What has been the best/most memorible world cup that you have lived through? I know theres a few more matches left in this one and something major could happen. But for me it was France '98, had Zidane at his best as he led Le Blues to their firt World title on home soil. Had the flair of the Brazilians as always, drama - who can forget the England-Argentina match! Suprises as in Croatia and Paraguay, stunning goals, Dennis Bergkamp - i'll say no more. Red cards (a lot). Only down point was Ireland weren't involved. The others for me: 2:USA94: Ireland beating Italy, Razor Houghton, can still remember him doing the tumble after scoring, Paul McGrath playing out of his skin and the start of my idolistion of Keano. Remember the country going mad aswell, Big Jack,Aldo and a linesman. Roberto Baggio, Stoichkov, Whole Brazil team, Maradonas drug shame, Even Columbians shooting their players. Some good football to top it off. 3:This one, some great games (also some poor ones), Africian teams really suprising people, France powering through after a slow start, Penalties, Argintine team goal - one of the best ever. Dirty matches, drama (as always), A lot of the favorites going out and still more to come. 4:Japan/Korea: OK, Ireland got their biggest ever win in a WC, but apart from cracking goals this was crap. Ireland should have done so much better and a serious chance of dare i say it, a place in the final, The sham of refereeing decisions that help elimitate Spain and Italy. Eventual winner Brazil were the only bright spark here with Ronaldo & Ronaldinho on fire. Too many shit teams in this one made poor games. As for Italia 90, I remember of it but can't actually remember any of the matches at the time. Of course i seen highlights of them, but can't remember it properly, so i've lived through 4 world Cup so far. Wish i could relive this one, even thogh it was pretty poor football, Ireland making the 1/4 finals is something else. As for Mexico '86 i was only 2

1990 was a poor world cup alright, I remember well enough, I'd just started to get interested in football.....
Ireland v Romania, Ireland v Egypt (together with Ukraine Switzerland in '06) have to go down as some of the worst games ever to inflict on human beings....... Although the buzz in Ireland meant that meant jack shit!
For quality France '98 was ace.... Although '06 hasn't been bad, good teams have gone far, unlike the farce that was 2002. Should we have spectacular semi finals and a good final '06 will go down as one of the best... If the remaining 3 games (I don't count the 3/4 place play off) are poor, the whole tournament will probably be remembered as poor

Only really took notice form 98 onwards though I saw a bit of 94. Have to say i think 98 was the best tournament, it was such a shame that Ronaldo was not fit for the final and a disgrace that he was forced to play. I think the French, Brazilian and Dutch teams of 98 are all better than the teams of the last 2 world cups.
the last 2 tournaments have been good but I think south Korea had far to many decision go their way in 2002 and it cheated teams out of the competition.
As for this tournament, I think it has been good but far to many yellow cards, given due to crap rules from FIFA. I think Figo not being given a lengthy ban for head butting was a disgrace. I have to say overall no team has really got going, no real standouts. Germany have played well, France have suddenly woken up. Portugal and Italy are good but not great and Brazil like England just never turned up.

USA '94 for me, I was just the age when all you think about is your toys and football.
I was really excited about the colombian national team, it's a shame the way it ended up, but I enjoyed it a lot anyway. Il Codino and Romario face to face, best final ever!

I have seen 3 world cups(although i have lived through 4) and this one is my favourite. So many great goals and there haven't been many poor games. I've just loved how virtually every team has chipped in to perform open football and create exciting matches. The Italy vs USA game was superb and is my favourite of the tournamnet so far. It has been more quiet recently but it is has been superb to watch so far. And every nation in the semis are good teams packed with stars.
France 98 was a very close 2nd. I loved the football on offer and the England vs Argentina game was a terrific game although we lost and went out too early. I loved Holland and Brazil too and their semi final game remains one of the finest I have ever seen. Kluivert vs Ronaldo at the time was massive. And france were great too although the final was rubbish as brazil didn't turn up. I rate this lower also because i missed a lot of the games cos i was at school although this tournament got me football mad.
2002 was good as well but too many big teams went out early. As soon as England went out I lost interest because teams like South Korea got to the semis by luck. It was great to see the country so happy but we want the best teams left in the end and they werent one of them, neither were Turkey. England played one good game against Argentina but were really boring otherwise and germany fluked their way to the final. Also the timezone didn't help as the games latest start was 12 in the afternoon and earliest was 7. I actually think if England would have beaten Brazil, they would have won this world cup.

Italy 90...
I just wish everyone to see a WC played in his own country and to experience the incredible atmosphere!
Probably the level was not the highest (France 98 was way better), but I have special memories connected to that WC, altough the ending was not happy for us (fuckin' peanlties...)

Italy 1990 was the best World Cup for me, the stadiums, the amosphere in a country who lives for football like us. Matches I still remember? Italy vs USA, Argentina vs Brazil, Germany vs Holland, Argentina vs Italy.

Yeah great memories when you were 5! All I remember is the atmosphere, and it was incredible I watched the matches years later on TV and they were amazing. Great icons of football were there (Maradona, Careca, Matthaeus, Baggio, etc...)

I do remember of the game against Argentina in '90, but do not remember the rest as I was 8. But I gotta go with 2002. Brazil was in top form.

Italia 90.
First WC I saw.
Still remember sitting in me front room, crying me eyes out after Pearce & Waddle missed.
