"Just like a baby, I can feel it when you lie to me." That's some heavy shit, man.
And to think only two years previously Sly had written (for sister Rose to sing) "Everybody is a star. I can feel it when you shine on me."

Every now and then you come across a song that should've been a massive worldwide hit, but wasn't. Unfortunately in this case it's because it's not in English. I really do hate how English has undisputed global hegemony. That's why I couldn't help but smile when Despacito topped the charts in the US, and BTS debuted at number one on the US albums chart. Believe it or not, but English isn't the only language!

Same goes for this song. In a better society, it wouldn't matter what language a song is sung in for it to become popular.

On the subject of Weller, this was a great hidden gem of his from the year 2000: Guessing he was talking about Neil Kinnock, Kev Livingstone, and the rest of those careerist Labour politicians--"monsters" he later called them--he came into contact with when he joined in with Billy Bragg's Red Wedge movement in the 80s with that lyric.
