Kelly Smith believes the England Women's team are capable of winning the World Cup following a successful warm-up tournament in China.
England have qualified for the finals for the first time since Sweden 1995 and prepared for September's tournament by playing in the China Cup recently.
The Three Lions lost 2-0 to the highly-rated Chinese hosts in their opening game but drew 0-0 with Germany and 1-1 with the United States after that.
Now Arsenal midfielder Smith, who was outstanding in China, believes the team has huge potential.
Speaking at the launch of the new Umbro England kit in Manchester yesterday she said: “I definitely believe we can win the World Cup - we are going there with that mentality. Once you get through the group stage anything can happen, it’s a one-off game situation.
“We have to prepare the right way and we’ve been doing that in the build-up to China, playing the very best teams in the world. I don’t see any reason why we can’t go on and win it."
Smith was impressed with the way England handled both the heat and the opposition in China and believes the experience will help when they return to the same country for the World Cup in September.
She said: "We were out there for 10 days. We lost the first game 2-0 to China but we got good results against the World champions Germany and also drew against the USA, who are ranked second.
"The England Women's team is young and up-and-coming and we're really looking forward to our first World Cup in 12 years."

England Women 6-0 Russia Women
England stepped up their preparations for September's World Cup final with a dominant win over Russia.
Three goals in the first 25 minutes set England on their way as Alex Scott scored from 20 yards before Eni Aluko and Karen Carney hit from close range.
Arsenal's Kelly Smith slid home from Carney's cross to make it four just before half-time in Milton Keynes.
Rachel Yankey turned in the fifth after the break and then Casey Stoney looped in a 40-yard shot 10 minutes from time.
In the three previous meetings between the two nations England had failed to collect a victory.
But Hope Powell's team recorded their biggest win since a record 13-0 hammering of Hungary in October 2005.
England now face Scotland on Sunday and then go on to meet Holland the following Wednesday.

England Women 1-0 Scotland Women A goal by Everton midfielder Fara Williams gave England their 19th victory in 20 meetings with Scotland. But a team showing nine changes from Thursday night's 6-0 win against Russia struggled at times against a battling Scottish side. The fluency shown against the Russians was never in evidence in a largely disjointed display. And in the second half, Scotland twice went close to cancelling out William's 30th-minute goal. With Williams to the fore, however, England bossed the first half. The Everton player had a sixth-minute header cleared off the line by Hibernian midfielder Kirsty McBride. She then went close again when her 16th-minute header flew inches over the bar. But she was bang on target on the half-hour, directing a 40-yard lob over back-peddling goalkeeper Gemma Fay and into the roof of the net. Soccer Locker midfielder Ifeoma Dieke wasted a close-range equalising chance three minutes later. But at the other end, either side of half-time, wingers Alex Scott and Sue Smith sent shots just wide of the post. The Scots began to take control midway through the second half, however. And England had a narrow escape when Arsenal striker Julie Fleeting's 68th-minute free-kick was pushed on to the bar by substitute goalkeeper Carly Telford. Telford pulled of an even better save five minutes later, diving to turn McBride's 15-yard drive past the far post. But the visitors' challenge faded in the closing stages and Sunderland right-back Steph Houghton almost stretched England's lead with an 83rd-minute volley over the bar.
