France coach Raymond Domenech has alleged that his players were subjected to racist taunts by Spanish fans before Tuesday's second-round match. He said: "When I arrived with the bus there were fans making monkey chants."
The claim seems certain to reignite the racism row that has plagued Spanish football in recent years.
In 2005 Spain coach Luis Aragones was fined for making racist remarks about France's Thierry Henry and players have suffered racist abuse in La Liga games.
Aragones' comments about Henry were the most high-profile and Henry was clearly delighted that France were able to beat the Spaniards in Hanover on Tuesday.
The Arsenal striker said: "A lot of people were speculating about Aragones and I don't want to talk about it because there is no point.
"But the best answer was the win."
In November 2004 Fifa fined the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) £44,750 after several England players were racially abused during a friendly match in Madrid.
And last year Real Zaragoza and Racing Santander fans racially abused Barcelona forward Samuel Eto'o during league matches and were subsequently fined by the RFEF.
Domenech's claims come on the day that Fifa warned they will suspend national associations who fail to impose tough new rules on racism that come into force in July.
Fifa president Sepp Blatter said the regulations - including docking points from clubs and countries whose fans are guilty of racism offences - were mandatory.
Blatter stated: "The first responsibilities lie with the national associations and if they are not doing what is expected of them then Fifa's executive committee must intervene.
"The power and the responsibility lies with Fifa and the suspension of a federation is the ultimate sanction available to the disciplinary committee."
He added: "This is a fight against a devil that still exists, unfortunately, in our sport."

apart from the stupid twats who do it, i blame FIFA when there is evidence of racist abuse from or in a certain country, FIFA usually just give them a ridiculous low fine, which means nothing to that country, it wouldnt even qualify as a slap on the wrist

It seems spain has a real problem. It may be a minority of people but it has happened on more than one occasion, and something has to be done about it.

It sucks and it has to end, clearly. But I have to say these people do it (mainly) to piss the other team's players off. THey don't really hate black people here, just the other team's black players.
I've never had any trouble because of my accent or my darker skin, and I've never seen anything like that on the street.

So what could be the solution? To give punishments to teams? It's not right imo that millions of supporters suffer because of a few hundreds idiots who wouldn't stop making this anyway! To identify the guilties? Very difficult, because they mix with REAL and GENUINE supporters...
Anyone has any idea?

To identify the guilties? In Rome you would have a empty curva nord and sud The same with the capo of the fangroups - if you would touch them, its gonna be war - so very difficult

This is what I was wondering ... I really hope there is! Probably Exactly... But let's talk in general and not about Rome in particular.

Here is the thing I don't understand, In the US we are supposed to be less cultured and less refined. If that ever happened in MLB, NFL or in the NBA, The league would shut down. Here we have it in Old world, culture rich europe ( I have seen it in EPL, Bundesliga, La Liga and Serie A games where there is monkey chants and bananas being thrown) and not much is done about it.

If you would shut down the league in Italy or England, you would have war on the streets - thats the problem - supporters are much more violent than in the States!

I don't disagre that it would go like that in Italy or England but the issue is that it exists period. And so publicly

In England our racist problems in general are behind us. We had huge problems in the past were monkey chants were common place. But now its only a handful of people in a handful of games and with all the cctv and tv cameras they are often arrested and banned from attending football matches. As for your point about closing the league down, it doesn’t really solve the wider cultural problems it would just move the racists to another sport.
