I had high expectations for rock this year, I thought it was going to be huge. Looking back now, I must say DBTT holds up really well compared to the other releases of 2005. There haven't really been ANY huge hits (outside of Coldplay's first week), no one has really staked a claim to best band in the world. I don't think the Foos album really overwhelmed anyone, and best of you kind of sucks. Bad lead single choice. Weezer had some good tunes but they still seem like a cultish band to me, never to sell 5 million or anything. Coldplay's album has proven to be just dull, though there is obviously some good stuff on there. Ryan Adams kind of regressed in my opinion, so much filler! But that's his prerogerative. White Stripes don't seem to have populist tendencies, their album sold well the first couple of weeks and didn't do too much after that.
Not that sales is the be-all end-all of course, but there aren't really any critically acclaimed populist bands right now except maybe Green Day, U2, and RHCP, who are all capable of selling 3-5 million copies of a new album. And good god Nickelback just debuted at #1. NOOOO!!! Then again Creed had 2 or 3 albums sell over 10 million each and who admits to being a fan of theirs these days? They get less critical respect than a new Tara Reid movie.
I don't know, other than DBTT I don't find myself reaching for 2005's albums very often. The new Doves record was good though.

Doves was awesome. Saw them twice this year. DBTT still my #1 though. Also a good new Joel Plaskett album (from Halifax, NS, Canada), if you've ever heard of him.

I really like DBTT this year. I also really like the new Franz Ferdinand album and Gorillaz' Demon Days. I thought X&Y was okay - some great songs, but overall kind of dull like other people said.
One record I really mean to pick up soon is the new Supergrass album - one of my favorite bands and I've heard the new album is great.

I was just going to say, I really like the new Franz Ferdinand album X&Y I loved up until about 4 months ago when I had to start skipping over Speed of Sound because I got sick of it thanks to the fucking radio. That's another problem, i've been a green day fan for almost as long as I've been an oasis fan, and I love American Idiot, but the radio and everyone else made Boulevard and Holiday into songs that everyone was sick of, it was a shame
I also really like Beck's new album Guero, good stuff on their Out Of Exile, the Audioslave album was pretty good and I must agree I really like Demon Days

I certainly love DBTT, the new White Stripes album is very good in my opinion, the songs are just not your typical radio single so they won't sell as much as they did with Elephant but in my opinion the new album is better. Foo's newq album is good but some songs sound the same imo. I haven't heard Franz new album yet so I can't tell, Rolling Stones and Mccartney new albums are both really strong... X&Y is kinda dull and a very predictable album. I like Colplay but I think they just do the same for every album and they are an easy listening band that's bound to appeal almost everyone, that's what I dislike about the new album. It's not very challenging, of course it's a listenable album but it's not memorable at all.. kinda background music for me... I also liked a lot The Coral new album

DBTT is one we'll be listening to for some time. No throwaway tracks. I just hope the next album has more power guitars. The boys pulled off the 60s acoustic thing, now let's get back to some serious rock n' roll.
Coldplay's new record was a huge disappointment. No new ground charted. Reminds me of BHN to be honest. I think they've hit their high point.

Yeah when i think about it, it hasnt been the best year for music for me.
Ive just realised that i havnt purchased a great deal of albums this year. The ones i have bought have consisted of greatest hits and albums released a while back. One album that was released the end of last year which has stayed around my cd player all year is Embrace, out of nothing. If you forget the dull reputation that they have then this album is actually a masterpiece!! Other than that is DBTT which not only is a fuckin great album, but also holds some great memories for me about the summer of 2005!!

yeah, have to agree that nothing touches dbtt from this year. loved the foos album as well. also have to agree with the comments on embrace, still playing it after a year, an absolute classic album. saw them twice on their tour in london and going to manchester to see them in december 6 days after the oasis millenium stadium gig. what a fucking week. ;D ;D ;D

of all the albums i heard i think the two best are DBTT and Howl by BRMC (i don't understand why no one has mentioned it yet) I agree with you there me old lad, them 2 albums are on permanent rotation on my stereo. DBTT is obviously a classic to me i love it, but BRMC nailed a near classic album aswll methinks, Bloody brilliant. Coldplay's X & Y was overproduced and bloated, Although there are some great tracks on there it has the feel that is was soley made to sell well in the US market, Dissapointed to say the least. The White Stripes album was good(not there best mind you) cos it bucked the trend, it's completely out there on its own. The Foos was another huge let down, should've been 1 disc with 6 songs off each cd on it, and chuck the filler bollox on b'sides. Another album i thought was brilliant was the stands, Bloody mega that!. For me though DBTT is king of em all. Cheers doggboy10

Matt mays is my hero...fav album of 2005 without a doubt (gunna see him in november aswell) DBTT pisses on all of the popular releases of 2005 imo. Coldplay is just plain boring to me but im suprised anyone on here has even heard of matt mays.

Here's the 2005 albums I own:
Robert Pjavascript:add("","") Boldlant - Mighty Rearranger:
An overall interesting album in terms of the genre. It's a good album to listen to when I'm alone and I'm really really mellow
Redwalls - De Nova:
I've only listenned to it about 3 times as I only purchased it about 3 weeks ago. It's got some really good sounds. It's surprisingly vintage considering it's well produced. I'd rate it well:
Matthew Good - In A Coma:
It's a compilation, but with a LOT of unreleased material. It's great, but DBTT takes number one for me. I hope to see Oasis (Noel) do this in about 5 years. Oasis - DBTT:
This year's best, in my mind. Hands down
Coldplay - X&Y:
There's some decent stuff on here, but overall it's really quite boring
Hot Hot Heat - Elevator:
The first album released in 2005 that I purchased. It's very good listenning. There's a lot of interesting darker melodies and layered harmony. It's really more pop than its predecessor, but I'm going to stand behind it cos I just LOVED it when I got it in April
Blue Van - Art of Rolling:
A Danish release. Definitely a good album. There's a lot of just real full-out rockers backed up with some good ballads with nice mellotron arrangements
54-40 - Yes To Everything
Really pretty drab..... not a fan of them, really. Dave Genn is on guitar; however, it's definitely no Matthew Good Band...
