakia game will be a proper test Certainly want to go to the game against Wales in the Millenium in November, even if we're out I'd say it'd be great craic! And shouldn't be too hard to get tickets, can't see Wales selling out their allocation at that stage We still have a chance to qualify after the Germans beat the Czechs mind; you never know! (But then again we do have Spacktastic Stan at the helm!)

(But then again we do have Spacktastic Stan at the helm!) ;D one thing that has been quite clear since Keane came to sunderland is just how brutally honest and astute he is. I havent followed Ireland closely lately but they do seem to have gone backwards, wouldnt surprise me if Keane was spot on...

Yea I was in the lower Cusack, in this seat: Good 1st half but dreadful in the 2nd. No threat till Hunt and Long came on. Very dissapointed with McGeady and Ireland last night. Dunne, Doyle and Given were the best players on the pitch, the papers i was reading today were saying Duff was great but I didn't see that, good movement in the 1st half from him but wasn't there in the 2nd half.
